David’s chord subs and rhythm playing is always so enlightening. It’s like ohhhh that’s how he’s hearing the tune. So complex and “simple” (not meant in a negative way!) at the same time
This is just great! I’d seen David at a few small house concerts, gosh, probably 20 years ago now, in Santa Cruz, CA, put on by Steve Palazzo and maybe Sylvan Music. I remember being completely drawn in by his humbleness and quirky sense of humor, and then the room just sort of floating when he was playing, like he was having this stream of consciousness conversation with his guitar and unafraid(is that a word?) to take chances by almost forcing himself into uncharted territory, then his personality would shine through and bring him back home. I’m thinking one of the shows was with mandolin player Matt Flinner as well. It’s so much fun to watch and listen to these videos now, and I think David is a great bandleader. He’s surrounded himself with solid, likeminded musicians, and you can pick up on his irrepressible desire to want to create heartfelt music, yet that sense of risk and *hey, let’s just pick and have some fun* flows through it all! David, even though I’m sure you don’t remember me at all, I sure am glad to see you still at it and I appreciate your music and wonderful band! 👊🏼✌🏻
@@cajunguitarman have you ever seen a Bluegrass band since the birth of that genre perform with a mask before? It’s not something you see every day. Don’t take things so seriously!
Looks like David is playing a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model...which is based on Clarence White's old Martin that Tony played after Clarence was killed. There is a great interview with David Grier on Otis Gibbs' channel where David talks about he and his dad hanging out with Clarence White and his brother Roland when he was a kid. It's worth listening to. David is a good story teller and it is very entertaining.

I was at a Phillips, Grier, and Flinner living room show in Santa Cruz around the same time, I bet we were there together!
nice pickin'( as always) & singing this time! more please..
DG performing with a mask. Signs of the times!
It’ll certainly give the timeframe away when people watch it in a few years
wearing masks goes way back years and its not part of the sign of the times. stop taking things out of context.

@@greekflatpicker There's always THAT guy...Never seen masks in the USA until 2020 Unless you were getting surgery. Regardless, this was a fun tune
@@Mattwingateguitar LOL
High energy band most certainly. David still an amazing flat top guitar picker. Very nice runs.
So great David!
You guys make me laugh out loud! Thanks for your talent and sharing with us. I love it.
Love this
Wonderful 😊
Great Band, playing so great!
Do y'all know how friggin' hard it is to play the fiddle with a mask on (or off)? Stuart, you da man!
A ha, new verses !!

All above average.
A lot of good players out there, but this is the kid Clarence took by the hand. Incredible phrasing.
Smoking’ hot boys!

I hope Cory gets better. He seems to be in such pain.
Looks like they're preparing for the best sounding train robbery of all time with those masks...awesome!
Those masks are an insult to EVERYTHING common sense.

Great great guitar playing of course but really weak vocals. Not the most memorable performance
Whassup with the masks boys?
There was a pandemic at the time, everywhere except the rock you were under.

Are they having a good time? I can't see because of their masks....
A better time than someone getting his panties twisted over a mask.
Can't see the entire video. Enough masks in the streets, no need to see this in a musical show.
Lol. It’s in the in thing. I’ve never been much for popular trends either
So don’t watch. Do you bitch about what’s on tv with the remote in your hand?
