Think one of the reasons of why Moona understands her is because she wants to communicate with her.
Not only the speaker needs to send a message as clear as possible but the listener or receptor needs to have the will to understand it.
yes
She's Indonesian, she can understand broken English pretty easily.
1. Moona is not an English speaker.
2. Japanese n Indonesian language kinda similiar. More similiar than English to Japanese.
We have "senpai" or seniorship word, we have some vocabs for some things especially particle words without meaning, etc.
In Japanese they have ne, yo, da, ya, ka, etc. In Indonesian, they have lah, kan, nya, ya, kah, etc. These words are just particles that don't have meaning in English. But it's to strengthening some words.
And btw it also applies for the whole eastern language seems like. Malay Malaysian also similiar like Indonesian language but less diverse.
there's a whole lot of assumption and "going with it" mixed in.
Over 300 different native languages are spoken in Indonesia. While Indonesian language or "bahasa" is spoken as a mother tongue by only 7% of the total population , it is the national language and is used by 250+ million people as their second language.
Just google it, as person who live in there i can confirm this. See the geography that so many island. Because so much diffrencies in language so people have habit to trying to understand what people other said even don't know the language.
Pekora barely understands English, Moona barely understands Japanese, but their immense desire to play together transcends the language barrier.
Moona’s Japanese speaking and listening comprehension is actually pretty good. The issue on minecraft is that her reading/writing comprehension is not at a level where she can converse in chat with the other hololive members.
I remember one moment Moona struggle reading message from her fans which written in Japanese letter.she decrypting/spell it slowly but still manage to read and understand it. she's also diligently learning and improving 🙏
@@annodomini2012 Its even worse in games. You may speak japanese or english, but to know the item name in the other? That can be quite hard.
@@annodomini2012 Moona herself said she barely understands Japanese
i honestly think its interesting to watch them speak in this pidgin-like way, moona knows some japanese and fairly decent english (enough to collab with ame and gura) and pekora at least knows a couple english words here and there, even if she cant write them correctly
I've been noiticing it more, but her voice gets really soft when she gets really happy (maby when shes emotional in general?) like at the end of Moonas meassage. She is the reason I first fell into this rabbit hole, and to see how much she's developed in the past year has been great to watch. I feel like Moona couldn't have come at a better time for Pekora, because it was feeling like she was falling more into her reserved/shy side and growing distant from the other members. Pekora is such a bright and caring girl, so I really am glad that she's able to express even a little bit of that with her fans and friends.
Same for me. Witnessing her character development is priceless. Such a precious bunny.
Same, I really love her
A literal rabbit hole.
Same. Yeah. I noticed she loves making pranks and stuff for other members to look at but doesn't feel comfortable connecting with them directly so it might just be that she needs people who like the same stuff as her. She likes getting reactions from people and playing a comedic role but struggles with normal interactions. So Moona being so attentive to Pekora's whims means that someone is spending time with Pekora and making her happy and understanding her, even if it's just redstone and building. Might be reading too much into it, but that's what I think.

Wow, it's all started because of her asking Moona Lapiz Lazuri. Now she choose working with someone rather than doing it alone.

Pekora: pardun?
Me who using wakanda language: both languages are difficult
Pekora is taking her English learning rather seriously it seems. It feels we've come a long way from Coco and Haachama being the only ones who really know English (And even with Haachama, it was only a general grasp of the language). It makes me wonder if Korone is still trying her best to learn English, since I know she was one of the first ones to actively attempt to learn the language for her fans. Pekora seems to want to learn it to interact with Moona and Kiara more than interacting with foreign fans, but that's as good as reason as any. She's even doing the smart idea of watching children's educational programs to try and pick up common vocabulary.
I'm really proud of her, learning a second language is really difficult, especially English. I hope she improves well enough to fully understand Moona and such someday.
I think a lot of it is that they all have a reason to speak it now since they all hang around with each other. That's the biggest stopping block to learning any language, if you don't have someone else to bounce your new knowledge off of it's a waste. Studies have shown over and over that learning a language beyond your first really isn't that hard, since your brain just find-replaces terms and grammar as needed (and native speakers will be able to figure out what you're trying to say unless you mess up really truly badly); it just _seems_ hard because you're constantly fighting against the voice in the back of your head going 'okay do we really need to do this?' When you think about it any group no matter how small immediately sets about building its own set of unique terms and in-joke references, so once you've found a reason you'll just end up falling into the correct patterns.
Although it certainly doesn't hurt that these girls are getting paid to mass-communicate, so they have two very good incentives now.
Sadly I think a big part of it boils down to decreasing views because of hololive EN. Most foreign viewers watch clips instead of streams so the introduction of the EN girls directly influenced the views ever more significantly.
Pekora seems to be one of the only ones to learn English out of pure interest and the wish to communicate with Moona. With Fubukis "only English" minecraft stream I really wasn't so sure. These seem an awful lot like a desperate attempt to gain back some of the foreign viewers. I dont want to blame them for doing it. They are most likely thinking that those decreasing numbers are their fault.
@@JanFieber what do you mean by decreasing view? I feel that their viewership is stable and in every stream i watched i can always see the presence of kaigai nikis
Alot of the Jp members realize how significant the international viewers are just by looking at the scary numbers EN members are getting especially gura. This is why they are interested in picking up English. You would think its the EN members who would need assistance from their senpais fame but it seems the other way round now.
@@JanFieber I don't think it's that big of an issue. I still see plenty of English comments in the JP streams.

I learned English way back around 2012/2013. It happened passively but slowly. At that time I was at the beggining of middle school and my dad gave me his laptop only during weekends to play games on, but it was so bad it couldn't even run Minecraft. As a middle schooler I was soo into minecraft so my only resort to enjoy it was to watch Minecraft youtubers back in the day. They helped me SO MUCH in absorbing the vocabulary and getting sentences right. If Pekora really puts her mind to absorb as much vocabulary as she can, she can definitely start understanding entire paragraphs on her own (she already somewhat have that ability) and her being with Moona can go a long way in learning!

hololive anime in a generic schools setting
Hololive English lesson was a thing.
Especially when Coco first joined, she held many English games and streams together with Haachama, but again, it was Coco and Haachma, they only teached crude english just for fun, and without any motivation drive to use it, learning new language will be useless as Coco and Haachama mainly speak Japanese. So in the end no need to use english to converse with them.
But now, with Moona and Holo En case, more HoloJP realized that learning En is usefull and have benefits and they "Have To" learn it to be able to convey their feeling properly both to the overseas fans and to their spaking partner this become motivation drive for them, especially Pekora.
IMO, Maybe that's why converse with Moona who barely can speak japanese will be more motivating than with Iofi who can speak japanese fluently.
Another season of Hololive school series would certainly be fun content but I doubt she'd learn anything from it to be completely honest. She needs her own learning routine and repetitions to develop long term memory. I think the best course of action for her is to learn as much vocabulary as she can now by herself and have some regular offstream talks with Kiara in English - they'd also get well acquainted thanks to that.
Pekora went from lone rabbit to reaching out to learning english just so she can communicate with Moona better, how sweet.

I think she's actually at a point where she could navigate most everyday situations, albeit with some difficulty and everyone speaking in simple sentences.
This is super interesting because it mirrors my experience learning Japanese. It takes me way longer than English did, mostly because the reading fluency just isn't there.
Pekora has a sizeable enough vocabulary but she's apparently learned all the words using their Katakana transcription, making reading and writing much more difficult and take twice as long because there's an extra, non-automatic step her brain has to navigate every time.
The only way to remedy that is taking an easy-to-understand book and a dictionary and slogging through it for an hour every day, for a few weeks or even months. Her playing with Moona is also helpful but without extra study there's not a lot of new things to apply during these chats.

As a Japanese teacher, I've learned that between grammar and vocabulary, grammar and phonetic knowledge, or how sounds are meant to be used in a given context, is the most important to being able to use a language as soon as possible.
Anyone can pick up new vocabulary with relative ease, and can even use a language, if they hang around people that frequently speak it long enough. Grammar and phonetic knowledge, however, are what let learners create sentences in the fly, and fill in the gaps while they building up their internal vocab bank.
I can guarantee if you teach someone a decent amount of grammar knowledge, constructs to fall back on and a way to look up new words on the fly, they'll get much farther than a guy that knows 1000 words, but none of the grammar knowledge to coherently put them all together

I remember when I first learned English, there's so many words that sound the same when speaking but is spelled differently aswell as words that sound the same and is spelled the same but has different meanings in context (an example would be male, mail, also stuff like mail armor which spells the same as mail, but has a completely different meaning than "letters" type of mail. Letters aswell could imply both characters in language aswell as a form of mail delivery, then there's the whole lie and lay spelling, he's lying and he's laying down, lie implies being not truthful, but at the same time you can say "lie down" which is spelled the same but doesn't mean to be untruthful).
Pekora doesn't necessairly have to watch children's shows, but I would strongly suggest she watches maybe cartoons or anime or movies in English with japanese subtitles. Hearing and listening is by far the best way of learning a language in my opinion, reading and such works aswell, but listening and hearing the words will help a lot with vocabulary, I know a lot of Japanese vocab thanks to anime and I first started learning English both in school but on the side as a kid I would watch cartoons like Simpsons and Family Guy with subtitles. One of the reasons why I knew from a very young age that American English and UK English is slightly different is because of cartoons actually, I took notice that we were being taught "sweets" in school but in the cartoon they would say "candy". And to be fair, young little me obviously liked the word candy more because "sweet" was already a word and having 2 different meanings to the same word confused me lol, so I just opted to use "candy" more since it was a different word.
But to be fair, most of the words that we use in the English language are quite easy to learn since they're used so much (but, be, to, too, and, that, the, is, and so on). In case there's someone translating this or don't understand what's up with "to" and "too".. "I want to do something", "I want that thing too" might help understand the two words a bit, however if you talk to someone they'll understand regardless if you write it wrong so it's okay. Also if words like "They'll" confuses you, it's just a shorter version of 2 words "They will" also "It's = It is", "I'm = I am", it's just made shorter but it helps a lot knowing what the full thing means to help you understand context.
TL;DR (Short for Too Long Didn't Read, meaning too much text so I didn't read it lol): Just a quick English example rant/help/opinion, you can text me if you need help with anything aswell :)
