sbc388550 not really. This generation has character and very nice lines. The undesirable years are 84-96. Plain no character awful square shitty plastic interior. Can't give those years away. I laugh when c4 owners asking almost as much if not the same what a comparable c5 go for ! I'd take a high mileage c5 any day over a unusually low mile clean c4. The c3 gen maybe loaded down with smog equipment and low compression but that doesn't matter when your buying a used one nowadays. No e-check needed so who cares ? Trip to summit will wake this gen up real quick !
I was 7 years old when I was walking home from school and saw a brand new 78' Silver Anniversary in the driveway. Figuring it was owned by someone visiting, I drooled all over it for awhile and went in the house. Seeing no company I asked "whos Vette?" I freaked when pops said "Mine". Then Dad's buddy got the pace car 2 weeks later. Both had L-82's but dad ordered an L-T1 Crate from GM. You could still get them from GM in 78'. Then the car was really fun save for CV joints.
There was one in the chev dealer showroom in Philippi I was 18 and went there almost every day and looked at it, don’t think anybody ever bought it. Sure loved to look
I worked at a Corvette dealership in 1978. That was my senior year in high school. When I saw that car for the first time. I swore that I would eventually own one. Apparently there were too many people that took those pace cars and put them away. Because before the financial crisis prior to 08, with only 25 miles or less on the odometer. These cars are selling at the Barrett Jackson auction for not much more than the sticker price back in 1978
When I was in High School,I was working at a now defunct Pontiac,Cadillac and Chevrolet Dealership detailing new cars in the late 80's. The owner of this dealership was rumored to have bought a bunch of cars new like this and tucked away a LOT of them. I wonder if this was one of them. The dealership was Park Place Pontiac,Cadillac and GMC in Lincoln Nebraska.
I started my car up after sitting for 25 yrs, and it ran better than after I changed everything, gas is funny stuff :) I did have a 78 though that didnt run, someone stole the L82 out of it years ago though :)... The shelf life of gasoline depends on the type of gas and the storage conditions and can range from a couple months to a couple years. Using oxidized gasoline is a bad idea, since the gum can clog your fuel filter, create deposits in your fuel system, and generally hurt performance.
Awesome. Though, I'm pretty sure the gas tank should be inspected for corrosion which is common on cars that are stopped for many years. Also, I can't imagine those tires will still be good.
You are genuinely not right. He might have overdone what he had to say but it's far from impossible. 1: If the tires were over-infalted, which a lot of people do (and considering it wasn't in sunshine), they stick around for way too long. 2: There doesn't have to be mice just because it's a barn. 3: If the fuel had stabilizer, considering he KNEW he would leave it, it would fire up. 4: If he emptied the fuel system (not the tank), they don't need to be. 5: Not undrivable with broken b & s.
rubber hardens and cracks when this old. aluminum surfaces corrode and oxidize even when just standing still. so he has a point. so relax. go have a coffee or plant a tree. you need to chill a bit.
Why do these people always leave the dirt on the car to sit there and invite people to rub it and damage the paint.. Just take a garden hose and sprints it with water and let the water carry most of the dirt off.. Idiots.
I'd be interested to know the typical mechanical issues that crop up around a sitting car, apart from dead battery, flattening of the tire surfaces, etc.
not a myth. But depends on conditions. Gas does go unusable but not in 3 months. New gas is pretty bad though. And jets can start getting clogged (especially on bikes with smaller passages) much sooner than the gas turn flat.
Well, this shows how STUPID someone can be. "Oh hey, I'm going to buy a brand new car, shove it in a barn with no cover, and never touch it" people make me sick.... and my dad has this same car too, they are fun cars to drive.
Just a battery? I can't be leave this story. I'm redoing my challenger which I let sit 10 years and I'm having to replace the whole fuel system due to rust inside the tank, lines, and pump. Not to mention cleaning the corrosion off the points in the distributor and new spark plugs. And lots of other things that I do t have time to go into details.
Actually with the car being a barnfind.. from the shows I have watched... it is literally worth more if it is NOT washed but shown EXACTLY as it was found It is only original once. it would look nicer cleaned up sure.. but it is better to present it the way it was discovered,
Tony D Yeah because nothing says that more than a dusty car driving away from a barn on video huh ? Forget the fact it has less than 20 miles on it, original stickers and the interior not still hidden with factory plastic covering looks like the day it came off the assembly line...No ! No ! Without that video...its all just so unbelievable !
for all you farts calling in a shit box.. shake your heads a bit... its still a 78 corvette with 13 miles on it, and probably worth a good penny.... the motor will be fine I'm not sure if this is the same car, but an identical one has been found in Nebraska with 5 Miles on the clock, even better then this one.. watch?v=oZ9i9kBqFlA
Wow, "not" , if you know anything about these cars just about every corvette show in the US has a super low mile 1978 corvette pace car I talking under 1,000 miles. Back in 78' one of the big money magazines ran an article saying this car would be a good investment and all kinds of non car people ran out and bought these new and never drove them. The only thing this car has is dust!
MrMisanthrope1 really ? The Lambrecht 1978 vette identical to this with only 9 less miles sold for 80k. So this is probably worth $79,991 yep bad investment
It's like this the miles does not mean nothing if a car does not have a warranty on it think of it this way you can buy a car with 1 mile on it and drive it and if it tears up on u and it don't have a warranty who's gotta fit the bill to repair it? You do take one with a warranty it tears up do you care? No bc it's got a warranty just take it and get it do fixed for free. Now on the other hand if if it's a 10 year old car or even older with low miles does that mean anything ? No bc time puts wear on a car the older the car is the more likely it's gonna brake down it don't matter if it's got one mile on it if it's gonna be driven it's gonna brake it all boils down to if you wanna fit the bill for the repairs or not. And in the case of this corvette what's the use of having it if your not gonna drive it even if it is an investment purpose. It's point less to not use it. You don't buy a house and say it's an investment I'm not gonna live in it
I genuinely do not get how you can take a personal experience and use it to generalize all cars. This is not how it works. If the car was in a closed off barn with a lot of hay around it, or other herbs, it will suck up the moisture and the car will seat cleanly and nicely inside the barn. It just seems like you have generally no idea what you're talking about, at all.
What happened to not insult people in a discussion? You're pathetic. You took your own situation, your dads 64 Impala and compared it to this, the Corvette. That's a comparison and a generalization since you said "this is not true". Learn how to use grammar and spelling. As a car lover, I believe in what he's saying because he seems fascinated by it. Fuel is possible to be fine after 30 years if it had added stabilizer. You are not done wasting your time here, apparently, as you were wrong.
Unbelievable! It was never broken in so hopefully the seals are OK.
It's a trip back in time!
Nice find!
Dr. Dante
Without a doubt, the most undesireable Vette out there.
sbc388550 not really. This generation has character and very nice lines. The undesirable years are 84-96. Plain no character awful square shitty plastic interior. Can't give those years away. To each his own.
I'm not a person who likes all American classic's but she looks nice despite the blanket of dust!
why i never find something like that
beautiful car!!
Identical car , 1978 corvette in new Philadelphia ohio. Ferris Chevy with 178 original miles
stunning find

I wish my grandpa had left me a Corvette in one of his old barns....dammit.
You started an engine with 33 y old oil in it?
yeah right he said the 33 year old gas was still ok
There was one in the chev dealer showroom in Philippi I was 18 and went there almost every day and looked at it, don’t think anybody ever bought it. Sure loved to look

Wow, looks like it was kept on the Mars for these years :) Amazing...
Is the dust part of the appeal?
When I was in High School,I was working at a now defunct Pontiac,Cadillac and Chevrolet Dealership detailing new cars in the late 80's. The owner of this dealership was rumored to have bought a bunch of cars new like this and tucked away a LOT of them. I wonder if this was one of them. I'm sure some collector wants that dust all over it... probably adds value in that strange market
I started my car up after sitting for 25 yrs, and it ran better than after I changed everything, gas is funny stuff :) I did have a 78 though that didnt run, someone stole the L82 out of it years ago though :)...

the voice reminds me of Ferris Bueller's teacher, anyone..., anyone...?
staestanks. Ben Stein
That is so cool.
I agree a BOSS 302 might not be as aerodynamic but it packs a punch like Mohamed Ali

I wonder how that guys investment turned out after so many years just curious. Or how much money it was bought for and sold for.
I some how doubt it "started right up", after 33 years gas turn into sludge....
@Mastermotor1 Dont forget...it fired right up!
not a myth. But depends on conditions. Gas does go unusable but not in 3 months. New gas is pretty bad though. And jets can start getting clogged (especially on bikes with smaller passages) much sooner than the gas turn flat.

you need to listen to this man, he told that the owner moved from the house, nothing that can do with the car, and leave it at the barn..
I think i saw this car sell at Barrett Jackson Auto Auction last year.
This is like the superman is dead comic book. everyone thought they would be rare so they sold a bunch of them so they are not rare.
it may do if it stands outside and gets exposed to rain, snow and sun.
look up Washing the Barn Find
Just a battery? I can't be leave this story. I'm redoing my challenger which I let sit 10 years and I'm having to replace the whole fuel system due to rust inside the tank, lines, and pump. Not to mention cleaning the corrosion off the points in the distributor and new spark plugs. And lots of other things that I do t have time to go into details.
Has anyone washed it? Why would you put it in a showroom like that! After all those years, the car is still being neglected!
Actually with the car being a barnfind.. from the shows I have watched... it is literally worth more if it is NOT washed but shown EXACTLY as it was found It is only original once. it would look nicer cleaned up sure.. but it is better to present it the way it was discovered,
Yeah, to prove it was a barn find, but the only way to prove that would have been to have recorded it leaving the barn, in MHO.
Tony D Yeah because nothing says that more than a dusty car driving away from a barn on video huh ? Forget the fact it has less than 20 miles on it, original stickers and the interior not still hidden with factory plastic covering looks like the day it came off the assembly line...No ! No ! BackYardTuning This is the same Nebraska car. This narrator is lying.
was your challenger brand new when you left it sitting? the vette on the vid is brand new.
couple idea's, put the Corvette back in the barn and put a bag over your head
He's asking 50 grand.
sweet vette
Buller, Buller, Buller,
Hey Narrator, cut back on the meds, will you?
Was this car bought?
Wow
Oh, you wash it and some1 already drive it 1500 miles :)
What's it worth?
Eric S Lambrecht Chevy auctioned identical vette with only 9 less miles on it for 80k
he sounds a little sad
just found some millions of dollars
Wow, "not" , if you know anything about these cars just about every corvette show in the US has a super low mile 1978 corvette pace car I talking under 1,000 miles. Why would they not move it so we can see the drivers side?
and whoever narrated this should try to not be so monotone.
Ever thought about washing the damn thing?
still not worth a lot, terrible investment
MrMisanthrope1 really ? The Lambrecht 1978 vette identical to this with only 9 less miles sold for 80k. So this is probably worth $79,991 yep bad investment

huh?
MrMisanthrope1 Richie can't read or write so well, but he is an awesome investment adviser !
No it doesn't thats a myth. Every year I start up my car and bike with 6-8month old fuel no problems.
Wwwaaaaaooowwww
Why the fuck does a '78 have better seat than my '82 Vette? Mine had cloth seats and a ugly red color at that.
running on 33 year old gas? REALLY???
i would of expected rot rust, moss etc iif you want your carr looking like new bury it in straw or hay.
what a joke anything for attention why don't they show the speedometer? it's the first thing i would doo. good car commercials!
Wash it!
thats what a toilet is called
wash the poor thing!!!
WTF ???
ARE YOU PEOPLE TOO LAZY TO USE A CAR WASH?????
i just want to wash it.
bfd
I'm not buying this sht. Why are the front tire white walls rubbed off like its been rubbing on the side of curbs

Forza horizon in real life....
If I got a 1978 I would not drive it either ... Not the most desired vette out their
