Thanks Calc, i was thinking this wasn't for me because i also don't really use a DAW (just for recording stems if i feel i want to) , but this vid changed my mind on that.
Thanks Calc. Track automation capability is very nice. For the future; a premium MK IV Pro that uses the high quality hardware components (encoders/faders/keybed) found on the Peak/Summit. MkIV 49, MkIV 61. Lastly, move the Mod and Pitch Wheels to the top panel and move the transport controls to the left side above with the mod/pitch wheels. Saves about four inches of space. Double the patterns per track to 16. Include: Buttons assignments for BankMSB/LSB and Program Change per track/channel. The perfect controller :)
@@RadekPilich Hi Radek, perhaps we only need 4 patterns and 8 are to many. Sometimes less is more. Working within a given "scope" may be just what is needed to spark creative inspiration, indeed. Viewing 16 physical pads on the device led to that subjective number. A newer keyboard model might have greater specifications purely for differentiation. Compromise and practicality are valuable design objectives.
@@winddealer1 Good question. Physically I think I'd prefer a joystick style pitch/modulation device (like the MK 2 had), a metal top plate, the 16 step buttons in a single line (and not in two rows). Function wise a probability option on the steps, and a more elaborate way to chain patterns to form songs would be nice. That said, I like the Mk 3, and think it is at a fair price point.
Thanks, that was very helpful. Seems pretty great! I'm curious about how easy the editing of the sequences is if you wanted to move a note off the grid or change the velocity etc. Is there any visual feedback for what the faders are mapped to before you touch them or after? It would be much nicer if you could record or program at least 32 steps pattern instead of having to link them together. Particularly inconvenient when you're having to play in the 16 step - stop - select a new pattern - then play the next 16 steps etc. Seems like a badly done work around at the moment.
Such a shame it doesn’t have a dedicated undo button and no scales and chords function, like in the launchkey, which i don’t understand why they don’t just patch it. N’t
Thanks for your feedback. Had you hoped to see an Undo feature for use when working standalone? An Undo button is provided in InControl Mode when working with Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic and Ableton Live. SLMkIII does benefit from 16 Scale Types and can be used to trigger Custom Chords but workflow and functionality is different to the Launchkey Range.
@@NovationTV I use Reason and use the undo function a lot while recording. Stop, undo, record and repeat. Regarding the scale chords im aware you can make your own chords but i was talking about the ones that come and you just play them. If the sl mk3 had these features i would go novation all the way right now.
Thanks for the SL videos. A few questions: When you record a chord into a step, each and every note in that chord will record it's own individual velocity value as well? When using unquantized recording, the microsteps are 'fully functional' steps? Meaning they can have their own automation values, gate length/velocity values etc.? Can you store midi bank/patch changes for your 8 devices that happens automatically when loading your SL session?
Great stuff -CALC- very helpful. One question, how are you powering your Roland Boutique hardware? I get inference when powered by USB. Would love to know if you get his, and if not, how you got round it :)
I wonder... would I be able to map parameters on a Yamaha S03 to the MKIII so that I can have tactile control over resonance, frequency cutoff, etc... because those are berried so deep in the SO3 digital menus I never really bothered to use anything but the presets on my Yamaha. I know you can do it with Roland Boutiques, just wondering if it can do it with old synths.
Afraid we're not overly familiar with that Yamaha product but those details may be listed in the user guide. If the desired parameters can be addressed using CC, NRPN, Program Change or Song Position, SL MkIII will almost certainly be able to take control of them 👍
I'm having problems calibrating CV pitch on the SL111 to control my Arturia Minibrute. I followed Loopop's tut on hooking up the SL to play the Arturia but he didn't use calibration, etc. set up using 0-=5v Tuning with the Arturia in Paraphonic mode and standard mode but Tuning on the SL does nothing or I don't understand what I have to do. Could anyone help me realise how to do this. Much appreciated.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Using the sequencer and recording modulation into the sequencer, could I potentially trigger fx on and off on other gear? I'd love to be able to record a trigger for the beat repeat of my rc 505, into the sequence of the SL. So that at particular moments in the sequence, the beat repeat will trigger on and off. Is this possible? So record modulation into the sequence which alters the parameters of the fx in the looper? Thanks in advanced
Recording SL MkIII modulation is certainly possible. If the beat repeat feature on/off that you're hoping to control, can be controlled from an external device via MIDI, in theory, you can certainly do this. You may want to take a look at RC-505 documentation. Components allows you to create customised Templates for hardware control - components.novationmusic.com/slmkiii/template-editor/new
PLEASE HELP -- my 49slmk3 will only play one sequence at a time through all midi channels. I can't get it to play anything different on different tracks. It just plays whatever I record on one track on EVERY TRACK they're all set to send and rx all their own channels etc. Not all or omni... this is making this pretty expensive purchase entirely useless. I've been dealing with this since I bought it. It's just ridiculous and I can't find anything in the manual to fix it or anything in global settings.
hi, has any body tried it with studio one ? am quite reluctant cuz i read some reviews that it only integrates will with abelton..appreciate your feedback..thanx
SL MkIII integrates well with Studio One. We've created an article that explains how to get set up - support.novationmusic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360001686859-Getting-Started-with-SL-MkIII-DAW-Setup-Studio-One-4
Three times, during the entire video, you started talking about the sessions, and every time, you've digressed to another topic. I have an SML Mk III, since it came out, and I still need to go and read the instructions, to remind me how exactly to store sessions, copy, empty, color them etc. I confess that I'm a bit TI "challenged", and I simply hate, having the need to read the manual, more than really necessary. Normally I learn by using like I did in "83" when I acquired a Jupiter 8. Now, where did I place the manual since last time.

I'm pretty sure when the Summit was released, they said it has the SL Mk3 keybed, so that's already covered.
@@sonic_trek Nice! One down ... what dream features would you like to see in the Premium Mk iv Pro? Pour another Gin & Tonic. :)
Do you need more than 8 patterns? Wouldn't configurable pattern length for each pattern be a better solution?

Hi there, can one delete clips in Ableton via the sl mk3? Like the Push? Thank you.
Could you please show us how do you manage program changes for individual sessions?

I don’t think that unquantized recording is the solution for bigger patterns...is it too difficult to add pages in the same pattern??
The solution is to get used to the idea of using multiple sessions for each composition rather than manually changing patterns within one session.
