Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth successfully builds on 'Yakuza: Like A Dragon', evolving into a sequel that is both extensive and emotionally rich. While it keeps some of the series' quirks and doesn't fully embrace a customizable RPG format, the narrative and adventures it presents are deeply engaging, humorous, and heartfelt. I just wish there was some Hawaiian representation incorporated in the marketing and promotion of the game instead of influencers and celebrities that couldn’t care less about our home.

As for the changes of names of locations, this also applies to the Japanese based locations as well. For example, Hamakita Park in the game is called Yamashita Park in real life.
Location name-changing has been part and parcel of Yakuza/Like a Dragon since day one. Kamurocho is Kabukicho IRL.
And Isezaki Ijincho is Isezakichō IRL ^^
This a great review, I agree with the whole missed opportunity of not having Hawaii influencers representation in the game, but to be completely honest, I was so engaged in the game that I haven’t noticed. Being originally born and raised in Hawaii I was so busy pointing out the small things, like what the actual street names were, what actual shops are located in certain areas, running around Ala Moana. It just felt like I was back at home. I’m really happy to see local representation in the game, from Matsumotos to Hilo Hattie’s to even the ABC store. To me I was really really hoping they’d incorporate PIDGIN more, but the closest I hear pidgin is from the Taxi Cab drivers. If you ever ride the taxi cab, not from the map or smart phone, you can hear the taxi driver talking pidgin. It made me smile. Again, great review and showing the representation from Hawaii.
Love this review. I couldn’t believe they had no Hawaiian girls in the dating app mini game. That was such a missed opportunity!
Thank you for the review and your local insights, that was really interesting. The marketing campaign for this game with clueless influencers is a shame indeed. Keep up the great work and greetings from Germany.
Thank you my friend and I’m glad you enjoyed the review. It’s very odd to me how they went about their marketing for this game. I’m hoping the next entry they do better and not repeat the same mistakes
I swear this series is like virtual tourism, which is great for those who can't travel to these spots due to whatever reason
I really like the steps this game has taken, moving to other places than just Japan, but I love your idea about bringing in local celebrities and connecting with the community in a way that that makes the game a celebration of that locale. Great video!
Awesome review. Yeah, I do agree would have been pretty cool to get more Hawaiian representations. I also found it cool that Ichiban is half Hawaiian and half Japanese by blood.
i love that they collabed with so many places and restaurants!! it kinda makes me happy to see that the matsumoto shirts got sold out very quickly in stores, goes to show the love for the franchise as a whole :')
also i ordered my shirt just in time so im excited to own one!!
This is the kind of perspective I was looking for. Most of the takes I found online were either from people who visited Hawaii at one point and the people who I found from Hawaii were mostly just praising the game or laughing at the various things wrong with being able to fish in the Ala Wai. I did find it odd that they never considered advertising to locals. I mostly heard about it through word of mouth so the word is still getting out.
I also found it interesting that they made Ichiban part Hawaiian. I don't think they'll do anything with that but it was interesting regardless.
Super cool! Loved seeing all the locations irl and the Hawaii-specific collabs. Thanks for sharing your perspective as a local.
Thanks for sharing your perspective as a Hawaiian! I wondered my entire playthrough about how the game would seem from a Hawaiian perspective so this is awesome!
I think this is by far one of the coolest reviews for the game, and at least to me your points were spot on and level headed and no over sensationalized. I totally agree with the promotion, Sega airballed that one. Xqc was not the right man for the job IMO, but I do hear that perhaps he got more eyes on it that wouldn't have come from LAD specific channels. It's cool to see that they actually did tie ins with local businesses, but I agree they should have brought some actual Hawaiians on board. Great take anyways, loved the video
I'm from Maui and never played a yakuza game before this one, bought it just for the hawaiian setting. I haven't spent much time in Honolulu outside of a school trip back in the day but even for me I loved seeing ABC store as the item shop. I thought they nailed the vibe, and them talking about homelessness and gang issues blew my mind. Plus never in my life did I think I'd see loco moco in a AAA mainstream video game.
Loving the game and love hearing your review! Having come to Hawaii a few years ago for work the issue of Hawaii and it's culture serving as a beautiful -location- but with minimal visibility of Local people is definitely a big oversight even in American projects. The series has not been afraid to highlight thorny social and cultural issues as this game itself shows but hopefully future games and other media set here will be better about including the perspective of the people who infused these islands with such a rich culture.
Great video. I’ll do my best to spread it. I am sure if this game was made 25 years ago, the teachers strikes happening at the time would’ve been prevalent as well. I have family on my mom’s side in Hawaii, and they love how Hawaii is being portrayed in this game.
Thanks for showing the irl location and collabs
Great video Mekel - good job!
Bruddah I love your review and the fact you went to all those places is cool but ya know what I need for the follow up review. One in pigeon english bruh. Don't get me wrong your review was very well put together. But I need one review that speaks to me. One with ... you know da kine ... you know what I mean yah. If you do one I'll sub kay, Mahalo.
Awesome review! I still haven't finished the game but I found it very strange that there are basically no Hawaiian people in it, so I went looking for this kind of video. Plus I got a tour of the real city (which yeah, is not one to one, but so is Kabukichō and Kamurocho).
Amazing Review Man✨
This game is super Outstanding🔥
Maybe in the next one they'll add a local as a new party member.
Edit: Wait! I forgot that Tomizawa is a local.
Man now that you said it, it's such a big missed opportunity. Got nothing against Druski, i think XqC has no soul but nothing personal, they are just people who have no idea what LaD or Honolulu even is.
Same thing happened with Ishin! when they called a bunch of english speaking influencers like Nyanners(?) and some wrestler(??)
I'm sure they're all cool people but instead of wasting money and resources on that they could have done something for the fans and for the people.
I'm sure the celebrities you mentioned would have been stoked to be in a game all about Hawaii, even if just as a recording on a playlist similar to that japanese reporter from the start of the game.
You could listen to that stuff while going about your business
Maybe get more recordings and hear them talk about the crazy stuff Ichi and his party are doing around Honolulu
I'm not from hawaii, but I also found the representation of hawaii to be rather lacking. The amount of hawaiian culture and people in the main narrative and substories is extremely small. I think the game is great, but the very touristy feel of hawaii was pretty disappointing
what a cool review!
Wow, this is awesome. ❤
Wow thanks for your dedication to actually went out, visit and showing those places to us. Too bad about the Hawaiian's presentation tho.
18:36 thats true i mean its like if rs games would decide makin a gta happen in tokyo and every japanese speakin a perfect fluent american english. im from germany but i had kinda the same thoughts it would be way more immersive and i love it learning things and culture about a country in a videogame .420 peace
i was ok with playing the English dub until the first "Ichiban is bad at English" joke. Then i had to switch it.
What's your opinion on your story?
Fantastic review. I fully agree with the influencer stuff, man. I hated it in Ishin! and it all felt so out of place. I don't get having Drewski promo it because he focuses on shooters, so, are they trying to get other types of players in? I kinda get V-Tubers as they're the in-thing in younger demographics. It makes me wonder just how GTA6 is going to stay relevant given how much has changed since 5. LaD can do that because they release so often.
It's their first forray into other countries so I give them a little leeway, however, I expected more... Hawai'ians. I think they stuck with Japanese stuff to keep Japanese players comfy while simultaneously showing American and Hawai'ian culture and how they can intermix. I appreciate the work and research that went into making this area pop though.
Also, man, do they see Americans as *fat as hell* lol. The size of some NPCs is stupid, or maybe we need more self-reflection, ha.
13:06 dude I was so confused 😅😅😅
Are the marketing choices really baffling or hard to understand? They want to sell their game. I’ve never heard of your examples of Hawaiian celebs but I’ve heard of tpain and xqc
So then what you’re saying is Exploiting Hawaii and Hawaiian culture without showcasing or including Hawaiians is ok?
''I’ve never heard about local hawaiian celebs'', and thats the reason why you WOULD include them because you'd be giving back to the community in exchange for using our home as a backdrop
@@MekelKasanova what I wrote is what I meant - that it’s very clear to me what their reasoning was. I’m not passing judgment on that just commenting on the fact that you said in your video you couldn’t fathom what the reason could be
@csrjjsmp what you wrote is you explaining and being ok with Hawaii and Hawaiian exploitation. You’ve never heard of the businesses included in the game and yet they are there so why would it have been hard to include actual Hawaiians in a game going by your logic?
I’ll wait
@@MekelKasanova oh so you weren’t actually baffled and were just looking for someone to fight with? Well I wish you luck in finding someone else to take you up on that
@@csrjjsmp you clearly are getting emotional. I asked you a question by way of your logic and you’re not answering so idk why you assume I’m trying to fight you. I asked a question and instead of answering you got combative and dismissive.
