Im buzzing with it to be honest, fantastic money for a relatively unproven player, sick of his agent every transfer window piping up, he has bad advisors and attitude issues, on the same token fantastic player and good memories wish him the best

Don’t care how talented you are if you’re offered a big wage to play in Saudi, you take it. It’s not like he’s a life long villa fan.

What if you’re already on a bit wage and could be offered another big wage with another top team in a top league? I mean to each their own but life it’s just about money personally I’d also want to succeed in my career on a sporting level. If he was late in his career then I’d get it, but when you’re 21 and already a millionaire I wouldn’t go there yet

@ if your on a big wage like £75k per week for Duran and you get offered around £320K a week to do the very same job. It’s a no brainer, sure money is not the most important thing, but neither is a career. Sure he can set himself and his family up for generations with this deal, and he’s young enough to do this for a few years and still come back to Europe and play at the very top.

I think a lot of fans forget that a large percentage of footballers come from absolutely nothing. And just like any other person in any other industry, they are trying to maximize their profit earnings. Particularly footballers because their careers are so short. All this talk about "legacy" comes from journalists who write puff pieces and history books for a living. These footballers are ultimately trying to make as much money as possible, put food on the table for their families, and have enough money after their careers end so they don’t have to be pundits like these guys in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. Duran will be making 5-10 times per week tax free. It’s not that difficult to figure out.

Of course Villa aren't going to sell both of their two strikers at the club in the January window.
And you conclude it by saying that Ollie Watkins is an Arsenal fan. Wow. That adds so much credibility to the potential move.

I imagine one of the happiest people in all this is Durans agent ! I have no idea whether Duran will enjoy life in Saudi but this sort of money is simply too much to turn away from. Aston Villa were very shrewd in buying him, creating both an opportunity and a shop window at the same time. It's called business.

  • @Zulisian

He's clearly not been consistent enough, or not done enough of the "right stuff" for Unai, he's a wild card with a confusing attitude, and as such, cashing in on him seems to be our best bet, it's £50m+ profit from a sale point of view and removes the issue of Watkins having to look over his shoulder or look elsewhere for 90 minute games.
I would also go as far to say, as Unai wanted to run Duran and Watkins together, and somehow it wasn't working, the question then goes along the lines of, is this Duran's issue of the making or not? Watkins seems okay playing in a team and alongside people, he does this for England, albeit isn't proven, but I can believe the mantra that Duran is the issue.
If he wants to go, let him go and get someone that wants to believe in the project of building up a legacy and being apart of that team, Duran is not loyal to anyone and that's fine, good luck to him!

His agent (who's obviously after a healthy pay cheque) and his friends and family should be ashamed they haven't advised him properly.
Going to play in an awful league in front of pitiful fan base of a few thousand every week, with a bunch of has-beens wanting a retirement package, just so he can add a few zeros to his bank balance
