As usual very well explained Lachlan. That said, I get a lot of mileage from the bottom out of gripping the belt in the middle of the back and placing my forearm along the spine applying pressure with the elbow. I am often able to come out and take either the back or top side control with this, with only much bigger opponents tending to get the better of me. It's an escape/counter I saw in a video from Jeremy Aren ( Great Grappling ) and people seem not to realize they were out maneuvered and just think I got lucky ( benefit of being a blue belt ). I need to practice this though because I do tend to sit into this position and get stuck or swept.

    Notes
3:57 scissor your thighs to pinch trap leg
4:26 need my toes as a “base”
6:07 bottom leg thigh is pinching low close to his buttocks- and toes active basing
7:05 walk hips further and further up
8:10 they won’t let go- turn their spine
8:36 again, emphasizing importance of walking hips very high
8:46 turn your attacking knee towards the roof to free trapped knee

윗 다리 땅기고 아랫다리 민다는 거 유용할 거 같네요.
pulling upside leg and pushing downside leg look useful when passing situation.

Just in case someone is still monitoring these comments- is there a switch base pass available on Submeta? I had a look but couldn't find it in the half guard passing course

Need a counter to this pass. This happens a lot and can’t find any relevant material besides from
    Caio Terra.

make sure that your back is not flat on the ground. According to Lachlan, and from drills that we've been doing after watching his videos, the fact that the hips and the upper torso are aligned in the same direction makes a half guard stronger.

You want to get your post and frame. From here you know your opponent has to go for the cross face. Since this is anticipated you’ll be ready to use your posting arm/hand to redirect your opponents cross face arm to the other side of your body. You frame off that and shrimp out to recover guard.

      1. Prevention.:
Most people just focus in the top leg knee shield, but you can also use the bottom leg knee shield. Place your bottom Knee in front of his far side leg to prevent his hip switch.
      2. Countering the switch base:
Go for the octopus half guard as soon as He does the Hip switch. From there its easy to sweep or take the back. Firas Zahabi and Brandon Quick have very good videos about the octopus
