Thank you John you have inspired me to take up flying again. I have bought an alt 1mtr dlg. Which I have just finished building. Tomorrow will be my first flight. Fingers crossed no hard landings.
I've had a balsa glider waiting to be built for over ten years now. Think its time I put it together and go have myself some nice relaxing fun - like this guy. Could be the least expensive therapy yet for the doldrum blues.
I fell in love with the pop up powered model many years ago but sadly have not been able to locate one as yet. Great video as usual so thanks to you both.
Nice, had a Salto many years ago, built from a kit sold by a guy near the Wasserkuppe. It had to come in fast for a landing or it would get unstable. Saw a full size one fly at an air show at Kirchheim Tech.
She came in a bit hot at the end, but the wing catch dissipated most of the energy. My cousin (distant) Jimmy Doolittle used to do that with a tree when he had to crash land in a field back in his barnstorming days.
Your typical beautiful glider and skilled flying John, but wait, there must be a bug in your microclimate control software; there are clouds in the sky 😏
Have you ever tried the same design but with the elevators pointed down... The skinny then part of the tail might have to be raised a bit so if it has to land on its belly it won't hurt the elevators.
Aerodynamically it’s actually better the other way up. Because it’s a rudder as well as an elevator, when it’s inverted the rudder movement also wants to roll the glider into the turn. A normal V tail does the opposite. They just don’t mount them inverted because it would be too vulnerable.
I download my plans from Outerzone and then print them out on my large format printer. I mostly build from plans but do pick up the odd kit from swap meets etc.
@@SlopeRCGliders thank you. I haven't build a plane since I was a kid but I'm getting the urge to build one soon. I just really want to get into gliders.
Cuts through the air nicely, but mind the camera operator! BTW do you know where I could find a Westwings Lancer kit or even just a plan? Google came up blank.
The CG on most fixed wing aircraft tends to be around 1/3 of the depth of the wing from the leading edge where it joins the fuselage. This is probably no different.
Because there are only two surfaces, not three, the idea is that it causes less drag. But each surface has to be a bit bigger so i don’t really think it really makes much difference.
I bought mine 40 years ago! It's from a German manufacturer WIK but they went out of business years ago. FLYFLY make a model of the Salto but its a little larger than this and has Foam wings.

Good luck! It’s great fun flying a DLG.

Yet another peaceful morning with my morning coffee watching this, Thank you!
I love that turquoise, yellow color combination! Beautiful plane.

I have one Bob. I’m willing to sell it!
Beautiful flight. You have some awesome planes. Keep up the great videos

Everytime I'm on that beach I look up to the left in hope.
Heh. Where is it?
this cliff is just legendary
@@bend1483 John has said it's near Perranporth, England
Flies like its big brother!
I think there's a legal requirement for this glider to be looped.
Great video...it looks like the Salto does not like slow very much
Thanks John lovely glider love the colour combo very smart
I'll bet that's a hand full to fly .
Slicing your way through the waves of wind . Awsome !
I watch all your videos and wonder how many you’ve lost?? So awesome!!
Best way to spend your free time :)
I know which cliff you're flying on, I found on google maps :)
Just, Cool !
Gorgeous, simple and pure pleasure!
Thanks John, Compliments to your cameraman/woman! Always a joy to watch!
Thank you!
What a smooth flyer!!!
V tail, i love it. I've build v tail model of bonanza. Btw, yours is great model

Fast & High looked cool!
It's very beautiful.

True. I’ll have to get that sorted!
Awesome
Lovely looking glider.
Great flyer. What's the wing span and weight of that Salto?
Nice job....That huge beach, devoid of a single soul, people missing their Holidays and the sunshine...sad really.
Nice!

there are A-Tails, right?
Well if you watch the way birds fly like I do, such as crows and starlings, ect. That's why I mentioned it...
Another great looking glider. Where do you get all your kits and plans from.

@@SlopeRCGliders which glider would you recommend as a first build.

I think you will be lucky to find one! The kits aren’t produced anymore and the plans aren’t available to download..
@@SlopeRCGliders OK ta. Thx for keeping us entertained.
Were is the CG on that beauty?!
The CG on most fixed wing aircraft tends to be around 1/3 of the depth of the wing from the leading edge where it joins the fuselage. This is probably no different.
Measure the cord of the wing. Divide by three. Then divide by four. This will give you a rough c of g of the wing.
I usually fly my gliders with the CG 33% back from the leading edge so I want to know we’re he likes his.
@@mithrandir6283 33% = 1/3.
Is there an advantage of a V tail over a T tail or conventional tail?

If I may ask Who makes it and can they be bought nowadays?

Would love to see some on board footage....maybe a camera for in flight someday?
There are a few videos on my channel with onboard footage.
John Woodfield RC Gliders looks like I need to watch more of your library! Thanks!
Is this the old Wik Model Salto?
I’ve no idea. It’s one I got second hand, half built. I don’t know who it’s made by.
@@SlopeRCGliders This seems to be really fine flying glider.
