Ross, check out Gary Pilarchik’s RUclips channel if you don’t follow him already. This year, he developed a hydrogen peroxide spray - just water and hydrogen peroxide - and it KILLS blight and leaf spot on tomatoes, peppers, etc. with regular use. I confirmed it works, and it can extend the growing season for literally months for vegetable gardens. I know fig rust isn’t blight or leaf spot that attacks tomatoes, but they’re all fungi. Since you’re going to lose your leaves soon anyway, you can sacrifice that plant and try his spray out. Maybe it will kill the rust. Check it out. If it works, it could save you in a bad year, and it is a miracle for vegetable gardening. Trust me on that one - it is a blessing for tomatoes.
If your typical rust infestation isn’t enough to affect your yield, then yes, I would agree. But if rust typically hurts your production, I would experiment that use that fig as a sacrificial lamb.
I was just thinking about rust today. In Texas all the lower leaves seem to get it. I just have to deal with it. I don’t see any stunted growth from it so I don’t worry anymore.
By the way, I work in a huge gardening centre in The Netherlands and we are no where near your level of knowledge, my boss is always amazed with the things I tell him about ammendmands like Rice hull you mentioned. We have much to keep up with! Sharing your channel all the way over here! Keep it up friend
ross im in homestead fl and i get it all the time but there are a few varieties that get them more than other. i think its the humidity but it doesn't hurt the fruit production. i dont spray. i guess in my zone its inevitable. we had a really wet summer. o well.
Rust does not need rain, I work in hoop houses with raspberries and get they get rust with no rain. What you see is just the fruiting structure. The fungus is more than you can see.
i bought a fig tree from the internets. and it developed rust on the leaves it came with. so i cut them off and the new leaves came out rust free. and its doing a lot better now.
I thought this was video about fig rust!? I have rust on my young fig trees in NW FL right now, May 2. It is numerous small round rust colored spots. My picture would not paste to show it!
i have a popular copper spray (Bonide) that I was using for anthracnose on my mango... they don't list fig trees on their approved list of plants/trees that respond to copper so don't even bother with it. I read that neem oil can help treat it. I took off all the worst leaves and sprayed with neem, main thing is the cold damp weather is done with. Sun is coming to socal and here to stay.
Hi Ross, I would like to know why my fig plant does not bear any fruits after planting for more than 5 years in a 5 gallon container. Please share your advice. Hope to see your reply soon. Thanks.
Seranade makes wonders. It has completely transformed my trees & vegetables to a whole new level. I mix it with copper powder (2 tbs/ gal each) and it works wonders... (I'm by no means affiliated with them) I just can't seem to find a solution for the rot in grapevines.
Hello from Long Island NY 👋. Glad i found your channel. I just subscribed. I just received my first two fig trees. They came with a note saying those colorings and spotting is normal when going in the dormant stage. You'll see the note on my last video and the coloring on my leaf that looks like your rust . Your advise or opinion on my new plants would be greatly appreciated. I'm about to put them in the shed for the winter. Mistake???
It's a natural thing that for us in the northeast can do little about other than the tips I mentioned in this video. Dispose of diseased leaves when they fall off.
Just found your video, thanks for sharing. I live in South Florida and I have my fig in the ground and didn't do well this year, the fruits keep falling off. It looked healthy until now the leaves don't look so green, is it because it's getting close to fall season? Thanks again for sharing.
I live in Orlando Florida and our Aisha fig tree had leaf rust since the first year we planted it. It seems to be caused by the summer humidity and daily rain. The rust infects all the leaves and caused the tree to have very few figs and not to grow too much. I’ve tried many things. Copper spray and Neem oil spray delayed the start of the rust this year but by the time we hit June it is everywhere. I am about to give up. Maybe Fl is not a good place to grow figs.
In Texas here. Was given a fig tree to save, what is your soil base? I used top soil and garden mix and the tree is not happy. What can I do to help? Also being in texas, would it better to grow inside my green house or fully outside? Thank you for your vids and time.
@@MinhTran-ol9wg I've noticed a big difference this year by trying a few new things... Any leaves with damage.. bugs.. fungus.. whatever.. I snip them off and I've stopped watering everything from the top. I also spray a homemade soap/ oil/ plus a table spoon of baking soda per gallon. At the end of summer here with heat/ humidity... We're gonna get something but winter will take care of it. 😀
Greetings from very humid South Florida ..... in early summer and now starting in "cooler" Fall, I spray the leaves of my Evergreen Texas Fig and Brown Turkey with neem oil. This has helped reduce leaf rust a bit. Last year (pre neem oil spraying) by end of summer rains ALL my 3 year old fig tree's leaves had been killed by rust. I've also gotten better at getting rid of any leaves that I see early signs of rust. Last 'non-pro' tip....neem oil in hour very hot climate is tricky as I learned I have to be careful not to spray during the hottest part of the day /season, as the oil/sun can also burn the leaves. Just my two bits on the topic.
a fig I just purchased has very dry leaves with some surface cracking. I assumed it was from under watering and a couple of weeks later the cracking seems much better however the leaves still seem a bit dry and threaten to crack when grabbed. Is there something that I can do to help the leaves be more supple?
thank you for this video I want to aske you about mosaic virus if the fig tree was infected by it you think it will die or what do you think will happen about tree and fruit . sorry to my bad language
Hi there Ross. It is July now, I was curious to why my fig tree leaves are yellowing and drying up and filling off. Wondering if you might know what I’m doing wrong? Thank you Ross.
I'm new to gardening and just an hour ago discovered I have rust on one of my blueberry bushes. I love synchronicity. Thank you for posting this just when I needed to hear about remedies for rust. I have diatamaceous earth. Should I just sprinkle it around the base of my blueberry bush?
Thank you so much for all the knowledge you share! I got a question non related to this video haha. Would a Figo Preto semi buried in ground (in pot) survive in 7b? Thanks anyways! Have a great day.
Thanks for sharing Ross. Do the rice hulls attract rodents or insects? I want to use them but only have 5 container plants and will have to store the hulls, but I dont want to attract any other "guests" lol
So I got my fig at a very well known indoor greenhouse and I also keep it inside but on the underneath of a couple of the leaves I’ve got some vein like brown like stuff????
Keiko Bushnell It’s not a virus it’s basically edema I your plant. From too much water. So you aren’t that lucky ... more like you took good care of ur plants! 🤓

I actually saw it. I'd rather not spray anything unless I have to. Just another thing to do, you know?

but then again i think that variety of fig doesnt like full california sun. i moved it to a place that gets shade mid day and its doing better.
They love CA sun. Just help them get established.
its doing better now. giving it fish fertilizer.

So what do I do…it’s October 28….do I apply a fungicide now? And if so, what brand is good? ty

You got it.
I have brown lines along the leaf midrib and vein. What are those?

I live in Southwest,TN and didn’t get it this year. It was a rainy spring but dry summer. I picked up some trees from the MS Gulfcoast

15 minutes outside Philly. No rust over here. Just lots of dope fiends.
Hahaha
dope fiends everywhere :)
Hi Ross. Big fan and first time fig grower. Just picked up an 8ft giant at a local nursery in northern NJ and she looks a bit sick. Can you help?
Sent you some videos on messenger
Yes, you're special. Come to Florida and I'll show you rust!
Amen.. we're not short on rust here in Florida!
I am in Florida also and we do get a lot of rust on leaves , I do not know maybe it's the florida heat is the cause

Feed it. FMV will almost completely go away.
Hi, you mentioned a “Fig Community” you posted to. Can you share this information as I would love to join.
I have a question I don’t know what happened to my fig tree it’s leaves and figs are turning purple what do I do
I have rust badly right now and I believe it's due to watering on top.
Don't water the leaves. Add silica.

Hi there Ross. It is July now, I was curious to why my fig tree leaves are yellowing and drying up and filling off. Wondering if you might know what I’m doing wrong? Thank you Ross.
Too much or not enough water. Also a sharp change in humidity/temps can do it.
Thank you Ross..
@@RossRaddi What can I do to help the fig tree. Here in Oklahoma it rained for a whole week, and my leaves have started falling off.
My fig trees have it severely. I live in East Texas
I have rust bad in Central NJ. Ross: Where do you buy your DE and rice hulls from? I can't find rice hulls anywhere. Thanks
Amleo.com

Should work in the same way, but who knows how many applications you'll need to apply.
i knew you'd have a video on this :) I have rust on mine :(
pls what is mean FMV feeding
Ross, please let us know where you purchase the rice husk?
Amleo.com
Should it be carbonated rice hull??
And how much of diatomaceous earth should be applied?
Did you just cost the top of the soil with DE? One application or multiple?
Just one in the spring.
i apply derusting liquid from hardware with very small ratio mix with warm water
Thank you so much for all the knowledge you share! I got a question non related to this video haha. Would a Figo Preto semi buried in ground (in pot) survive in 7b? Thanks anyways! Have a great day.
Not semi buried. NEed to bury the roots fully or cover them heavily with soil/mulch.
good video

They do not!

My fig tree has different leaves than yours tree
It has round and broad leaves!
