    Wow, I'm really glad that he has slimmed down and is considering a return to acting. He is such a cool guy. :)

    MacGyver was way more than the tools used by him. It was the idea of the self-made individual able to make the most out of ANYTHING, not just paper clips & rubber bands.

    • @janoroh
      @janoroh  7 лет назад

      Well, I probably wouldn't phrase it exactly as American Dream-esque with the whole "self-made man" stuff, but basically, yes. Using your own brain, your own knowledge and ideas to get through the day and generally not rely on others (even though the importance of friendship and the sheer necessity to sometimes rely on others who want to help you was another big part of the show).

    I love his reaction to the interviewer saying that the new MacGyver is ''so bad''.. ;)

    • @janoroh
      @janoroh  7 лет назад +2

      Haha, yes, that was my favorite moment, too. :D I almost feel a bit bad that I didn't phrase it a bit more ... uh ... diplomatic now that everyone can see it on the internet, but I was lacking words on the spur of the moment cause it's really... not good, like, at all. :D

    • @JayeMallard619

      Oh God, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that by commenting I was talking to ''the interviewer'' directly.. ;)
      I do love how you say that you ''almost'' feel ''a bit'' bad for not phrasing it more diplomatically. Truly, your remorse is palpable..;P
      I haven't seen any of it, but I understand that if the original concept has been tempered with, the fact that the new guy bears the name and sports a similar hairstyle doesn't make him ''MacGyver''.. and really when any show is as much of a classic as the original MacGyver is, I tend to be against the idea of trying to revamp it. As long as people still watch the original, then it's obviously not ''past it'' and in need of any refurbishing.. Just don't touch it.
      Anyway, thank you for this interview. I am a bit jealous that you got to sit down with this charming man ;).. It's nice that he continues to participate in these things periodically even though he's been semi-retired from tv for quite some time now.. although I would like to see him on screen again sometime, too.. ;)

    • @janoroh
      @janoroh  7 лет назад

      Oh, how true, how true. :D And no worries, it's obviously not obvious from the video description that it's actually me in the video. ;) Well, I honestly appreciate their effort to revamp the very poor original concept they went with after fans tore apart the first awful trailer they released around May. You can feel that they wanted to make it feel more like MacGyver afterwards... but well, the only thing they really did was put Lucas Till in a MacGyver season one style jacket and give him a better haircut. The problem is that none of the cast and crew seems to have any idea what MacGyver was about and never even seen an episode of the original. Like I said in my comment to another poster below, they put out some PR clips where everyone is talking about their "very favorite moment" from the original show, and EVERYONE just names a random scene from the first three or four episodes since this is obviously all they've ever seen. Like they were handed a season one DVD box with the order to have a look what they got themselves into. Even James Wan who claims to be such a super big MacGyver fan talks about the map rolling scene... which is from the opening of "The Gauntlet", episode four of season one. So it's just ridiculous if you see these clips as a real fan.
      The new producer guy did a pretty good job at Hawaii Five-0, I really like that show, but MacGyver (2016) seems just rushed, careless and without any clue of the character. Too bad for the cast, they seem like nice guys (which is why I feel indeed a bit bad about publicly hating on the show :D), but it's all just so poorly written and executed. One of my most favorite ridiculous scenes so far was in episode one at the end when they go like: "Oh, yeah, by the way, we're being shut down because the DXS [= their team] has been compromised. But no worries, we'll still be working at the same stuff with the exact same team, we'll just give it a new name. Oh, hey, why not Phoenix ... Foundation." I truly lack words for this kind of writing. :D

    • @JayeMallard619
      @JayeMallard619 7 лет назад

      You tell me this about the cast, how they've likely just seen the first few episodes, just enough to be able to look like they have some idea of what they're doing, and I think of Ben Browder who talked a few times about how as soon as he knew he got the part of Col. Mitchell on Stargate, he went ahead and used the 3 weeks or so he had before shooting began to binge watch all 8 seasons that had been made at the time.. THAT's being professional, dedicated and showing respect as an actor for the show that's going to allow you to feed yourself in the coming few years!.. If you can learn anything about a character you're going to play, as a ''professional'' actor, you have to do your research.. and for these new MacGyver guys, that ''research'' is watching the original show. It's not hard.. and if that seems like a chore to them.. well that says a lot about their gratitude and the success they deserve to reap off the whole thing..
      Oh. Yeah, not the best writing indeed.. Like ''How to subtly re-introduce the original name.. Oh, I know! Let one of us come up with it off the top of their head!..'' ;)
      The thing about that friend who carries a gun and shoots people seems a little.. counterproductive, too. ;) First of all it's probably them expecting that in 2016 no audience would ever tune in to a show that doesn't have guns in every episode.. which is being narrow-minded and is ultimately insulting to said audience.. and two, it seems to be missing the point of what MacGyver was, hence insulting the original whose name you capitalise on while really disrespecting the concept and what the show was all about..
      RDA remains diplomatic about it, but I can understand why he loved your saying it like it is so much.. You said it like he can't but probably wants to.. ;)

    I agree on the part about the new MacGyver. You just can,t redo a classic! and he looks great! he,s slimmed down and looks so healthy

    • @janoroh
      @janoroh  7 лет назад +2

      He does! And I think the main problem isn't that the concept can't be adapted for modern times but that none of the cast and crew got any idea what the show was about. When CBS released these little promo clips where everyone talked about their favorite moment from the original show, you could clearly see that they ALL just picked random moments from the first three or four episodes (I guess they were forced to watch that little amount for preparation). The girl goes like: "He just goes in and is like Bond, James Bond. That's so typical MacGyver."??? And Lucas Till says something along the lines of: "My favorite is the one with the carnivorous ants. He just goes in and saves a village because he's MacGyver."??? Those promo clips are really telling for anyone who knows anything about the original show and make you realize even more that none of them has any grasp of what the original show was about since they literally never saw even a single episode before doing this new thing.

      I totally agree....on both. I hate the new MacGyver and it's bad. As the interviewer says, the new MacGyver isn't anything like the original classic MacGyver. But no one can replace RDA as MacGyver. And I agree he looks great! I hope so much that he will one day be back in front of the camera again - he needs to be acting!

      What the hell's going on? Richard's got old! Oh yes, Just like me, now I'm very sad. Couldn't you invent something to keep you young? This new bloke just doesn't make it. I grew up with MacGyver and as a kid I always used to try to remember the clever things he did, what he made out of nothing, how he got out of trouble with stuff we wouldn't look at twice. I particularly remember the episode where he held back acid with milk chocolate, because as he explained, chocolate containing milk is an antacid! Brilliant I still hope to use that trick one day. Oh memories.

    Here's the thing about the MacGyver remake show, the people behind it and the network don't really care about making an authentic MacGyver show, they only care about using the name to make a crap procedural to capitalize on the original show's name. They've done the same thing with the original Magnum PI and Hawaii 5-0 shows which I'm sure are just rote soulless procedurals too and nothing like the original shows and certainly not very good. That's all CBS cares about, nothing more, so of course the remake is going to be nothing like the classic show.

    • @PeterAden
      @PeterAden 2 года назад

      I actually think the Magnum reboot has done a really good job of capturing the essence of the original. I also think that has a lot to do with it being show creator, Peter Lenkov's favorite show from his childhood so he spent a lot of time getting it right, where-as MacGyver was dropped on him with an already messed up screwed up pilot and only a few weeks to fix the mess the first guy made of it. Having said that ALL CBS police procedurals use the exact same formula. You can actually mix and match the characters across all those shows and they still make sense.

    • @ilurvemv
      @ilurvemv 2 года назад

      @@PeterAden I couldn't make it through the pilot and I never watched the original show. But then I really don't like cop procedurals anyway so that could be why.
