I made 6 sweet potatos, your recipe is good, but all of them were eaten up by my kids in a few minutes. I only got 3. I will make more when no one is around... thanks-
This is the BEST sweet potato fries recipe!! I have tried so many different recipes both in the oven and air fryer. These were the tastiest and crunchiest - hands down.
Soaking them in water before putting the cornstarch for about 45 minutes makes them crispier. And add the salt after they've baked, salt makes them soggy.
I disagree Evelyn Jade. Did they look soggy to you when it showed the end result in the video? They didn't look soggy to me and he added salt before they were baked.
I used 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and 1/2 tsp of salt and added some heat with some ground red pepper served it with a sweet chili sauce and they were AMAZING SO GOOD!!!!! TY for sharing this recipe
I have tried probably a dozen or more sweet potato fry recipes, and although my husband and kids are sweet enough to eat them, I have yet to be happy. I can accept that they won't be as crisp as I like, but every time I recipe I have tried, they come out more like mashed fries - that was until I found this video! WOW! I've added cornstarch before, but this recipe is the perfect balance of potatoes, cornstarch, seasoning & cooking temperature. I wish I could include a picture because they came out amazing! I have just shared this recipe with my entire contact list!!! Thank you!!!
Look at those chubby hands.. Now this is a cook I can trust! To me that's a good thing, this recipe is the simplest I came across and I'm making this for dinner. Thanks

I have been trying for WEEKS to make the perfect sweet potato fries. FINALLY I stumbled upon your video and THEY CAME OUT PERFECT! I cannot thank you enough. I'm eating them right now :) ;) Love from Florida.
Actually 100% olive oil would be totally fine, what you don't want is extra virgin olive oil. They have different smoke points. You could also 100% avocado oil.
Thanks for this recipe! I have haloumi burgers and sweet potato fries twice a week. I'm addicted, and always looking for new ways to make the best sweet potato fries. Here are some Pro tips for this recipe: 1) No need for a ziplock bag, put in a bowl to shake instead. It will save you from buying ziplock bags. 2) Add salt to the fries before doing anything. Let them sit for 30-60mins, then pat dry. This draws out a lot of moisture for even crispier fries. Proceed with the rest of the recipe. 3) Experiment with different oils (peanut, vegetable, corn etc) as this is contributes substantially to the flavour profile.
I’ll try this exact recipe tonight! Hopefully it comes out good! UPDATE: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VERY VERY SHARP KNIFE! I had a knife as big as his and it was really sharp but not sharp enough. I had potato pieces flying everywhere and my cuts were uneven because the sweet potato was SOOO hard and thick! I didn’t have corn starch so I used a little bit of flour and it worked just the same! They were VERY delicious! Also, I soaked them for 45 mins and dried them off before I put the flour and seasonings on them. Then I put them in the oven at 400 for 25-30 mins. I’ll definitely do this again when I get a sharper knife! 10/10
thank you! I didn't know about the cornstarch! cooking for 20 children in our community that needs a good meal! great simple video and very helpful, ty! God Bless you! 🙏
i'm a student and i've had microwaved meals or ready to go sandwiches for convenience purposes. Just recently, i developed a passion for cooking and wanted to learn healthier alternatives. I already got the sweet potatoes and now i know exactly what to do with them. THANK YOU :D
The best tutorial I’ve watched. Very clear, well spoken, detailed (I ran out and got vegetable oil because I EVOO only, so thanks for that tip) and straight to the point. Thanks for tip.
This tutorial is the best How to Bake Potato Fries! I watched about 5 and all had me questioning because of its lengthy instruction. Not this video. This video went to the action and was able to follow the guide. I made awesome french fries as much as the appearance on the video. You, sir, rock!
I use olive oil (it isn't extra virgin, just pure olive oil) and they came out great :)) Also, adding cajun seasoning in the bag as you shake them is really tasty too 🤤🙌🏻💕💕
@@equalitygaming9013 Yeah it still tastes really good, just may not become AS crunchy as if you were to use veggie oil, or perhaps there isn't too much of a difference because sweet potatoes are really hard to make super crunchy like regular potato fries anyways so I personally didn't mind. I just turn the oven up super high the last few mins of cooking to add some crunchy bits on the outside and they are delish!♡ Just be sure to spray/butter the baking sheet you're using though! :)

The end result was a half-burnt, hideous (albeit still tasty!) mess! Thanks for the great walkthru!

Just soke the fries in water for 15 minutes and pat dry before covering with oil and baking - that'll make them crispy. Also: salt after baking! And coconut oil goes well with them and you can heat it up to high degrees!

@J OneLife you can definitely make this recipe and omit the cornstarch entirely, the fries just won't be nearly as crispy. Tossing the fries with oil of your choice and seasonings is a really simple way to make good baked fries with any potato, not just sweet potatoes either. One of my favorites with sweet potatoes is to use peanut oil and cajun seasoning.

The smoke point of coconut oil is 350*F. These are baked at 425*F. From the web: "When an oil is heated past its smoke point, it generates toxic fumes and free radicals which are extremely harmful to your body. When the smoke point is reached, you’ll begin to see the gaseous vapors from heating, a marker that the oil has started to decompose. Decomposition involves chemical changes that not only negatively affect the food’s flavor and nutritional value, but also create cancer-causing compounds that are harmful when consumed and/or inhaled."
Afifa M Look at the back of olive oil and coconut oil. Coconut doesn't have Trans fat bc that's man made. But it has a ton of saturated fats, more than olive. It's not as bad as Trans but not as good as unsaturated...
They have a crispy coating when they first come out of the oven (that's what the cornstarch creates) but very quickly become soft. That's the nature of sweet potato fries though because they are loaded with water. If you want them crispy crunchy, you're going to have to fry them.
Unfortunately, olive oil is not good for frying as it has a very low smoking point. He said that O.O is not good in the oven. So use any other oil, grape seed is my choice.
If you're using an electric oven, how close is your rack to the element (heat source)? On baking high temp recipes I will always move my rack up to the middle/mid upper part of the oven as the lower element will be burning hotter/longer cycles on high setting. This causes a lot of foods to "stick" or burn. It's not necessarily the temperature but the proximity to the heat source. I've used peanut and corn oil on these for years with good results. They can take the heat. You are exposing these fries to long periods at high temps, the oil has to be able to take it. I have always soaked mine in cold water and dried thoroughly before cooking the fries. I have a gas oven at home (no element) and an electric oven at my cabin (element) and I have to try to remind myself of this!
I haven’t seen you since the banana nut bread but I heard your voice and name and then the ingredient list and I knew I came to the right place!! Your amazing man, thanks!
I use paper bags for any fries. I season, salt then as I shake the potatoes. Always takes of excess oils, and shaking spaces out the spices over the whole bag contents. Remember, tho as you put taters into bags so breakdown seasoning to the amount of taters. Metal won't take away the excess oils, so either/or. Depends on how 'wet' you want your fries. Remember, in restaurants they are using 'strainer type' holders to cook, so oils fall out of & off of foods before seasons added in metal bowls.
This is my first time cooking anything ever so I’ll update when I’m done if anyone cares Update: it was okay I think I added too much of everything tho :(
Start small, add little, as you learn to find the right amounts. Remember you don't always need added salt if you are using seasonings either. Pros do because many work in businesses, restaurant kitchens. More salts, more drink orders.
425° F is about 218° C, in case anyone wonders
Bless you
Thanks man i wad just about to google it.

wrong. soaking them will remove the natural starch they have, making it unsmart to later add even more starch

is Corn Starch ? Corn flour uk ?

One question though...
Are they crispy?
They have a crispy coating when they first come out of the oven (that's what the cornstarch creates) but very quickly become soft. That's the nature of sweet potato fries though because they are loaded with water. If you want them crispy crunchy, you're going to have to fry them.
+Crouton Crackerjacks can I FRY them with olive oil?

I use paper bags for any fries. I season, salt then as I shake the potatoes. Always takes of excess oils, and shaking spaces out the spices over the whole bag contents. Remember, tho as you put taters into bags so breakdown seasoning to the amount of taters.
Metal won't take away the excess oils, so either/or. Depends on how 'wet' you want your fries. Remember, in restaurants they are using 'strainer type' holders to cook, so oils fall out of & off of foods before seasons added in metal bowls.

Looks SOooo yummy, thanks have learnt something from watching this video ❤
only use plastic zip lock bags when you will reuse them! if you are going to throw them away immediately, use a bowl instead !
im not a hippie but i agree

Thank you for this recipe! My dad didn’t want to believe that it is possible to make fries in the oven 😂
Edit. I wanna eat those so bad 🤤
I always love watching people eat thier food after. thank you for to recipe.
This is my first time cooking anything ever so I’ll update when I’m done if anyone cares
Update: it was okay I think I added too much of everything tho :(
Start small, add little, as you learn to find the right amounts. Remember you don't always need added salt if you are using seasonings either. Pros do because many work in businesses, restaurant kitchens. More salts, more drink orders.
I used less seasoning but with quality olive oil and they are the perfect healthy treats 3:24 for my dog.. Perfect
"very sharp knife"
and large and sharp
Great recipe, I am trying it today!
Thank you for sharing.
I don't have corn starch 😁
Me neither😂 🚙💨...
Pritpal Desai you dont need it. just soak them for 15 mins. pat dry and then in the freezer for 2 hours. they crisp up better from slightly frozen.
+coopertrooper thanks, I will try this
Pritpal Desai main thing is space bettween each potato i use a huge pyrex dish glass oven dish saves sticking
Use any flour. It works the same. It did for me :)
This looks so good
Fries stuck to foil and got destroyed. Wish he told me to spray the foil first :(
If they're coated in oil surely they can't stick
Looks yummy. I going to try this recipe . Simple and fast .
You said in the beginning of the video they were super quick to make, then you say it takes 40 minutes.....ain't nobody got time for that!!!!!
