Cassidy and Monty both ditched with significant winning records. The next coach will be thinking 'I have two years max - even if we win most of the time, I'll be out'. This is before we consider that the current roster is weak, with very little on the horizon. Strange times ahead.

Actually, Cassidy was here for six years. Players stopped listening.

@@artistseye1 Monty didn't get six. They just set a new bar. The point remains re: Cassidy's record, and he's been vindicated with his SC win.

The Bruins have gotten slowly worse since Montgomery took over. I am originally from Maine and used to watch him play at the University there but as the Bruins coach he has not been good. The main problem is his incessant line changes. He inherited a #1 record breaking team and then when a bunch of players got traded, he started switching lines to find 'chemistry'. The problem is that he kept switching them and never let any lines play for 10 games or so to gel and learn each other's play style. Little things like skating speed, pass speed, position preference, shooting hand, etc. matter when you are playing on a line and if you are constantly being put with new people, you can't learn all that in just a game or two. They need to make some lines, stick with them for ten games, win or lose, then tweak the lines if needed. That's coaching 101 and I can't understand why Jim couldn't stop messing with the lines and just let them gel.

Yes, let's get back to defense!
Getting to the Cup in 2019 with run and gun offense was a fluke for that team. 2011 win was defense. 2013 even was defense until they tried to match Chicago's offense when they got to the Finals. Bruins win Cups with defense.

This was a panic move. Firing one of the best coaches in the league will bite the Bruins down the road. The team has many issues, one being goaltending. This is more of a GM problem than a coach problem.

Firing the coach the day after your first non sell out is a cynical move and i hope this one bites you in the ass just as quickly as the Cassidy dismissal. Don Sweeney is failing Bruins nation. Looks like you might need help in Nutrition, Conditioning and Confidence departments?
