I was fortunate to see Willie Dixon at the Long Beach Blues Festival back in 1983. To me he’s right up there with Robert Johnson.

Had the terrific good fortune to visit Chess Studios a few years ago...
"on duty" was Willie's grandson---amazingly he brought out the original "bass fiddle" for us to see...and hold!!
Still amazed at the music history that instrument must have witnessed!

He was such a cool dude, he let me hold it too and was like I just remember him as my grandfather who got me kicked out of preschool for fighting 🤣🤣 it was cool for the descendent of one of the all time greats to be keeping the spirit alive… he also told us a story about being drank under the table by bb king 🤣🤣

Ele trabalhou com Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Koko Taylor, Little Milton, Eddie Boyd, Jimmy Witherspoon, Lowell Fulson, Willie Mabon e Memphis Slim.

Some seem confused about who Willie Dixon really was. He played bass on just about every record produced at Chess Records it seems, including most of the Chuck Berry rock and roll classics. He was also a prolific song writer, with his compositions being recorded by everyone from Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Rivers to Muddy Waters.

Rory Gallagher played "Seventh son" and "Wand Dang Doodle" during shows but didn't record them. I don't remember he named Willie Dixon among the blues men who influenced him, he payed homages to Bo Diddley but he could have done for Willie Dixon too. We found much things alike in Rory's cover of WDD

Great post and wonderful video. Thank you! I was lucky enough to see him in the 70's. He stood in for BB King. People left the audience when they announced he was the replacement...they missed the show of a lifetime. He arrived in a huge, old, car on the stage...maybe even pink. He rocked the place down. I'm so glad I missed BB for once. It gave me the chance of a lifetime. Thanks for the great music & fun memories. My best, Moppet

Wow,thouWillie!WithJamesCotton on the HotHarmonica!Take me now,Lord,to hear this BlastinBluesBand again, wherever they went!Yes,when my time is spent, and I'm done with worldly fun in the sun,and paying petty rent, this is the music to "heal the sick, raise the dead, make the little girls talk out of their head"!Way to swing&wing it,Willie&Company! The only reason a white boy like me has the humble high honor of playin the blues on the harmonica,,and.singin these songs,is because these National, and world wide Treasures, lived, wrote, played, and sang these, and so many songs like them! How lucky do I be,me& everybody who can still listen to brilliant blues like this stellar stuff?Got to see James Cotton play in a big old barn in the early 70's,in New England,on some College campus, watchin the steam billow from James' harmonica,on that wild winter day,way back when!Lucky me,baby!Lettuce grow Peace plus carrots,"cause like Willie said so wisely,"It don't Make Sense,If We Can't make Peace",Lettuce grow Peace plus carrots,MarkO'Harps!
