@Jusstaaahumman which part? We’re talking about deinfluencing being hypocritical, not influencers in general. With that definition, you could argue that influencers have always been hypocritical. But, again, I’m saying that deinfluencing is no different than influencing and, therefore, deinfluencing is not hypocritical. Please clarify which part of the definition you’re referring to and whether you’re talking about influencers (suddenly a new topic) or deinfluencing (the original topic).

Really wealthy people don’t buy recognizable designer items and heavily logo-ed things. That’s for the masses and influencers trying to sell you stuff you don’t need. Real wealthy people wear stuff from brands that the average person wouldn’t even recognize and have no logos - it’s very much if you know you know.
Steve Jobs’ iconic turtleneck was from a designer named Issey Miyake and cost over $500, not a branded logo in sight. Those rich enough knew what it was, the rest of us just saw a black turtleneck.
Nothing screams “I’m broke as hell” like being head to toe in recognizable logos.

I work the night shift, love it! My hobby is baking which I have the privilege of doing on my nights off. I love making things for my friends that are from scratch because there is so much garbage passing as food out there these days (when the box says "tastes like homemade", no, no it doesn't!) It's a relatively cheap hobby because my husband and I go to the city once a month to get supplies from Sam's Club. I'm not sure what my point is but you can do something that makes you happy without spending an eff ton of money.

45 yrs old now. My father once yelled ‘How much is that Calvin paying you to walk around with a overnight bag screaming Calvin Klein all over?’ (Nineties, trendy to walk around with ridiculous oversized shoppers with big logo’s) 😂. He once took me window shopping to point out the clothes I ‘really needed’ and ‘could not afford’. Then he said he was not going to increase my clothing allowance but he would sponsor a workshop in sewing. I took it and have been sewing most of my clothes ever since. I knit my sweaters, I crochet, I sew. I have clothes made of cotton, silk, linen, wool, mohair, etc. Best investment ever. I look at a Chanel show online and can copy it by looking at it. Tailored to my body. It saves so much money (because you know the amount of work it took, you make the most economical decisions on what to make) in the long run, you can splurge on that one blouse with the beautiful pattern. Or a nice pair of earrings.

22:52 She said a cheap deodorant works as well as the expensive one, to which you replied, "No, invest in a good deodorant, especially in the summertime." But wait, who said the cheap or affordable product ISN'T good? That's the perfect example of how when people hear the word "cheap" they often automatically associate it with it being "not good" or poor quality. We need to break this mindset & instead evaluate the product based on how well it performs, NOT based on the price, brand name, influencer or salesperson who happens to be promoting the item. We would do well to judge the item based on it's merits. I feel the same way about people & the whole "affirmative action" thing. What does a person's exterior appearance, coloring or sexual preference have to do with their competency for a particular job?? The answer is: NOTHING. Judge a person's fitness for a job based on their merits, qualifications & character; that's it. That is the only fair way, as MLK Jr. said.

Over the years, I have seriously decreased hauling because I was never influenced by influencers. I was i fluenced by scents being "LIMITED EDITIONS" OR "SEASONAL". Those marketing tricks have been used over the last 30 years.

I actually spent money on the quality bookshelf I wanted this year instead of buying crazy items in bulk. Only things I'm buying in bulk are water, toilet paper, paper towels, and antibacterial hand soap. Live below your means, enjoy life, and take care of yourself people(aka, go to your annual medical appointments).

And take care of each other too. Save up so that out of our abundance we can be a blessing to someone in our family or community who is in need. And as far as buying water in single use plastics that end up in landfills, I filter tap water through a zero water filter & it's better than bottled water. I am helping the environment, drinking the same exact clean, quality H2O & I have nothing to buy or haul. Not to mention we are saving the environment from having trucks burn fuel to ship these pallets of bottles everywhere. The less we buy them, the less collectively we pollute. Change starts with me.

@FreedomAndJustice4All believe it or not, im debating if we should get a fridge that has the water connection because we do have that option in our apartment. But I drink out of my metal water cannister and I drink my ice tea out of the reusable. Trust we are trying But due to our brother moving in has made things more costly like groceries, water, supplies like toilet paper. Maybe that sink filter will help .

"It's not normal....." Yes it is. It depends on how you started out in life. I started out in the USA, so poor that we lived in a bus, didn't have running water, bathed/washed our clothes in the river, caught/hunted/grew our own food, didn't have electricity (we had lanterns, propane camp stove, and a small gas generator for when we needed electricity for something), and all my clothes were hand-me-downs from my brother (4 years older than me) and my cousins (also older). My family worked extremely hard, we were honest, had excellent work ethics, and loved each other over phone screens or what big ticket item they can provide for us. Were there toys i didn't get that I wanted? Trips I wished we could afford? Wants that I wished, prayed and hoped for? Of course, but we had everything we needed. I've worked five jobs at one time before, because all of the big companies are greedy and don't want to give you 32+ hours a week, because then they have to offer you insurance.... I went for years without insurance and working at least two jobs. Right now because of the economy, even dual income households where I live tend to have two jobs...both parents. It's not just common, it's extremely common to need a side hustle.
Is it right, is it okay? No, but I (and most people) will do whatever is necessary for my children to have everything they need and as much of the stuff they want, as I can afford. Whether or not it is common, depends on your beginnings, *life* circumstances, some choices (we've all made bad ones), and to be quite honest...luck. You didn't get hit by a drunk driver today and didn't lose your life today? Good luck. You eat healthy, don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, but you still get cancer...three times? Bad luck. Luck plays a huge roll in human existence...no the Earth's existence and it's evolution...literal luck. We could all still be dinosaurs if the Earth didn't have mass destruction events that led to us crawling out of the proverbial muck. Was it good luck those disasters happened or bad luck? I guess that depends on if you want to be a dinosaur.... 🤷🏻‍♀️
My point, if you and everyone you know work more than one job, it's probably normal for your demographic/region/culture/society/whatever. So don't feel bad or that you are abnormal in some way. And, if you are the only person you know who has to work two jobs to make ends meet...it doesn't mean you are a failure, that you're abnormal, that there's something wrong with you.... That means that maybe you need to look at your situation and see if it's your bad choices creating that reality, if it's bad luck, or is it because you have just never been given the opportunities that those around you have been given in their lives...... It may simply mean that you just have a different life experience than those around you.
Let me be clear, if you are spending all of your rent/bill/food budget on worthless products that you don't need... that's not a bad choice, that's stupid. You don't have to be an accountant or been taught good finance practices from a young age, to know that spending money you don't have is a bad idea. It's not ignorance, it's stupidity. But hard working people having to work two jobs to pay for bills, groceries, and everything their family needs to survive, can absolutely be normal.

the complaint about the hoka shoes - she said she goes walking a lot - your activewear sneakers wear out! when i used to run cross country, i was going something close to 35-50 miles a week. by the end of the season they were worn out! and that was only like three-four months! of course if you’re walking a few miles almost every day they’re going to wear out in under a year. and if the complaint is that they’re expensive to be replacing regularly, then yeah that’s a discussion to be having. but i want to see what the bottoms of those shoes look like, bc if the treads are nearly worn through then that just means you were using them and wore them out!
i guess people done just wear out their shoes anymore and that’s where this is coming from? they just buy them when a new cute pair is available and throw away the old ones??

Yep I do a lot of walking and I actually think I have permanent nerve damage in my heel due to a pair of winter boots wearing out. They had like a hard spine in the heel that would dig into my heel and make it feel all tingly. After walking to work and school in those boots everyday after a few months, now even years later if I step on my heel wrong it makes my whole heel go tingly/ numb. So weird!!
My point is: people who don't walk/run regularly don't realize how fast you can wear your shoes out.

When everyone started going crazy over Stanley cups I just laughed. I thought good for you Stanley, taking advantage of these trend followers. Also thank you Ozark for keeping your thermal cups affordable for those of us that just like thermal cups. My dad was buying Stanley before they were trendy. Only true Stanley fans will understand this. Growing up my dad has a green Stanley thermos with the cup for a lid. A year or 2 before the Stanley trend started my mom bought him a new Stanley thermos for around $20 cause the green one was rusty because it was so old & used so much. Then suddenly Stanley cups were $50+. They joined the expensive cup club. People grabbing these $50+ cups while Ozark is sitting there for $20-$30. Does the exact same thing.

So I have a pair of Hokas that I wear to work. I work in a lab where I am on my feet a lot and walking around. They were recommended by several nurses when I was looking for shoes that might help decrease my ankles being swollen and in pain at the end of the day. I have had them for over 6 months and they are not as cushiony as they originally were but I plan on buying a new pair in a month or two because they definitely helped. I have tried new balance, nike and some other brand I can't remember and after 8 months it was like I was walking on boards. I have recommended buying Hokas to my co-workers when asked and to some random guy in the parking lot who asked if I liked my Hokas.

    26 and making between 35k to 45k here;
I am influenced by dermatologists when I pick my gentle cleanser at walmart, my asian sunscreen online with discounts and tricologists influence my pick of drugstore shampoo and conditionner because I now know about ingredients that work for me, a russian nail tech influenced my choice of cuticle remover and cure time for my UV lamp when I do my nails at home.
I wouldn't say I am influenced to get new product categories or I create wants for myself, but I do think my choices within these categories are influencable. I had to buy a pair of winter boots this year, did a ton of research from influencers on features that were desirable (like the goodyear welt for repairability, types of leather tanning practices, designs that were more timeless and versatile) and I got items to care for them (a brush, mink oil, shoe polish)
I'm not about to make a mortgage payment ON A HAIR TOOL, but I will definitely look for high quality brands when thrifting.

My opinion is that there's only so many ways to formulate colored lip goop. (Or eye/body/face goop for that matter.) So essentially many people are throwing away hard-earned money on the same 4 or 5 types of goop that have limited shelf lives. I have come to disagree with the culture of over-consumption, particularly with makeup. At least a nice piece of real jewelry doesn't expire, go rancid & get thrown away. I have learned the hard way to put money away in savings for emergencies. A makeup collection isn't going to help when I need a car or house repair, or to help a friend or family member in a jam. I just pray we can all heal ourselves of the mindset of excess, over-consumption, greed & the all too often black hole of debt that results. I want to be grateful for & make wise choices with the material things & finances I've been entrusted with. Otherwise, why would God give me more if I can't be trusted with what I already have? America needs to get out of overspending & debt & I'm starting with me. Real freedom is being debt free & having abundance to help myself, then others.

I already had my doubts the very moment the word ‘Deinfluence’ came up. And when people felt like they have to showcase how much they are now Deinfluencing, I knew it was just going full circle.
It’s just the same as where it all started. These people gained the views and following from all the ‘influencing’ and showing off products, linking them on their bios. But now they’re going the other way and getting the same views just from ‘Deinfluencing’. If they are still selling something, then you know It’s just another micro trend where people are trying to make bank, dressed in a different fast fashion dress.
Like, we don’t need these labels trying to dictate how we live our life. We didn’t even need to have given it a label on the first place.
Just keep to yourself, keep quiet and work on trying to declutter and clean by yourself. Something like this, we don’t have to broadcast it for the world to see or to get validation.

Ooo, that was fun and funny! I buy what I need when I need it. I do buy high quality, more pricey items when replacing something. BUT the designer’s I purchase from do not have any adverts on their items! Wait, I take that back. I needed a new handbag and it had the designer name on a tag on the handbag strap, easily removed though and thrown away. I’m not about impressing anyone, I just want items that will last me a long time. I still have clothes from high school that I wear, I’m 55! If I have a want, it’s usually books but I go to the library. I’ve the money to purchase them but why? If I really like a book and know I’ll read it again and again, then I’ll buy it. Otherwise, I wait 6 months on a want. If it’s still wanted and is an investment (i.e., art, furniture, rug cleaner), then I purchase it. I don’t have enough war paint or skin care products to warrant an extendable, two tier, draw container! I only have two feet, how many pair of runners do I truly need! ONE pair. And PLEASE, invest in high quality deodorant every time! It’s for the greater good of all! 👃🤢🚫
