Been years since I seen this and even though it was just the part one, it was still very enjoyable. The Massada story was very familiar to many of us growing up in our Judea Christian world. As an adult, I recall renting this film and putting it on for my young sons in order to level them up further on a better understanding of our distant past.

The Jews we're not that united or peaceful and had many different groups that would fight amongst each other. Plus, The Romans would usually get along with those they invaded and would let them pray to & honor whatever gods they wished. They were builders not just warriors. Building roads, bridges, baths, toilets, water irrigation, etc . Taxes to help pay for the infrastructure improvements besides going to rulers.

Why should it be heart wrenching when it stands for such endurance and strength that has yet to disappear especially since there is the State of Israel. The Romans did not rid the earth of the spirit that created Israel. Others have yet to rid the earth of the spirit of endurance.

Também nunca vi um filme que demonstrou tamanha riqueza tinha os utensílios para propiciação de cordeiros e pombos. Utensílios em detalhes perfeitos com flores de amendoeira e pedras preciosas e ouro e prata. Muitos povos levaram esses utensílios quando eram levados cativos. E esses povos foram exterminados por suas maldades um assobio se ouve em suas antigas moradas sem ninguém saber quem foram.
What happened to the ending, it was cut off before the movie finished
Very well written and acted. I was expecting something not quite as good. Obviously O'Toole saw and liked the script before he accepted it. Good supporting cast. Well worth a look. This copy is a little bit tatty but the writing and acting survives it.

The book was written in Aramaic, and presented it to the emperor Vespasian between 75 and 79.
Book 7 of the Jewish War describes the fate of the Jewish people and the fall of Masada, confirmed by 20 th century archaeology.

@@Cheeseatingjunlista Correct. Josephus (Titus Flavius Josephus) was at best a turn coat saving his own skin, documenting what he was told and how he was told. All of what he wrote is suspect. Add in Hollywood and you get a story like this, based on part truth and a lot of sensationalism.
There are real scholars that believe that the Zealots of Masada were (for a lack of a better term) raptured. Because the remains of only 6 people were ever discovered at the site.

@@caribecastaway6447 I have the impression that you have not read Josephus account. I have. "real scholars", who? To me, an experienced historian, it reads as remarkable true and surprisingly honest. Furthermore, recent archaeological evidence seems to confirm his account.

O filme, comparado ao livro de Josefo (sacerdote e guerreiro, um dos líderes da rebelião contra Roma e testemunha ocular dos fatos), é monótono, fraco e medíocre. O livro, fruto do envolvimento de Josefo com a queda de Jerusalém, nos mostra como essa guerra foi sangrenta, crua, terrível e catastrófica. O filme é pálido, chato ingênuo comparado a narrativa ágil, empolgante e aterradora de Josefo.
Exato. Concordo. Nada justifica o filme ser tão longo e cansativo e o livro de Josefo esgotar o assunto em apenas 3 capítulos breve. O mais relevante no episódio é o discurso de Eleasar o líder. Outro dado interesse é que as 960 pessoas que foram para lá eram do partido dos sicários, um grupo sanguinário e marginal, e não judeus "piedosos" como as versões fazem parecer
