I think their both good but I respect the artists original intent thus i think the original score is better you can put a bunch of different music over this and it would be good which reflects the quality of the animation
I adore Boards of Canada but if you say that using their music as the "soundtrack" to this animation hits the mark better I can only think you're missing the intentionally crafted beats/timings in the actual soundtrack. Which heighten the meaning of the "cuts" and the story.
It has a different vibe with Boards Of Canada's soundtrack, and it's amazing, but I still think this one is best suited for the animation.
