TADA! [And yes, I was referencing AMG- “B**** Better Have My Money” at the start of the video]. This is my process and I hope it helped others get an idea of how they might be able to approach face/body painting. Aside from my face and neck, I’ll be painting my arms and chest. I will NOT be painting my arms for this cosplay and will be wearing tights instead. I DO have a gem, but I’m looking at possibly getting another one so I’ll hold off on revealing that until I’ve settled on one.
Thanks for watching!

Your face is so perfect for Amethyst! Your face is so round and cute, your nose is too! And your eyes are really pretty! I'm all for people of any body shape and type cosplaying who they want, but girl you do amethyst so well
Thank you! I've been thinking of re-doing this tutorial with the new things I do. I'm glad even some years later, this tutorial still holds up!
Thank you for giving POC the courage to cosplay!!! I totally wanna see more 💞
Cassidy Williams Thank you! I've heard a lot of comments back from other black and poc cosplayers and convention fans and I'm so glad they feel comfortable doing this when they see someone else doing it.
I'm headed to a con next week but I plan on working out a Lumpy Space Princess cosplay as well as looking into a few others to make posts about. :) My Facebook and Instagram have the usual updates.
You sure you aren't the real Amethyst? Your facial structure is spot on!
°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° thank you!
Gurl you have such similar features to Amethyst it's crazy!! She's perfect for you!!
You've got to be one of the cutest Amethyst's anyone's ever seen.
BROOO THAT LOOKS AMAZING YOU R A PERFECT AMETHYST!
Sophia De Valdez Ahhh thanks, man!
Sophia De Valdez I say man to everyone, lol. I am so sorry.
SpiffyPenguin haha, they did call you bro to start tho
luna rafael
I have a burn scar on my right arm and the paint covers it neatly. The key to painting is building the coverage up. You never wanna swipe or drag the paint over the skin. As for dry patches, I myself do not have eczema but I do have a random dry spot on my face above my cheek. It's annoying but I managed to get it covered with layering on the paint. What I usually do after the first two full layers is another touch up layer on trouble spots that just didn't get covered the way the others did.
*Be careful when using ointments or lotions for your skin before painting though. Since this paint (Mehron Paradise paint) is water activated, it might not stick to any skin with heavy ointments, lotions, or other oils very well.
Is it okay if I use any type of body paint? I'm really hyped up about cosplaying as Amethyst but it's my very first time cosplaying so Im not so sure about some things.
what was the song at the end by kevin macleod
SpiffyPenguin I smile a lot so will there be a lot of creases in the paint?
YOU'RE THE PERFECT AMETHYST!!!
I just want to thank you so much for this video!!!! You are the first Black cosplayer I have seen do Amethyst makeup. Im doing Amethyst this weekend. It will be my 1st time cosplaying and I am terrified. You just made me a little less nervous.
Never be nervous. You will be wonderful and I am so glad I was able to help.
this is perfect you look just like her omg.
Thank you :)
This is the most helpful video I've found for putting on full face paint. You've really saved my skin!!! 😬
Glad to have helped!
"You're gunna look like kindergarten artwork" I see what you did there
Hey girl just want to let you know how thankful I am for this tutorial. I want to cosplay Lumpy Space Princess this year for Halloween but when I went to buy mehron makeup they had Wild Orchid violet and purple and nobody would tell me what they used in their review pictures! So thank you a lot for letting me know which purple you used!
That paint is so pigmented it’s insane!
Beautiful and helpful, awesome work!
SuperMaryFace Thanks! You're like a cosplay senpai to me.
Girl you're identical to amethyst, lacking only the most detailed color wig and eyes .eres like , I'm sure you could win a contest congratulations Add oto video with the whole cosplay
I'm doing Amethyst for Halloween and this is by far the best tutorial I have found! You rock my dear!
Glad to help! Thank you!
You look gorgeous in general and I love your cosplay of amethyst this is the best one I've seen!
I love this tutorial! It gives me a bit more insight for what I need to get for Mina Ashido from BNHA when I cosplay her. I love your Amethyst cosplay as well!
Defrosted Heiress same here :)
You are absolutely gorgeous! And your tutorial is very helpful, thank you for sharing what paint you use! I'm working on a sardonyx cosplay, and it will help me immensely! I love your Amethyst, keep on rocking! :)
(oh god no pun intended)
Been looking at cosplay body paint tuts the last couple days almost religiously. I'm super impressed, you did a kick ass job. Keep up the good work! And a tip from one cosplayer to the next, use an elmers glue stick to flatten your eyebrows (it comes off easy no worries), an acrylic paint/ super pigmented liner/ lipstick/ ect. to paint them on. They show up better, still keep the hair texture (depending on how many glue layers) and just make it a shit ton easier in general (the light ones especially) . :3
+Nicole Greener Hey, thanks! I've actually known about elmer's (way safer than a crazier intense glue) and the main reason I stayed away was because, I worried that my paint won't go over that well. But I've actually found a nice pale Colourpop liner that should work on my brows and I'll test it with glue and without (if I get the gel liner in a pot I can do my brows like I normally do). Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated.
Thank you so much, I’m doing this for my Spinel cosplay ♡
Thank you so much T-T I had so many questions as to how to do Amethyst's makeup and your video helped so much! I'll be cosplaying her at Tekko :D
oh my god you look EXACTLY like amethyst i am shook
Finally! I've been looking for the perfect shade of paint for my Lotor cosplay, thank you so much!
Lotorrrrr
ZANE CHAN FOR LIFE 👀
You make a great Amethyst! And the reference at the begining was hillarious xD
*****
I love when people get the reference. It's a pretty old rap song lol
HONESTLY the most perfect Amethyst. You are so so SO cute. I would love to see the full cosplay and in full makeup!
Thank you! For sharing this, I honestly needed help with this cosplay but most of the videos were okay, but yours is legit awesome with the colour and you didn't glam it up too much like most people do, so thank you❤❤ hopefully I can get this done in 12 days😬😬😅
You make such a good Amethyst omg
+Jake English Awww thank you. ♡
SpiffyPenguin
You're very welcome -u-
i agree completely holy sh
You make a great Amethyst :D
Omg thank you! I've been looking for a video like this T^T I use to think that if I did body paint I'd be hard sense I have dark skin but this video proved me wrong so now I'll try this uwu! It looks so good on you, keep up le amazing work
SAME! I was like wow, there’s really no dark-skinned cosplay tutorials on YT🤔🧐
They are there but you have to DIG to find ones as detailed as this one. Excellent job!
You make an amazing amethyst and an amazing tutorial! Thank you for explaining every little detail, it really helps!
Super glad it helped! I'm thinking of doing another body paint tutorial, this was really fun!
You did great! I saw your Amazon review for that paint, and I definitely got it. I love your Amethyst cosplay!
Awww thank you! Glad to have helped.
you are a super cute amethyst! i love it
Erica Imoisi Thank you!
You should've Done Smoky Quartz! You dont even need makeup just Wig you Look just Like her!!!
When I did this cosplay, Smoky didn't exist yet. The second I saw her though I wondered if I should give it a try, I just might!
Ctcon?! I'll hope to see you there. I'll be cosplaying Garnet and Chel. A friend will be also cosplaying Amethyst! Thank you for making this video c:
Misha nekomimi No problem! Hope it helped and It'll be cool to see you!
Wow, what a small world. I go to Connecticon as Amethyst, too. Thanks for the video! I hope that it helps me out. It'll be my forth year cosplaying as her, and I can never get the body paint right. So here's to hoping that it works!
First off, you killed this cosplay so hard! It was amazing. Second, how much of the body paint did you end up using? I need to order make-up and was trying to figure out how much to get
Now that I've been doing this for a few years, it really varies. I recommend buying one extra if you can. I've never used one whole container on myself while doing face/arms/chest but better to be safe than sorry! Also, I used the PRO size.
Thanks so much, Spiffy! I'm super excited to do my cosplay and really appreciate your video tutorial and the response to my question. I hope you have a killer 2018
spiffypenguin thanks for the video very precise on the things u used.i was going to cosplay amethyst for kentokyocon two months from know so I bought what u mentioned I'm glad it works for u hope that it works for me too cutie
Glad to help!
"Or you'll look like kindergarten artwork" IT SHOULD ANYWAY BECAUSE ITS AMETHYST AM I RIGHT

Thank you for this! I'm doing face paint for tonight's Halloween costume (Princess Carolyn) & needed a refresher. xo!
Wow! This is awesome! I have searched the world of RUclips and I have finally come across a cosplayer of color. Thank you so much for this video! O.O I was seriously beginning to give up hope until I came across this video. Thanks for rekindling the fire in me and confidence to finally have the guts to go out and cosplay. ALSO I thank you for the demonstration of this magical powder! I'm so psyched to try it out now. - bow- thanks once again
+Kuroobi5 You're very welcome, I'm glad you feel inspired to cosplay.
This is great, I'm planning on my first ever cosplay as Lumpy Space Princess this year and this tutorial was so helpful. Thank you.
+Lithy Forbes That's so cool, she's definitely on my list of characters to cosplay some time in the future! Glad I could help!
Great tutorial and great job! I really like how you break your process down, and you look so cute and cool!
Lara Richardson Thank you!
Omgg *0* best amethyst ever
Absolutely gorgeous!!
+LankySandwich003 Thank you!
This is an awesome tutorial. I am very much interested in doing Lapis Lazuli, but I am unfamiliar with body paint. This looked very simple enough and your cosplay totally rocks!
Omg, you look amazing! You did such a good job and totally inspired me to cosplay Ame
+OffendReason Glad I could help! Don't hesitate to show me pictures on the Facebook!
YOU LOOK SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
+invalidimput Thank you! I appreciate it!
I've never used Mehron before and your tutorial put all my worries at ease for my Amethyst cosplay!
+Mlauclover K. I'm glad! Water activated paints are nothing to be scared of. You can always add more water, just start with a little water and build up from there.
You are a gorgeous Amethyst! Love the tutorial thanks for posting
Ooo yay! I love it! This will help me so much in my first body paint attempt when I cosplay as Gamora at Kamicon this year!
I wanna cosplay Gamora too :D did you do it yet and if so, how did it turn out? I'm a total newbie to body paint lol
I wanna cosplay Gamora too :D did you do it yet and if so, how did it turn out? I'm a total newbie to body paint lol
Great tutorial! I love you for this & i promptly liked & subscribed. Lol I'm going to cosplay amethyst for librari-con.
Jasmine Grimes That's awesome! Be sure a picture with me on facebook!
This is so AMAZING. Thank you for making this video.
I have just impulse bought an amethyst wig, so I guess I'm cosplaying her and your tutorial helped a lot because I was really wondering what I'd do about contouring. Thanks :)
ChristinaSk Glad it helped!
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! Great reference for my twi'lek cosplay:)
just finished watching. wow. I'm gonna do my test this weekend. I hope I come out as pretty as you.
+SailorXtasy I'm sure you'll look great!
Thank you for this! This was really helpful I love your channel
Thank you!
I too will be cosplaying Amethyst and I will definitely check out the paint! I was just ondering if you bought or made your gem. I have been searching for a place to find gems and I was just wondering about yours. also you are a perf Amethyst
I have really bad pores, especially on my cheeks.. what do you recommend for pores? If anything 'cause I did try this, but not on my face but I've done other paints and my pores pretty much killed it.... So, I'm just wondering if you have a problem, or had, a problem with pores and what you did or would recommend someone to do to help that.
+Lekisha Andino I myself don't have large pores or many pore issues. The best I could think of is possibly finding a pore minimizer that contains no oil for this paint. Every paint is different so I can't speak for everyone's methods but with this water based paint, I know anything oil could make the paint act funny on the skin.
I did the makeup! Sadly, I only had the smaller makeup container, 4 grams. :x But it was enough to do my face and use the rest on my arms and chest, though it looks a little washed out. :x But here's the pic of my face. x'D Maybe you'd be able to see it. I only used one layer as it came on pretty thick on my skin. It did come out awesome though and some people even told me that I was the cutest Amethyst. T_T Don't know if you could see my link... but here goes: scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13335820_1223617481011630_3254669612951871067_n.jpg?oh=48edf18009e2737828d4edb5d9fd6597&oe=580D6799
Mariko It looks like you did a good job! Did it feel comfortable?
It did, very much so. :D It was my first time doing facepaint too which gave me a massive confidence boost as I was kinda scared to do so myself.@_@ But your tutorial was a lot of help, thank you so much!
Mariko Glad it helped and glad you had a good time!
Oh no, you're cute! You did great with the make up. I think you have the perfect face for Amethyst!
You looked so pretty! i loved the gloss on the purple paint c:
+Rikkie Thank you! And yes, the lipgloss and paint worked well together.
oh my god you are so pretty wtf quit it
YOU KILLED IT!! THAT WIG IS NICE!
+BeautifulBeginnings Thank you!
That opening was so perfect hahaha, this is amazing!
Alicia Livingston Yeeees, thank you for noticing the reference.
I read your description and I was wondering if you have a review of arm tights?(: I’m gonna go as Mina from my hero academia to sakuracon in April and I don’t know if I want to be painting my whole body pink
Kaseekupkakes - Agreed! I’m going as Indigo from the webcomic Gloomverse and I don’t want to paint my whole body lavender either.
Your going to Sakura con ? :) I've been thinking of going this year ! Have gone many many years but have been thinking of not going this year since I have gained so much weight 😭 was actually thinking of going as amethyst for at least one day then going as star butterfly another day !
Lauren Montgomery don’t let your weight stop you from going! I’ve gained a lot of weight but con has me so excited I couldn’t care less! Remember: any body can cosplay :)
This is the only AWESOME and GOOD cosplay there is of Amethyst. Ty.
This is so perfect and well done!! I was wondering the specifics of what you did for your eyebrows because you seemed to be able to cover them really nicely!
Shane MacLaren I used a white eyelienr pencil and did my brows the way someone would normally do their eyebrows.
I'm cosplaying Sapphire and Sardonyx for Ohayocon in January! I was wondering if you had any tips or something particular I should know? You seem like the perfect person to ask about anything cosplay/con related!
You're really natural on camera, and this video was amazingly easy to watch!
+Ceci Aweome :D Thank you!
perfect amethyst
You are such a perfect Amethyst!!! Your so pretty OMG
Johanna Bascom Aw, thank you! I appreciate that.
Does the paint not get in the hair? Also can you do a vid with white facepaint? When I've done it it goes all patchy
This is super helpful, thank you for such a detailed example!
PERFECT!!!
I love your videos! You should definitely do more cosplay videos, this one is great. :)
IronicallyMarco Thank you! And I certainly will! I'm on a bit of a vacation/regrouping break after the con I went to, but I am planning more cosplay and videos to film soon! I post updates to the Facebook page!
This is perfect reference to use for my first body paint cosplay, also as Amethyst! You did such a great job! I'm going to sport my look for Anime LA in January next year. Thank you so much for your video!
Good luck! Post pics to Twitter or Instagram and tag me!
+SpiffyPenguin ok i read down below that you weren't going to done your hands and hands but i will be doing this cosplay and i will be doing my arms and hands do you have any tips on how to do that or should i just do the tights for my hands and arms?
+Savannah Gambino What I meant by that here is that I wouldn't be doing my hands or arms in the video. I actually did do my hands and arms for this cosplay and I did it the same way I did my face. (I actually used much less paint!)
But I will give you a tip about alternatives to painting. You can make sleeves from nylon stockings for cosplay that are easier to move around in.
+SpiffyPenguin thanks you I'm looking up videos right now that as we speek haha thank you so much for this helpful tutorial i have dark skin as well
+SpiffyPenguin I'll tell you how my cosplay works out when i finish it :3
+Savannah Gambino Awesome! I'm glad I could help. When you share, share it to my wall on the Facebook!
I really really like this tutorial! For the paint, would you prefer the mehron paradise one to the mehron water-based one (the one that comes in the tube)?
So glad I came across your channel! Great video!
MissChris15 Thanks!!
YOU'RE SO BEAUTIFUL I'M CRYING SO HARD
+Karkat Vantas I am humbled by the love, I really am.
Just a few questions about the paint. Does it crack after a white? Does it feel dry? How long does it last? If possible, could you put the link of where you bought it? Sorry for asking so many questions! 😳😅
while*
+Gir (FluffySempai) I didn't experience any cracking myself, and I haven't heard of anyone experiencing cracking with this paint. It feels dry once it dries if that makes sense lol. It lasted for me about 4 hours before I changed out of it. It looked fine then but I was just so tired of having it all on and doing so much that I decided I'd taken enough pictures and went to change into regular clothes lol. (although on my arms I experienced a weird separation of color after being out in the sun in that 4 hour period. It turned a weird blotchy mix of gray and purple.)
And I don't link to where I purchased it after someone was very rude to me over an error on their end. (They went where I bought mine but bought a different shade than what I'd listed). In the description I state the brand and color, Mehron Paradise Paint in 'Purple'. There are colors such as Mauve, Violet, and so on- but the one I bought is specifically called Purple.
+Gir (FluffySempai) Hope that answered everything!
+SpiffyPenguin That did! Thank you for answering!
+Gir (FluffySempai) No problem, happy cosplaying!
This looks amazing !! I have tried that barrier spray but it leaves spray marks on my paint and I was like nooo! I dont know what I'm doing wrong. Doing upper torso body paint.
Itzel Guerrero try spraying from a distance! And don’t be afraid to try other brands, over the years I’ve stopped using barrier spray almost completely. Makeup sprays like Mac fix+ work so well for these paints too.
with water-activated paint im having trouble applying it evenly and doing touch ups later because it results in some spots having more paint than others and its really visible (especially after sweating/crying it off on accident). do others have that problem too? can i avoid it anyhow?
Celine Gerlach my skin is oily and i have a condition that leads me to sweat easier so when im applying mehron it never stays :"""( i really want to find a face paint that works for me
@@strawberrywheels you could use cream paint like kryolan supracolor which is waterproof because its grease based. it rubs off on everything you touch though.
The only way to truly keep things from rubbing off with water (tears/sweat/etc) you’d have to use alcohol activated body paints, which are super expensive. The thing thats worked best for me is just layering a lot like the video says. But even then I haven’t had the best experience with that 🤷🏻♂️
Hey there, you look awesome! this year will be the first year I use body paint, i was wondering how much smearing on things I should expect. I will be getting ready elsewhere and will be Sadness from Inside Out.
+PuddingLover911 Hey! (I'm actually planning a Sadness cosplay) The Mehron paint is actually very good, I didn't have too many smears. I'd avoid white surfaces if I could help it. And probably any dark colored clothing. (Light colors transfer noticeably to dark colors.)
Woooo, super nice job. You look super cute!
Your back ground music choice was great...👌👌👌👌
Sooooooooooo, I have a question. Ok first, video was very helpful because about the contours thing you mentioned. Frankly I wasn't even thinking of it before watching this video, and now I might do it. But the issue is, the cosplay I want to do is of Flame Princess, from Adventure Time. Her skin is orange. So my question is, what color would be a good contour for orange?
I'd say to play it by ear and test it on your hand or even one part of your face. She's kind of a yellower orange so maybe an orange shadow with a little red
Luz Morales-Fuster Brown or Red depending what you want to go for
oh my gosh.. its so amazing next I will watch rose quarts make up tutorial hehe
Loved this video! Very helpful, very informative. My idea was to be Amethyst and I stumbled upon on you and it was eye opening and great. She was a potential candidate and I decided 2 days before Halloween to go as her. You helped a TON and I a have a cousin that does makeup so this totally worked and we were inspired. Beautiful, helpful and overall great!! I will be tagging you with my 2 day, last minute Amethyst. Thank you again😍😘
+Jermaine Ryan You're welcome! So glad I could help! (I saw the pics on Instagram, I love it!)
thank you so much!!!!! I'm going as amethyst for Halloween and was wanting to find out how to do her make up ;]
I was wondering if you could tell me what arm socks you used ? I am going to attempt a Tristana cosplay from League of Legends and this is the perfect color! Any input would be appreciated in price points and setting tips ! How long does your paint usually last?Amazing video.
I bought mine from a brand called WeLoveColors. But if you search for any light purple or lavender stockings, you should be able to find a nice solid color! My paint lasted for about 4.5 hours the first time I did it, but after doing it again (with more experience in 2016), I managed to get a good 5-6 hours. This is a water based paint so it does require some extra help staying put. I dusted with a white, translucent powder after both the paint and the setting spray had dried.
this is the best tutorial for body paint I have seen thank you so much for this
+misseccentricemily I'm glad it helped! I really thought painting was scary until I just got down and tried it. It's very fun!
Can I ask where did you get that purple dye from?
It's on Amazon
After the paint dried did it rub into your cosplay at any time. Maybe after long wear or just sweating. Also how is it removed? Really pretty by the way.
Thank you! I explain all of it in the video better than I could write it but you can wash it off with regular soap and water. Sweating will make it come off.
Your an amazing amethyst!!!! I'm a stevonnie cosplayer :)
N3rdy Nati0n Thank you! Do you have your cosplay posted anywhere online?
Ya I have a picture on my Instagram ( idk how to link ) my Instagram is @ minimaddiecosplays :3
I also have a ( crappy quality) video on my channel about how I made my shirt and the rest of my cosplay
N3rdy Nati0n I'll check it out! :)
With the coverage on the Mehron, how well do you think it would cover tattoos? I've got a liiittle over three months to plan my Amethyst cosplay and I'm wondering if the makeup will give enough to cover the rather large tattoos on my forearms or if I should try a latex appliance in my skin tone over them.
That's a good question! I personally think they would cover up well considering how opaque I get mine to look but it does also depend on which color you're using. If you're specifically talking about being purple for Amethyst I think you'll be good but there's no harm in googling it! I'm sure there is someone out there who has used mehron over tattoos.
You're super pretty and you make a gorgeous Amythest!! I love seeing other races cosplay, it's so nice
You look so good! Have you thought about making those gloves out of tights so you don't have to paint your arms? I'm going to be amethyst too, & to save time on con-day I'm thinking about making gloves. My only fear is they won't match my face paint
+IAmNobodey The gloves are definitely the way to go and I plan on doing that some time in the future. I just don't have a ton of time right now. But I do have a pair of regular tights from We Love Colors in the shade Lilac. I used those instead of painting my legs and they matched my Mehron paint very well. I'd recommend buying a few pairs that look close just in case!
for a full body Amethyst cosplay, how do you cover your armpits? I'm worried about body paint rubbing off if I put it under my arms but I cant think of how to cover it without my skin showing. Love the video by the way, you look great!
Cara Damas This is the trickiest thing. unfortunately I have no special tips. :(
As we know, skin against skin causes some rub off and I don't have a way of preventing that. The BEST idea I have is the buy a translucent makeup powder from the store and just dust your armpits with it before you go out for the day and that may help keep the paint from really rubbing all the way off.
Aside from that, maybe just pick poses that don't show the under arm too much.
the powder could be a really good idea! I was thinking of maybe wearing a morph suit under the outfit
Cara Damas A lot of people have been asking me if I'd want to invest in one for this and I say by all means, go for it! My main reason for not wanting a morph suit (atm) is because the convention we usually go to is REALLY REALLY hot all the time. Without fail, every year, it's a fire outside lol.
There is a type of spray that holds in the color it's a color lock I think. I used it when I was entirely blue for mystique and then it comes off with soap and water but it should help
