Currently listening to this while shoveling snow. You know what's sad. First played this in 93. Never beat the game. Played it on emulators sometime between 98-04. Never beat the game. So here I am Jan 2017 @ 30 years old. When I'm done shoveling I will go and beat this game 👍
You could actually download it AUTHENTIC in the app stores right now for free! There's actually a promo right now where the in-purchase with no-ads only cost a dollar this January.
Did anyone else know about a crazy teleport trick to the start of World 3-1? I know there is a way to go to the final boss from the 2nd level, but this trick involved getting no hits, speed bonuses, no prizes, detour to get the Cyclone helmet, then grab the 10,000 point blocks in the 1st skull level under 30 seconds in the top right hidden section. Also, if you hold pause right as you lose your last life (perfect timing) you can Give Up at the prompt and go into the negatives ;) I obsessed in my youth
Is that the end of world 1 - 2. You climb up onto the block above the flag and crawl forward. Immediately teleports you to the last boss. This trick is intact in the mega drive collection for the Xbox one. And now I see, I should’ve read the rest of your comment. I did not know about that!
This is the game that my mom read the cover for us kids back in '95, at the rental store. When she said "Kid Chameleon, a hundred levels" we were like "haha no way, we don't want to play a game that has 100 levels" because we thought it impossible to get through that many levels! :D
I got real exited that someone was playing Kid Chameleon on twitch and as soon as they got to Hills of the Warrior they beat it on one go and that was when I knew I was watching some bullshit. KC is one of my favourite games ever, and even I took a few playthroughs to remember all the traps.
Fabulous. My only complaint is that when I press pause, the sound doesn't echo. (Also, there's a noticeable lack of "DIE!", particularly in the Cave theme) ;)
I can assure you all play throughs of this game are never the same different paths and portals and I'm trying to find them all knowing it will take me years
I am 24 and this was one of my favorite games for the Genesis, despite being a little before my time! If anyone has played the game “Skul” for PS4, that feels like a spiritual successor in terms of gameplay. KC is such a classic.
I LOVE this sountrack and Kid Chameleon is one of my favorite and most played games EVER! Would be better if they changed the PSG Snare with PCM Snare..
Time to hear this soundtrack for reals. This was definitely one of the more fun platformers out there, even though I had no chance of actually completing it.
First time I played it on my Mega Drive the WALL level (the chase) got me nervous later on I stuck on that crystal crags I cant recall the name of the level God's revenge or smth not sure, it was before the final boss !!
Vaped weed from a volcano in like 2012 w the composer. At the time he told me he “used to make computer music”. Maybe 8 years later I made the connection reading the KC Wikipedia. He was the SEGA US Head of Music! Now he owns several gaming cafes, iirc. Plays a mean bazooki
I remember borrowing this game to a friend circa 1992 and having tons of fun with it. The wide range of transformations and crazy level design was something else! Also, it's one of those Mega Drive soundtracks that scream "North American style" which is awesome! That cultural variety and sound distinctiveness within the Mega Drive library are further reasons why this system is so important and fascinating to dig. And the GEMS sound driver was the source to many other great soundtracks, most of them sounding very American too (very "Genesis-esque" one could say) as do Global Gladiators, X-Men 1 and 2, Demolition Man or Comix Zone!
Just managed to beat the game in a 2.5 hr sitting, 16 years after my first time playing. Will always be one my favorite Genesis titles, and the music plays a big part in that. Thanks for the high quality upload 👍
It's quite a feat! I got the game when I turned 9 and was excited to try to beat every level...and never actually managed it. I got as far as "Beneath the Twisted Hills" and gave up without realizing how close I actually got.
@@Mike-os3pt The antagonist of this game. The local arcade gets a new VR game called Wild Side that everyone wants to play. But when the machine becomes self-aware it begins to disappear children that play it, digitising them when they lose to trap them in the game forever. That's when Kid Chameleon comes in to beat the Wild Side at its own game and free the local kids.
This is definitely one of the best games on the console. LOVED it as a kid, finally beat it as an adult by using save states, and I think now that I'm getting older I might be ready to do it without cheating. What a great title.
Barbie Chêtif The people that produced this game went on to make Sonic 2 with Sonic Team. They also made Comix Zone, and The Ooze. All of these soundtracks are on my channel. Thanks :)
its because of the GEMS sound drive, it can use the CPU to pull some tricks (like different set of instruments depending of what its on screen or what character you are playing). Probably the slow down is what affects the music.
thanks for the replies, that's really interesting. I don't remember ever noticing the slowdown while I was playing the game but maybe i was just oblivious
Of all the games not to have a save feature...This game rules and I loved the different paths you could take. Even if you wanted to cheat and warp to the final boss on the second level.

@@ranvirthelopunny6080 it's cancelled. Very bad welcome from players of kc, the elitists one who still play and mod it. Big demotivation with people acting like arrogant "know and seen everything" guys. No time to spend for that
It took me 12 hours of non-stop playing to beat this game and Plethora the final boss. It was easier to beat him being a fly. Hard game! Loved it so much ❤
Trippy as can be experience when it released. Like toejam and earl music vibe but in some back to the futiure kid-tim burton kinda way. Ppl who beat this are skilled ninjas. Change my mind.
Currently listening to this while doing fall cleanups! Goes hand in hand! I especially love the ice and swamp themes. City is good too. What an amazing game and intriguing soundtrack!
Mythic game as they struggle to produce since then! They hadn't made another right? Big records!!! My favorite levels in terms of ambiance : sky, islands, japanese countryside. The worst ones : killing walls, pyramids, swamp! So many combinations of routes to progress through the game!
Are you talking about a synth solo section or something like that, which is heard at certain levels of the fantasy theme? I thought I was crazy but I also remember hearing a variation like that

+Daxel101 That's probably what Sega were going for :P
Marty + Terminator
This game was from the 90s... ya know, the era of edginess and EXXXTREEEEEME....ness.
12:53 was always my favorite...I can picture the purple tornado immediately
Good god I've forgotten just how hard the Opening Theme / Crystal Crags Theme SLAPS
"Ouch! Bummer!'
(Loses a life)
*_"DIE!"_*
Fabulous. My only complaint is that when I press pause, the sound doesn't echo.

The Mountain song is often playing in my head
Me too...30 years after first playing it!
The music from this game was so interesting, and unlike other video game music at the time. Very interesting melodies, percussion, sound effects
Therefore the Pizza tower.

@konakonaa Not Toejam and Earl 1, but yeah. It's the same driver.
yeah the OST is rad. But the game is so hard.
