I’m excited for the in depth video on the advanced balls. I’ve seen a used core ball once but never played with it. Also I’ve yet to see the Selkirk ball. Would love to see how they compare to the x-40 or dura
Maybe do a piece on court surfaces with different types of balls...? Concrete indoors, concrete outdoors, wood and vinyl indoors, and the new SportCourt plastic surfaces.
Didn't see the "Cheetah" balls reviewed. Been playing them outdoors for awhile now. They are my go to ball now. They are one piece, stay round, don't crack and play fast. Great price too.
Wow- I started playing this summer and there’s so much to learn. I never even considered much about the balls…until now!! I would like to try one of the intermediate/hybrid brands. **and, FYI- you guys should find a proofreader for your onscreen titles & labels. They are super helpful! But there are a couple of errors: competive for competitive and symetic for symmetric. Thanks for the good info!
Would like to try the SLK competition balls. We have a wide range of players in our group. My son is 16 and our oldest is 83 year old female. This is an awesome game anyone can play!
Thanks guys! What interests me the most would be what ball allows the most spin. I would think that it would be a ball that has a rougher surface. And that would make me think that the longer a ball has been in play, the rougher and “spinnier” it would be. Is this right? Please address this topic soon. Thanks!
My club tried SLK Hybrid for indoor use. Everyone enjoyed playing with them. However, in ONE WEEK 8 broke at the seam. Sticking with the Onix indoor. They last forever.
Great feedback on durability. Yeah that is the problem with 2 halves welded together is that they can crack along the seam :( and glad that the Onix has mastered it. Which Onix? Fuse or Pure?
My favorite indoor balls are the Penn 26s in Lava Red. They have a nice, low bounce, and stand out well, including for one of our players that's colorblind.
These balls are fabulous for wooden floors. They are highly visible, a much truer bounce than the way-too-bouncy Onix indoor ball, and don’t skid on the floor like the Onix can. All of these qualities allow for longer rallies.
@@nursenina8 agree with everything you said. The one downside is durability. If you have someone that really smashes the ball, you might go through one every 10 games or so. But I've also had balls that last longer.
Interesting to know about the different type of balls ..... Played about a year plus with seniors as we are still picking up and enjoying the game .... Will be good to try the intermediate ball to improve our game .............. hehehe
I'd love to try the Core or Dura Fast 40! Thanks for the video! Really interesting and waiting for a deeper dive. Kind of a nerd about this stuff. Really only played with Onix and Franklin X-40.

Nice, concise video. Would be interested in taking this selection of balls to clinics when I teach. I play with Franklin X and Dura but the opportunity to share all the different "feels" with students would be a great learning experience for all.
Thanks for the breakdown! I’m working with owners who have a volleyball facility and the flooring is a sport court, the problem we are having is finding a ball that has enough bounce on this type of surface. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Great video with explanations! I would love to try the competitive range, having used mostly intermediate range, it would be interesting to try the new range.
This is great. I’m excited to hear your results! Normally I use the Franklin X-40 and the Dura Fast 40. I want to try a ball that you feel performs the same as either of those but will last longer. Here in Utah we normally break 2-4 Duras every few hours. Even the Franklins break due to temperature, so we are always looking to find a different/better option.
Franklin X-40s will crack pre-maturely in cooler temperatures. At least that's from my experience. In warmer conditions, both Franklins and Duras lose their shape after extensive play. The wobbly effect. Aside from temperature issues, the habit of spiking the ball with paddle on the ground repetitively also contributes to cracking. It's a habit from those with a tennis backgrounds.
All of my pickleball buddies are totally confused. It seems that every week some coach is telling us the “best ball.” This video was very helpful. And I think it’s important that we all use one consistent ball during a game rather than mixing it up. I currently like the Franklin x40, but also the Onyx and the Dura. We play outside all winter. I also like the magenta balls because we can see them better (old eyes!)
One of the categories I would have loved to see was spin test out of the package! I've bought 36 of the Franklin-40 to date of those 40, 8 were out of round on delivery! We do a spin toss before every match and the out of round wobble of the spin is very noticeable on those 8.
Would you add recommendations which balls perform best when playing in temp hovering 50 degrees? Broken down similarly to what you described in this video? Thanks.
I've used most of the balls on the list in the description above, and a few more. There are 3 balls that I haven't tried yet and am curious about: SLK Competition, Core and Wilson Try 32 Pro. It looks like the SLK and Core are rotationally molded and the Wilson is injection.
New to the sport … anxious to immerse myself into learning this game. All of my play will be indoor for the next few months but once spring comes around, would be really interested in trying the hybrid ball.

If possible, I would love to try the DuraFast 40, the Core, or the Selkirk Competition balls. If those are not possible, any of the intermediate or even the beginner ball would do. Without knowing, I've been teaching and playing with he Franklin 40 balls since I learned to play close to 10 years ago. Thank you for all you do! If possible
Good video...I love the Dura40 but it breaks too often for my pocketbook...and the Franklin40 goes out of round way too soon which is worse cause many keep using a ball that isn't broken. Would love to try the Core.
My neighborhood started playing this summer. Most bought Onix paddles and therefore swear by Onix balls. I'd really like to try the Selkirk balls. We have tried the F-40 and DuraFast obviously, but they think those are the offical tournaments balls only. I'd like to show them the differences in play and not just say they are for tourneys.
love it! and we are going to do a deep dive into those competition balls so you will be equipped with all the details of why they are so popular and ideal for pro play.
I just started PB about 6 mos ago. I have a tennis background. I prefer the Onix balls with my Selkirk paddle. My hubby uses the Engage Elite Pro Maverick paddle and has not stated a preference. The Onix balls bounce higher than the Franklin X balls. I am a 50+ with knee trouble same with my hubby. The last thing we need is to tax our knees with a lower bouncing ball. I would like to try the new Wilson balls when they come out. I have used many Wilson products ove the years with tennis and have had good results with them. I hope they can do the same with PB.
