Well we can pretty much figure out why it took so long. Basically: - First attempt by Namco didn't progress well and Nintendo pulled the plug, handing it back to Retro Studio. That's at least 2 years lost. - Retro Studio haven't yet made a brand new game for Switch and needed experienced developers and programmers. - They were also porting Donkey Kong Return Tropical Freeze as well as handling Metroid Prime Remastered (and possibly Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered, too???) - Over course of development, they were also likely relearning how to handle as well as updating the Metroid Prime series' engine, the RUDE Engine. Even back in 2002, that engine was an ABSOLUTE beast and still is to this day, both in its old and new versions. - Don't forget that they also had to plan out story treatment and scenario and level design for the game to play and feel right. That also can take time Put all of them together, you can see why it took a while for Metroid Prime 4 Beyond to be announced again, though I am glad it did at this stage of development. And you can pretty much bet that it will be for cross-gen release, the game looks way too good to not be (even though it likely running on Switch 1, which is hella impressive).
Well you have some good points there, to basically summarize why Metroid Prime 4 took way too long in development. And yes, I believe that Prime 4 will be cross gen which will come out on both the Switch 1 and Switch 2
I don’t really accept that Metroid Prime 4 has been in ‘development hell’. It didn’t go well, Nintendo were upfront that they weren’t satisfied and it was scrapped 2 years in. Retro then planned out the game, had a recruitment drive, made a new engine and the game in 5 and a bit years. Game development is long now. 6 years isn’t unreasonable. There’ll surely be more sequels coming and they’ll hopefully take half the time.
It was never being developed by namco. It was being developed by Nintendo themselves. Nintendo literally confirmed that it was them who was developing it before canceling it.
Heres the deal GOOD games take time and the average cook time for a AAA game is 8+ years. This game had the slight misfortune of being scraped and starting over which makes it longer. It was prbly in pre production 2015-16 before being scraped by 2019 to start over. So this is not so much development hell (yet, be considered if 2025 doesnt happen) where its more just normal game development.

You know, I'm just realizing how big it is right now by seeing how long fans have been waiting.
Yeah I can tell how much they really want this game to come out so badly, because we all waited ages for this game to eventually come out
Id say the delay is mostly due to the development restart + the scope of the game.
Yeah that's true tho
Great Video
Thanks. Also are you looking forward to Metroid Prime 4?
@@Alwoomy not really sorry
