What I don't understand is how you can even think of adopting a pet when you know you're terminally ill. In my country the shelters won't even let you adopt a pet solo if you're elderly or clearly sick.

I noticed how most of the Nature Expert’s line implies he’s not just a Lemony Snicket-esch narrator but instead just a voice in Dawn’s head
I agree. When Dawn was catching the butterfly it felt to me like she was self criticising herself. lol
Maybe the reason the dog’s called “Snickers” is perhaps why he’s chasing Dawn after she eats his food, he’s not him when he’s hungry
