Montserrat was one of Freddie's biggest idols. They became close friends who adored each other, right up until his death.
Once every century? Not even that often. To have lived on this planet at the same time as Freddie Mercury and David Bowie fills me with pride!

@@Ali.Shlaibeq she gave a concert but was kind of sick :-( after 10 mins there was a aprupt break. 20 mins later she went on stage again and ... you could see, that she was not in mood. three songs later the show was over. it was too much for her :-( as my stepdad was a kind of janitor / housekeeper or whatever the word is, they gave me the "golden book" to let her sign. so i went upstairs in the townhall and went in her room. she signed the book and a poster for me ... i've met a lot of stars, but this three minutes with her were just incredible!!! as i said - a met a lot of stars, but she was outstanding!!! ♥

It was also the time when Freddie knew about his illness ... and he told Monserrat about it. Monserrat said, later in an interview:
"While he was singing I noticed that his eyes were shiny with tears. I give him my hand. He clasped it and kissed it. It was clear he was suddenly aware of his own fate. They were tears of farewell. It was his goodbye , at least to the stage ". Montserrat Caballé

You know someone recently described Freddie perfectly, for those that grew up on his songs, and even those that are just now starting down his path. I've always said he had a divine presence, you just were in awe watching him, and then someone said, "After Freddie's death, he left us craving his love and his music" And it was the word "love" that popped out for me, they hit the nail on the head, he radiated love through his songs, no matter what genre he was singing, he just oozed love out to his fans. I think even if Freddie didn't get paid, he would still sing for an audience with the same amount of love and passion, that I think (along with his incredible voice) made him stand out from the others and to this day, still does. We crave Freddie....lol

well said Kellee...great observation. The talent and the passion he infused into every song he made..leaves a great void in us musically today. Because in the world of fast canned sound, and mediocre flash in the pan stardom, this type of True talent and uniqueness simply doesn't exist . I'm so touched by your reaction, L. Freddie & Montserrat (or Montsy, as he called her) adored each other & were in awe of each other's talent. She was amazed how he, being a natural baritone, could glide effortlessly between that and his tenor voice..and also his composing ability. They quickly became close & he even confided in her about his illness. She attended the unveiling of his statue in Montreaux, Switzerland with his family, and was moved to tears. I'm posting this 3 min. video of the event for anyone who'd like to see it. It also shows Brian explaining why the statue is there. I think besides being a useful prop, Freddie’s mic stand gave him something to do with his hands. Without it his arms are flying all over the place- which is adorable and endearing anyway, but I think he was aware of it. Even in the “making of” video of the “These are the Days of Our Lives” video, Freddie criticized his performance by saying “I did too many movements.” He tends to, without that mic stand to occupy his hands. She was one of Freddie's heroes. The line 'the moment that you walked into the room, you took my breath away' actually happened and Freddie wrote that line just for her because Freddie was starstruck. Montserrat was unsure about Barcelona until Freddie sent her a tape of his vocal range. This was no ordinary duet. Freddie loved her and was totally starstruck when she agreed to do it. He could not believe he got to sing with her. You have to be good to starstuck Freddie Mercury. Legend , gone but NEVER forgotten.

That is the MAGIC of Freddie Mercury and Queen. He thought she had one of the most beautiful voices in the world. Every member had their own solo thing from time to time but, Queen was more than the sum of their parts. Together they were their own genre. Amazing..

You are not alone, I remember hearing this for the first time 😲 Freddie saw her sing, at Covent Garden I think, and asked if he could meet her, they became really good friends, a kind of mutual adoration, I think that comes over in this too . Fantastic reaction, sometimes words are not enough or indeed needed 💖💖

As the information about the lyrics didn't seem to be there, I'll tell you: this song describes the first time Freddie met Montserrat. They adored each other :)
    Great reaction, Lamar, thank you!!

Love hearing you acknowledge Freddie Mercury, the Legend. Barcelona by Freddie and 'Montsy' is one of my most highly favoured musical rendition. Another one is them singing 'Guide Me Home'. I am a romantic and their singing; entire performance strikes me as a loving experience for the two of them.

YOU DID IT.....😚😚😚 thank you so much. Couple of things...Freddie wrote this for the Barcelona olympics...he sang her parts to her before she agreed...he died before the olympics so it wasnt used. He was very sick at this point but said it was something he was really proud of .they became very close friends. I remember how she so cried at the unveiling of his statue. Glad you enjoyed it.😊😊😊

He wrote this song for her before even got to meet her. He fell in love with her when he was at an Opera with Peter Freestone, his Personal Assistant. He had never heard of her before and then she agreed to meet him and this eventuated. 💕

Freddie not only sang great but he wrote every song for the Barcelona album, including Monserrat’s part. When he sent her the songs, he sang both his and her parts and it was amazing. Freddie is a true LEGEND.

Freddie Mercury goes from 92.2Hz. And Montserrat Caballé has a 5 octave range. This entire album is FANTASTIC. I love La Japonaise also. Listen to the entire album. I’ve been playing this album over and over. I love it, I’m 73 years old and this tops everything I’ve heard. Take care,
