    Class act Martina Hingis. She knows how to win when she was playing! Miss her strategic style of playing.

    Great Video! Great match and to see the speed of Venus and the Racket control of Hingis is still very special. 1997-2003 was really an amazing time in women's tennis.

      wackybrinyc29 definitely. About the only hall of famers who weren't playing singles then were Nav, Evert, Goolagong, BJK and Court!

      +wackybrinyc29 i think 1997- 2008 was the golden era until henin quit and WTA tour was in a mess

      +olaraay Probably not much because of Henin. Henin retired in 2008 but her power had been diminishing terribly then. 2008 saw Venus and Serena reviving their great form after their rough 2004-06; They played great that year. Jankovic and Ivanovic were no greats relatively but admittedly they were pretty on fire that year. Safina, Dementieva and Zvonareva were enjoying big wins as well. Looking back, 2008 was very entertaining with huge battles. From late-2009 though, it started to change. Venus' form dropped a big level, the Serbians were suffering, the Russians failed to satisfy, and Serena despite her titles was getting inconsistent (till 2012). After all I would say the recent golden era was 1997-2009. If there shall be a platinum era it would be 1998-2003.

    hingis is mentally and technically tougher and very smart in placing balls at angles she has a great backhand. her weakness is her serve wheras a strong serve is the strong point of venus with her good defense and power. Without this strong service or if hingis' serve were strong the Swiss player would win perhaps 6-3 6-4

    Great to see the highlights but what a dreadful colour for a tennis court, so hard to see the ball properly.

    The most inconsistent weapon in Venus game was her willing to win.

    1999 Venus not good enough to prevail over that Hingis when it mattered. She doesn't attack the Hingis serve enough and her forehand too much of a liability, things were going to change soon though

      Venus would always have trouble against Hingis, hingis leads 11-10 in h2h, and even won their last meeting when past prime Hingis came back.

    • @JMLCK78
      @JMLCK78 6 лет назад +3

      Like in the 2001 Australian Open SF? Peak Venus barely got past a past-her-peak Hingis in 2000. Hingis was simply better.

      Hingis still leads the H2H at 14 Hingis 13 Venus - and things did change for the worse of the tennis World: Hingis got injured and the onslaught of boring power bashing took over for a decade and more... only in 2018 am I seeing players who finally play and rely more on tactics to win then power (ie Osaka, Konta, Kasatkina, etc).

      @@dinh5532 their last two meetings were tied at 1-1 in 2006 and both encounters were on clay, a surface that favours Hingis. Prior to Hingis' return Venus clearly had the momentum winning five of the last seven encounters.

      @@ManSizeSextet Again, Vee never had it easy against Hingis. And I wouldn't say clay favored Hingis but Hingis still won their last meeting.
