An American invented the automobile for public use. Whatever they say is the "right" way to do it, is the right way to do it. LITERALLY the intent behind the entire vehicle's design was for the driver to be left-oriented. The British had to intentionally rape the designs in order for it to fit into their backwards system. When the streets were carrying only pedestrians and just horse-and-buggy, that was fine, but even the majority of the British professional driving community agree that left side driving orientation is the proper way to operate motor vehicles for mass transit.
