I remember working at 4 am in a lab replacing the media in thousands of test tubes - this song was playing on the radio...it spoke to me...and I quit that crappy job.
Foley had her successes -- and after her work with Meatloaf and Hunter, she is undeniably a great singer -- but, in relation to her talent, she is one of the unsung heroes of the New Wave. And her album Spirit of St. Louis, and song Sons of Europe, are forgotten gems.
Wow what a tremendous clip, thanks for sharing, Ian Hunter is great! For what it's worth, Ellen Foley was the original singer with Meatloaf on Paradise by the Dashboard Light, she went on in the 80's on TV's Night Court as Billie, before Markie Post.
I can't think of many male artists who made good use of the eighties zeitgeist, the spirit and vibes of the eighties. He makes it so appealing. I almost physically hurt with nostalgia.
Her version of "Stupid Girl" rocks more than any other. Even the Stones'. I lost that album in a divorce. Hang on to it and treasure it. It absolutely rocked. I wish I could find it again. I envy you.
I loved Ellen Foley's work on this song as well as on the Meatloaf "Bat Out of Hell" record. I have to confess having a crush on Karla Devito. This may have been a clip from the old "Friday's" tv show which was a "SNL" type show.
other way around - Ellen Foley was on the show (Night Court) first. Markie Post replaced her. I was really hoping that she would have returned in the finale - but it didn't happen.
Ian is cool as f***! The Hoople should have done more Stateside! Sometimes Americans don't really get English stuff, but cheers to those of you from America who do! That said, this tune is good, but production values spell 1980 a little too obviously!

I was in Amsterdam and got hammered to this in 1981. I had to get outta there. Hunter is my hero..
Yes it was a 7" in the Netherlands and even made it to the Top 40! I remember talking about the song at school. :-)
androom and I thought it was only me. Having a flash back. Nice one man..

Yes, folks, that is THE Ellen Foley who played Billie Young on "Night Court."
She was so much better than the insufferable Markie "Dumb As A" Post.
And the same Ellen Foley who sang backup on Meat Loaf's "Paradise By the Dashboard Light".
@@perleydaywilder3562 Nothing wrong with Markie. She was awesome in the _Buck Rogers_ episode "The Plot to Kill a City."
Wow what a tremendous clip, thanks for sharing, Ian

Mick Ronson a guitar GOD!!! Ian Hunter is a talented dude. they rocked together.
Lol! One the GREAT anti-disco songs! Ian Hunter and Ellen Foley: for my money, it doesn't get any better than that.
this song is about the legendary Studio 54...
I can't think of many male artists who made good use of the eighties zeitgeist, the spirit and vibes of the eighties. He makes it so appealing. I almost physically hurt with nostalgia.
What a band?
I went to a live show of his last night at the tabernacle in mt tabor nj. Great show still kicking it at 75
+Justin Fencsak Ian Hunter in Morris Plains NJ? Must have been a great show, eh?
I like the way Hunter sings in his natural English accent - not that many from his generation did.
Awesome. Simply awesome RnR!!!!!!
Hear is another one of my favorite Ian Hunter songs.
Loved The Show Friday’s. Hunter Ronson also did Once Bitten Twice Shy on this Episode of Friday’s but just can’t seem to find it
love the clothes, the guitars!
@Pbirv
Yes, it was "Fridays." I was a regular "extra" on that show, and was in the audience on this one.
Her version of "Stupid Girl" rocks more than any other. Even the Stones'. I lost that album in a divorce. Hang on to it and treasure it. It absolutely rocked. I wish I could find it again. I envy you.
Ronson's so wicked.
Ian Hunter and Ellen Foley back in 1980 or 1981.

it is.
Ian Hunter is GOD!!!
@crapple009 now this, this is rock n roll my friend.
Sorry - to clarify, Suzy Ronson did the vocal on the Live "Welcome to the Club" recording.
I used to do her fan club here in England from 1981 to 1984. What was I thinking?
@AHandsomeman It sure is and aren't we ever so lucky to have had it. Hunter/Ronson band rocks!!
A very sexy Ellen Foley.
...with Martin Briley on bass?
"Salt In My Tears?"
or is it Geoff Appleby?
Remember Elen on Night Court? Post Meat Loaf Paradise by the Dashboard Light!!!
a Classic ! : )
Eric Parker....I love ya man!!!!
Choon. nuff said.
Ellen had a real cool song called "Young Lust" back then...check it out.
@theuncletodd Many thanks for the correction- had always thought it was the other way around.
just a little trivia...this song is supposedly about STUDIO 54...
Suzy Ronson did the chick "patter" at the end of the song. Great stuff, in one way. I miss Mick.
Oops, the song was The Shuttered Palace. (And I had just finished listening to it. Sheeesh!)
Que pena que Ellen Foley no tuviese el exito que se merecia.
are there any videos, withe ellen and the clash?
What is this? Nightcourt
@whynot280 Exactly- she replaced Markie Post.

Whatt're we gonna do, go home and watch reruns of the Muhhamed Ali - Marlene Dietrich fight?
This "critter" woman?
Apparantely he doesn't wanna dance.
Allright, man, don't worry about it. No need to shout at me. Holy shit, man...
This is pretty cool, though.
Sad part is his bass player (Martin Briley) has more talent in his left pinky than Ian ever DREAMED of having!
flurng meah ~ a trite comment.
+flurng go post on Briley's page then.
+Mike Ollier my honest opinion. check out some of martin's work - you'll agree!
+John LaRue I have - many times!
He cant sing and this song sucks, Ellen is the best thing about it. Sounds like she wants to blurt out "what's it gonna be boy, Yes or No."
Jeff Lynne Clone//
Jeez, did they ever rehearse? This was terrible!
