I wish the game had different kinds of challenges instead of just "how fast you can do it", which is the only gameplay I've seen.

I love how Ron starts out like "what? they just want me to do that first thing?" like the game is not putting effort in. Then he immediately gets his big kid grin on and has to keep trying for better scores haha.
I'm born in 82, and I just got this yesterday thinking it was going to be rubbish, but it's different than I expected in a good way, give it a chance it's not bad👍🏼
@Madlittlepixel I had a $20 NSO Gift Card as well as a pre-order on the Deluxe Edition so I ended up double dipping and I started playing last night. I have a Pro Controller but it just doesn't feel the same. So when you mentioned that the NES controllers are on sale on Nintendo's site, I grabbed them right away. Just waiting for them to be shipped.
You are right, the game is stupid fun. It's that instantaneous shot of dopamine every time you successfully complete a challenge. We never had trophies for this kind of stuff growing up so this just adds another layer to something we are already familiar with, making it new again. It definitely messes with your head like that

Man, I smell my freshly opened everything! I'd say my favorite is either new books or Magic the Gathering cards fresh out the booster (pokemon cards have a different smell for some reason).

Looks awesome. I’m glad you can use the NES online controller. I picked up my preorder and just ordered the Japanese version with the Famicom controllers on eBay.
Never was into to speed running but the presentation and extras make it look enticing to get.

I picked mine up today from GameStop; I pre-ordered it right when it was announced a few months ago and I’m super happy to have it. Il probably never open it but it’s great to watch you and some other RUclipsrs unboxing this set.
They should be putting 150 games on a cartridge
This game is surprisingly fun. I'm not going for all S ranks (A-rank minimum; A+/A++ preferred), and although I'm not normally too crazy about time trials or speedrunning, the challenges are generally so short, simple and to the point that they scream "just one more try." Over and over and over again. It really does encourage replays to beat your scores, in a way that really does have a classic gaming type feel. It's addicting in a way you just don't see in video games these days.

I thought it was weird they never ported nes remix. And even more weird is not a single person mentioned it. Id put it in comments on vids about ports wed like to see and get 0 likes. Now this comes out (and its cool) and suddenly its a smash hit. 🤷♂️ but nobody missed NES remix? Its not like anybody was waiting for a modern remake of NES champs. I thought itd be perfect for switch and nothing was ever said by anybody. Yall are weird😅

When I buy games on eBay these days I always look for carts that have peoples names on them or some other writing. Not something I would have ever thought I would do. Gives them character I think.

The questionnaire at the beginning is a great way for Nintendo to gather data on its players.. good data though.. I bet if enough ppl say a game is thier fave, we will see more of it in the future..

I do to. But the important thing is to always have fun! Sure life is hard now but at least once a week I make a me day where I just play the games I wanna play all day with a couple beers (optional) and just chillax.

In theory, it would be easy to open it up and put a board in there. You’d just need to put an opening on the bottom for the board to come out.

Whoa James Rolfe on AVGN actually talked about this game and how it is one of the most sought after that I know, back on the NES it came on a gold cartridge, I didn't think they would re-release it after how many years
It's nowhere near the same thing as the original. NWC in name only. The original NWC 1990 was a mix of Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer and Tetris. There was no choosing a game or anything, it was the exact same every time. You start on SMB, get 50 coins and it automatically switches to Rad Racer. You complete a race and finish by playing Tetris until the time runs out. The whole thing (all 3 games) lasted about 5-7 minutes.
If you only described this game to me I'd probably think it's stupid. But watching the actual game play brought back so many memories of trying to get to the first door in Super Mario 2 in one shot as a kid. I bought it before I even finished watching this video!
The one thing they should have done is gave a working cart to pop into an nes system.
I hope they do something like this for SNES. While I did grow up with NES, I don’t really enjoy many games that old anymore. But I do think SNES games are still as good as the day they released
I had my doubts about this game thinking that it might make me play my 80s games in speed run, but in fact is very adicting as it is, and even if I play the normal game I am not doing the speedrun, which is fantastic for me. 😂

I just got mine as my pre-order was lost in the mail. It’s a lot of fun. I never played NES remix, so I don’t have that to compare.
I’m baffled that they didn’t include a persistent leaderboard. They should have included more games, they could have charged $59.99 for the base game and we still would’ve payed it(they should have at least added PunchOut!)
They should have included the NES style controller. Also, why didn’t they include an option to modify the controls. It would be much better (for me at least) if y=b and b=a.
As soon as I saw this, I started thinking… what if I (or someone else) would make it actually playable on a NES Console using a custom or programable motherboard?

Just get the lowest tier of switch online, its pretty cheap for just one month. There's a million ways you can play nes games.
I'll mostly just keep all the extra stuff wrapped up new and play the game
The box is a PITA to open without creasing it. It took me a minute to get in mine without messing it up.
Yeah, even when I opened the top it was a pain, just cut the extra minute of struggle out if the video lol
I usually slip my knife under the flap and pull towards me with the spine of the knife and then lift up on both corners. I had to use two knives to get in this one.
I had trouble getting the pin box open too.

Would have bought the Deluxe Edition, but the lack of NES controllers basically killed that idea.
I mean maybe if it came with all the full versions of the games included or unlockable it would be worth it. Other emulators implement speed runs better. Just Nintendo trying to cash grab off of nostalgia for the classics again. Just like they have been since the Wii era and ever since.

So it looks like to get S - you basically are getting the absolute tightest time for the challenge. There is no tolerance for a slight mistake- if you do, then you just get an A++. This is going to be frustrating!
This is only good for collectors but to people who will play this are either competitive or speed runners. Nintendo made good decision to make this.
I'll take a gold cartridge over famicom controllers, but that's me; it's a good physical collection, overall.
When they charge me for the order I didn't have enough funds so I put funds on it and they told me the date when they going to charge me. And they just didn't charge me and canceled my order.

The biggest disappointment for a there is no more games- Like Duck Hunt, Karateka, Galaga, Contra, Castlevania. 150 challenges sounds so weak. Imagine Mario Maker 2 had like 150 full levels in the base game, and some of these have just a few seconds… if they don’t even include the full games, it’s not worth it, maybe for like $10,- bucks I would buy this.
I got mine, but I haven't even opened it up yet. I will when I get the time.

I'm torn. On one hand, I wish we got controllers with our release. Yet on the other hand, it'd feel incomplete if we DIDN'T get the (empty) NES cart, since the carts are a huge part of NWC's history.
