Anycubic Mono-x UV screen replacement (real world)

- The official screen replacement video doesn't match the hardware they are actually sending customers. So here's how to do it with the cables and adapter card they are shipping.
PLUS - a warning about not breaking the fittings.
The front LCD ribbon is a sliding connector. So you'd think they all are, right? NO. The UV ribbons are on hinged retainers. Don't slide them like I did or you'll being hot-gluing it together.
In total the process is part LCD replacement and some of the motherboard replacement video. Links to both below.
Motherboard: • Replace motherboard fo...
UV-LCD (that is wrong): • Replace monochrome LC...
This is a first video for me - so its a bit rough. But there's no lame music at least. Three things that really help are:
Plastic razor blades (They don't scratch)
amzn.to/3qFgheo
Sponge swabs instead of cotton (no fibers)
amzn.to/3nXFgrG (small)
amzn.to/3o0We8r (medium)
amzn.to/3p39J8Z (large)
Capton tape (asst. widths)
amzn.to/2XYFS5N
Yes these are affiliate links that don't cost you any more if you buy from them, but help fund my future video endeavors.
I hope this helps clear up the cable confusion and gives you the confidence to do your screen replacement. Take your time. Don't force anything. And you should be fine.

Thanks for this video! Had Anycubic send a replacement after mine broke 2 weeks into having it and Covid made the process a nightmare....Anywho my first screen replacement broke when I put the black shield piece around the edges and I was frustrated for months. Just tried again with a second replacement and found that the small rubber inserts beside the UV screen were uneven and caused one side of the screen to stick out which caused the damage. Again thanks. Glad to be printing again.
Just purchased the mono-x , I'm a total nube, so while researching, I've discovered your post. Thanks for this, waited for my screen protectors to arrive before unboxing and setting up the unit. Subscribed, thanks again for posting your working tips :)
Weird, how are you printing well with the screen upside down?
I thought I did it wrong so I changed it around cuz of this video but then I looked at the AC video and they DID the front up. YOu turned the front towards the inside??
Thank you for the very helpful post.
After connecting the flat cable so that the front and back of the LCD screen are not mistaken, it is better to start the * .pwmx file that shows the difference between the left and right. I mistakenly generated a mirror writing printout and thought about it for a while.
This video was really helpful. I had to replace my screen on my photon mono X and it looked just like this on the inside. Different from the official anycubic photon mono X lcd replacement video. (Which I think assumes you are starting with the setup you installed). Thanks!
Did the one cable backwards. Sigh. But it’s alive! Thanks. Hopefully I don’t have to watch this again for 2000 hours!
Jesus!!!! Buying screen protector, NOW!!!! That is ridiculously tedious. You've got some patience man, Bravo to you. CS.
Thanks. You didn't see the 2 hours of me repairing the broken clip. Worse than the LCD repair is the 2 month wait for Anycubic to send out the warranty repair screen. Or the US$185 price tag of buying one on AliExpress and hoping it works.
I'll take that OEM LCD that was removed and strip it and replace the polarizing film so I have a spare on the shelf.
@@starbase3d804 Where do you get the polarizing film?
@@lukridus7277 I ordered some off Amazon a year ago. But haven't done the replacement since the new screen arrived. so I don't want to link it blind
Very helpful thank you. Best part was the mega stereo delayed dog bark
LOL - Yeah. Clearly I'm not a professional RUclips video producer. I learned something new about my video software: While it can remove audio from clips, it can't remove audio from a "side-by-side video effect" where two clips are merged.
Anyone else having issues with sound?
What "issues" specifically? Because in the description I say I'm not a pro RUclipsr and mention its not a professional video production.
I followed the instructions but I obtained mirrored printed objects because the screen is here mounted upside down! In fact if you see the official anycubic video for lcd replacement the flat connector is on the other side.
is there any reason why we can't leave the protective film that comes on the screen on the screen?
I can't replace the cable due to faulty disassembly after min 4:05 and I would appreciate it if you could help with the communication. What type of glue did you use?
also remove the wrong tutorial videos. people are getting mad.
I'm not seeing comments about wrong video or people getting mad. Could you clarify?
There's a big card at 4:03 saying "Example of what NOT to do" and the video description has a warning about how to NOT break the connector and how Anycubic made a weird decision to use two different types of retainers. That's the actual point of the video: To keep people from making the same mistake. I'm sorry if you broke yours due to a language barrier that kept you from understanding all the warnings in English.
As for "what glue did I use?"... Like said in the description: I had to hot-glue it in place. So ... I used ... hot glue.
Hi clint. Someone suggested this video on the mono x fb group. But im having an issue. I followed your video and when you placed the new lcd with thr connector upright my prints now are mirrored. Is it possible you installed the lcd screen upside down ?
Where did you find a new adapter chip? Most of the screens are pictured without one sold.
This was an OEM preplacement kit provided by Anycubic under my factory warranty. It came complete.
Don't mind no music wish your say something about what your dpjmg
It’s a Hinge!!! Mind blown.
I know, right? Who engineers this stuff so that half the connectors are slides and half are hinged - and visually there's no difference? At least make all the slides blue and the hinges black or something.
Why would you replace the screen anyway? You had a protecting film on - so what went wrong?
First few days of the MonoX. Not just owning one but first few days of them being on the market. Nobody knew to have a screen protector on them. That's when the original screen got borked.
I just changed out my screen also, but when I raised it up the cover fell off and pulled the ribbon out of its connection, I put it back in, changed everything, and when I pugged it in and turned it on, the screen came on for a second and went back off, and now will not even come on at all. Any suggestions?
Yeah, my front lcd ribbon pulled out of the main board, hoping for the best. Got some resin in the screen so doubt anycubic will replace it. 150 for all the parts vs. 120-130 for just the screen, seems like a good deal!
Looks like you had a screen protector, how did it leak and ruin the screen?
It has a protector *now*. I bought the MonoX on the earlybird special. I was one of those first round of early adopters before we were all warning everyone else. Nobody was making a big deal about protector screens in the first few weeks. Those of us that went through this are the people screaming about protection from the rooftops so others don't experience what we went through.
is the circuitboard already installed in the newer versions of the printer why are you replacing that? - once you do that upgrade you don't have to do it again right you can just attach the display on the top part like the old video is that correct is a one time thing or you have to do this every time you replace an LCD panel?
"The circuit board"... Do you mean the small board between the two ribbon cables?
I have no idea if it is pre-installed on newer machines as I don't own a newer machine. I just have the one shown here that was bought they day they became available in October 2020.
If you had to replace the screen a second time: I don't see any reason you'd have to replace the adapter board-Unless the new screen is of yet ANOTHER design change. No way to predict that.
Did you have a crack at removing the hardened resin on the screen before you ordered the replacement? Had a customer come in a couple of days ago with far more resin on the screen and I was able to remove all of it without damaging the polariser. Paper towel soaked in IPA for 15min followed by hot water dribbled on the same paper towel. Came off with little effort using a sharp plastic scraper after that.
Question, I got resin on my screen and I took it out but I notice you have a second screen or glass underneath is that replaceable because I think when I got rid of my screen I got rid of the glass too because the resin had connected both pieces.
Screen protectors are vital and come up in the FB resin forums daily. I like the purpose-made ones from BulletBrandCompany.etsy.com - I have them on all my MonoX and Saturn printers.
I"m not getting any sound out of your video? It would be great to hear narration along with the video.
That was deliberate. The goal was to have a purely visual how-to that doesn't require narration in 57 different languages or subtitles. Yes the over-graphics are in English, but even if you can't read them, the steps can be followed.
I installed the new screen, and it prints, but the prints are very bad and low quality. Anyone else have this issue? How can I fix it?
So I tried connecting everything, but when I do the detection mode, it doesn't seem to react. It's like its not letting any light through.
Doesn't do *anything*. Including the cooling fans don't start up? Because if the UV array goes on you should see that regardless of the LCD screen? You can see UV through the vents in the back and the cooling fans should come on. If it really is *nothing* happens, reach out to anycubic support. Sounds like either the wrong parts or you hooked it up wrong.
@@starbase3d804 sorry by nothing happens I mean that normally the screen shows the shape that the detection monitor shows but bigger correct? The large rectangle. Now I get now rectangle
@@TheLatestRetroBoardGameShow Does the UV Light array come on? You should be able to see UV light through the vents at the back.
@@starbase3d804 yes sorry the UV lights work no problem, but the screen doesn’t let anything through
@@TheLatestRetroBoardGameShow Try something other than the detection mode. Put a piece of white paper on the screen then print something with no vat. Do you see the pattern?
Just got my replacement screen from Anycubic, would you suggest that I put on screen protector film and then put on the black tape? or should I put the screen protector film over the black tape and then kapton tape it down?
No. You want to seal the LCD first. Then put on a protector. Because later when you do eventually get a leak you can take off the protector without breaking the LCD seal
@@starbase3d804 gotcha, that makes perfect sense. Thank you
@@starbase3d804 Do you mean by sealing in, the tape around the edges?
cant i just use the cables already in? do i realy need to replace them too?
You have to use the cables that are appropriate to your generation of MonoX and the screen you have.
This video is based on the first gen MonoX and the replacement screen sent by Anycubic.
If that doesn't apply to you - follow the instructions that came with your screen, seasoned with observation of your gear and common sense.
Does the perimeter tape and cable come with the new screen
Yes. The two cables are for connecting in the adapter daughter-board. The perimeter (sealing) tape was pretty nice actually: Its a single rectangle on a stiff carrier so you can place it without it being floppy. Then peel away the carrier. It's a pretty creative solution.
Have you found a good screen protector?
Spare FEP that I already stock for the vat anyway. Then seal the edges with capton tape.
@@starbase3d804 Thanks!
I don't understand why people make videos with no sound
What's the cost of the replacement screen?
This is for how to replace with the *warranty replacement screen supplied by Anycubic*. There was no cost as it was warranty, but there are no instructions or warnings either - hence the video to help people not make the same goof I did.
@@starbase3d804 Anycubic should have paid you for this
@@alimilibibi Thanks. Much appreciated. I am no video editor and it shows. And I'm not a professional RUclipsr. Just wanted to help the next guy avoid the mistakes I made.
LCD Is upside down, Its printing mirrored
Yes it was. Very observant. But I'm not taking it all apart and doing the video all over again for it. Hahaha. It was a lot easier to click [x] mirror X in my slicer.
@@clintstlaurent4263 Your effort is appreciated. Anycubic costumer services point me to this video to install the lcd replacement. they could have warned me about that issue. I dont know if they are aware of it. When you use already sliced files, and you have serveral printers, this is a problem. the printer doesnt allow you to mirror the sliced file. Anyways it's easy to fix it, just flip the lcd, that's all I needed to do. Thanks a lot for your video.
