  • In Week 10 of our 14-week Striper Migration Report Series, OTW's Assistant Editor Matt Haeffner gets in touch with licensed surf and fly-fishing guide, OTW contributor, and drone videographer, Tim Regan, to discuss the state of the migration on Long Island's South Fork. Later, Matt is joined by charter captain and friend of OTW, Captain Brian Coombs of Get Tight Sport Fishing, to talk about the class of fish in and around Boston. Matt and Tim cover the waves of bass that are rounding the eastern tip of Long Island, how and where to intercept those larger migratory bass, and anticipating what changes the June new moon will bring to the bite. Then, Matt and Brian dive into the diverse forage base north of Cape Cod, how to fish live bunker vs. mackerel, and timing your striper outings with ideal wind, weather, and tidal conditions.
This week, big bass up to 50 pounds are stationed outside of Raritan and Jamaica Bays, waves of stripers from 10 to 30 pounds are rounding Montauk, and bass in the upper 30- to 40-inch class chase a smorgasbord of bait outside Boston.

Just came from monomoy, water temp was 48 in the ocean and 63 in the sound. Zero stripers in the rips. Only a ton of jellyfish. I think we are two weeks behind last year.

Whatever you do, do not fish in the bay in Rhode Island. The commercial folks decimated the bait fish aka: pogies. Went up and down the river down to Bristol Harbor, nothing.
Very simple, no bait fish, no fish aka: stripers.
