Awesome car and great crew. I got to speak to them at the GTA on Aug 5,2012.
i still remember seeing this impreza back in 2010 at the fontana auto club speedway :) and if i do remember correctly i think it set a record back then too... damn
Someone already mentioned, it's a Subaru Impreza "L" with a full built STi Motor and Tranny from GST in Hayward California.
The L was available and light weight. Nothing to do with an RS or the RS motor, or the L motor for that matter (1.8 L NA).

allow me to clear some things up, this car first of all is a 1996 subaru impreza L not an RS. and the car is using a sti drivetrain. built sti motor and 6 speed. the car has been very heavily modified as matt said. all i can say is wait for the texas GTA :)
its a highly capeable tape. im germany we call it "panzerband" => "tanktape" :)
I think there's two options: 1.) (likely) They only used the chassis and body for that model because it's the lightest Impreza to date. They probably swapped in a modern STi (heavily modded from there on) everything.
2.) Uniqueness. A lot of people take the 90s Impreza and swap STi components in. Not many people build up a 2.5 RS motor.
its actually called duct tape. it was originally invented for taping together air ducts. after a few uses they realized it doesnt work on air ducts at all, but is great to fix absolutely anything else

also i am confused about the 1:03 being a new track record, gst has previously gotten a 1:02 at NJMP
it was a daily driver, and Mike decided to build it up. Simple as that.
When I asked mile how much it weighed about a month ago he said it was around stock or a little under.

I just started getting into subaru's and wanted to know something... Isn't the Impreza RS a 2.5L natural aspirated SOHC engine? Why did they use an RS in this video when the STi has a Turbo Charged 2.5L DOHC? I know they obviously did work to this car but why not make it easier on themselves and use the STi's motor instead of the RS's or am I completely off? Any answers would be appreciated :)
Not sure how different the motors are but if they had gotten the sti, the stock turbo, along with most of the car, would have been replaced anyway. The sti's also cost more... so yeah.
