Thank you so much for posting your instructional video! That was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!! I'm leaving for Costa Rica in mid January 2023 . Question: I heard that the SIM cards are also sold from vending machines in the airport. Is this true?
no problem . have a nice trip to costa Rica...By the way, the last time I went to the airport they change the SIM provider. Now they have a company called " Claro" red logo near the baggage claim section. hope this update helps... by the way if you are keen in knowing more places to visit in CR just go to our IG profile for more info.instagram.com/deepintotravels/?hl=en
Good point. Local Sim card for phone calls and the Internet . Another solution is to use the Roaming service. You can ask your local provider ( AT&t , T-Mobile , etc ) to enable you to use the Roaming service . Hence, you don't need to install a new SIM. Now before doing that ask your local phone provider for prices . FYI: you can always buy a Sim Card in Costa Rica for 10 USD.
So, update on my trip : I arrived at the airport on Sunday close to 5 pm, so the Kolbi store was closed, I took an uber to the nearby mall to get a sim card from Claro, unfortunately it didn't work very good in Montezuma where I was staying :( It took about half an hour to get the sim card in the store and I got a 2 week plan for about $30 with the sim card. Then I went to San Jose with the same uber who was helping me getting the sim card. It turned out I accidentally ordered an uber xl (bigger car in this case it was a Nissan SUV) which costs more, the whole uber trip cost me about $40 :( Then I got on a local bus to Jaco for $7, but I got some bad vibes from the local people walking in the terminal and getting on the bus. Later I found out some tourists got their baggages stolen in local intercity buses, so watch your bags at all times and better take tourist shuttles which are safer.
thanks for the tips. how much time should it take to walk from the airport exit to the bus station? is there enough space on the bus for me and my one checked bag?
Thank you for watching. It takes about three minutes to walk from the airport to the bus station ( red bus colors ). Your checked bag can usually be accommodated on the bus ( no extra fee ). Here's a suggestion: make sure nobody gets off the bus before you. People sometimes try to steal your bag at the last stop. This is not meant to scare you, just to let you know it is possible so you can prevent any wrongdoing from occurring. Have a nice trip!!
hola - vivimos tiempos complicados y la verdad es que la ciudad es un poco menos segura en la noche. Desgraciadamente no hay tanto policia y pues un turista es una preza facil si no tiene guia donde ir. espero que que sea de ayuda. saludos

Taxi driver, get zona roja , san jose.
Walk over to Arrivals and grab a red taxi that just dropped someone off . He'll take you back to San Jose for $15 almost always.
Por qué evitar tomar el bus de noche?
