As an American Jew, thank you so much for this episode. Having grown up in the 1950’s and 60’s, I thought the kind of Jew hatred that led to the Holocaust was a thing of the past, only to find out since October 7 that the long arc of Jewish history is coming for us again. When I was growing up my rabbi fought in the Israel’s War of Independence and had an Israeli wife. My current rabbi also has an Israeli wife. I had no idea that rabbis are turning away from Israel. I find that shocking and sad. Israel’s existence is essential to the continued survival and thriving of the Jewish people. I don’t know how any Jew doesn’t understand that. Maybe my generation hasn’t done a good enough job of educating our children about Jewish history. I will always be a staunch Zionist 💕🇮🇱

Today, I teach my kids to be proud of who they are as Jews, and never forget those in our family who died because they were Jews. As a child of Holocaust survivors I was waiting for the litmus test for American Jews ' Tikkun Olam, roughly 18 minutes in. 4.000 years of Jewish history - Cantor Sholom Katz asked the Nazi commander to sing Kaddish for the Jews and himself while they were required to dig their own graves. In the eyes of evil Katz's Jewish voice touched the Nazi commander who then asked Katz to sing at their officers meeting that night. Everyone was killed and Sholom Katz was set free the next morning ( let escape). Rabbi Rachelle and her tambourine and Daniel Gordis do not exhibit the old worldly seeds of Jewish history that has been respected by Empires and leaders throught out our history. Ask the English and French Jews about the current safety in those two countries. Immigration does matter ask the Hindus in Indonesia.

Just to clarify, for people outside of America: this discussion is really only representative of more secular American Jews. For Orthodox Jews in America, we have a very distinct identity. Being Jewish and following our traditions and connection to God is integral to our identity. We care very deeply about our fellow Jews all over the world, including and especially Israel. We are inherently and historically tied to the land. The amount of initiatives, gatherings, and campaigns to support Israel every single time something happens there is astounding. We come together for each other and we have not lost our Jewish identity. We are acutely aware of antisemitism from the time we are small children. This conversation opened my eyes to a different segmant of the population that I have not been so exposed to and it honestly made me very sad. I think it would be helpful to have an episode with someone from the Orthodox or Modern Orthodox Jewish population in America to balance out the perspective.

Very sadly, Mr. Gordis does represent generations of Conservative and Reform rabbis that have led American Jewry for decades. He is far removed from Jewish principles and his type of leadership is why, after generations, most Jews in America consider themselves only culturally Jewish and have minimal connection to it. American Jewry is dying due to lack of interest and intermarriage. This is a rabbi who doesn't appear even to be wearing a yarmulke, with what is he Jewish? Why should a Jew feel close to Isreal if he or she is not close to Judaism? There is, however, one group of American Jews that are very close to Israel. They send their kids to Israel to learn and many couples make the decision to live in Israel. They are the Orthodox Jews and in the coming years they will constitute the majority of American Jewry and they, fortunately, are close to Israel and will advocate for Israel in the poliical realm as well as with funding. The fundamental Jewish value for me, as an american-jew, other than my connection to Israel is tolerance of dissent. The tikkun olam stuff is important, but modern progressivism has become intolerant of dissent, or divergence from orthodoxy in a manner which to me is antithetical to Jewish values. Tolerance of dissent has been a jewish principle the key to our survival for 2000 years, non-proselytization. That's what should differentiate us from liberal protestantism, we may share certain values, but we do not use exlusion tactics or moral shaming to enforce them. What I see from progressivism, SJWs, cancel culture is essentially a morally puritan movement. We should demonstrate values positively by example rather than enforcing them upon the individual.

I tend to think of Israeli Jews as being Indigenous to Israel and Arab Muslims as being indigenous to Arabia. It's that simple and somewhat self-evident. We could get into a big discussion about what 'Indigenous' means and from a certain well-known perspective we would find that human beings, that is homo sapiens, are only indigenous to Africa.
Putting that aside, if we look at the Middle East as a whole I think that we might find that both groups, both Jews and Muslims, are both equally "indigenous" to the Middle East. That being the case, that both groups are equally indigenous to the Middle East, shouldn't they "have to" share? Share the Middle East that is?
Parts of the Middle East used to be called the Orient. Early Islamic art shows Muslims as looking very Oriental. Islam practiced African slavery for 1,400 years, taking twice as many female slaves as male. Perhaps that explains their appearance today.
There are 27 Muslim-only, mostly good-sized, countries on the earth today, and 51 Muslim-majority countries. Why won't they and how can they justify not letting Israel have One country that is about the size of New Jersey?

Gordis has been harshly critical of American Jews who criticize Israeli government policies, sometimes publicly accusing them of either betraying Israel and the Jewish people (as in the case of Rabbi Sharon Brous[5]), having insufficient love for Israel (Rabbi Jill Jacobs[6]) or being a traitor to the Jewish people (Peter Beinart[7]). He has also extended this assessment to rabbinical seminaries and their students.[8

There are American Christians living in Israel and have a RUclips channel called The Israel Guys. They are much more pro Israel, Israel 'right' and Israel communities living in Judea and Sumaria. They are strongly opposed to any American rhetoric or politicians who oppose Israel. Daniel Gordis was definitely moderate compared to these Christians who support Israel.

Daniel Gordis’s accusation that a Rabbinical Assembly member accused Israel of genocide in a rabbinic forum is a complete misunderstanding on his part. As a scholar, Rabbi Gordis is normally a careful reader of texts. This time, somewhat understandably given the circumstances, he was less careful than usual. Excoriating a colleague for having written ‘We’re talking about genocide, people. GENOCIDE,’ Rabbi Gordis clearly understood those words as an accusation regarding Israel’s present war effort. In fact, though, the writer , in a closed forum for members, did not in any way accuse Israel of genocide. He criticized an article advocating a more bellicose approach that had posted by another colleague and said that the article’s view was tantamount to advocating genocide. The expression that drove Rabbi Gordis over the edge was not a criticism of Israeli actions at all, then, but an appeal to colleagues to distance themselves from a call to more aggressive action. What Rabbi Gordis labels an accusation of genocide was nothing of the sort.

What is the *Ruling(s) when the Enemies of the *Mind curse the *Jews ?
Considering that throughout the *Hebrew Bible:
According to the *Rabbinic sources, the term "idolatry" is referred to:
    - as "avodah zarah" which literally means : “foreign worship” or:
"avodat kochavim" translating as : “worship of stars”.
The term used to describe a "idol" is given a pejorative meaning and used,
to describe for instance : non-*Israelite or non-*Jewish divinities:
which are considered to be false or alien *gods.
Such as those *gods of other Nations from whom the *Israelites are,
commanded to separate themselves from in-order to live a righteous life.
Since : the word "idolator" in Hebrew translates as : *A•kum:
    - abbreviated *ov•dey ko•cha•vim u•ma•za•lot.
In a addition the common reference to *idol worshipers means:
*Ko•cha•vim, which is best known as one of the recent *Hebrew Word(s),
of the Day entries, referring to the *stars.
And so, an *idolatrous person is named as an *idolater, based on the:
practice of *worshipping 'idols' and so called idolatry (or idol worship).
For example : *Idolatry is the worship of a 'cult image' or "idol" as:
though it were a deity. In spite of latter 'Idolatry' was also reckoned as:
*avodah zarah, and the *lit translation as : *foreign worship.
Likewise, the term *Yirah, in Hebrew word translated into:
*Awe' in the Bible is *Yirah (יראה) and is pronounced as : *Yir-ah:
and directly translates into the English word *fear.
For instance: this reference of *fear is associated with the:
*fear of the Lord, also with-in the same context means the as:
    the (3) verbs as follows:
    1. Respect,
    2. Reverence,
    3. Worship.
Nevertheless, make no mistake about it, as the term *Yir-ah is strongly:
    - connected to the word referencing the term for 'trembling.'
Keeping that aside, 'Idolatry' weather it is the worship of an idol or idols:
-objects or images, such as: statues, (as the representations of deities):
    - or *gods.
On the other hand in the Bible, an 'idol' is an image or a statue which is:
    - regarded as equal to or greater than *God.
Depicted for example, in the Story of the *Golden Calf in the Book of:
*Exodus. In which describes an incident with a *Golden cow statue:
    - as an idol.
In contrast to the latter: *Story of Golden Calf.
According to *Hindu Scripture(s) these *Divine traits are said to be,
as of a blind binding to one's *Soul in the process of *Cycle of Birth & death.
For instance: keeping one's *Soul confined in this material World in which,
the word 'confines' in this context means of *Maya or Relative Existence.
For example : in *Hindu Scripture(s) especially, the first *3 *Divine traits:
    - are said to pave the way towards hell.
In addition to the first *2 which apparently bring about difficult experiences:
    one faces in one's lives.
For instance : the *Kali Yuga Mantra, in *Hinduism, is the *Fourth,
    - shortest and probably the worst of the *4 *Yugas (World ages).
Referencing the *Yuga Cycle, which precedes directly by *Dvapara Yuga:
    - and followed by the next Cycle's known as : *Krita (Satya) Yuga.
To illustrate, the latter *Spiritual Enlightenment, it is often believed that:
    - to be in the present Age,. Era in which is full of *conflict and sin.
Yet, in *Hindu Theology, the terms : *Arishadvarga or *Shadripu:
Sanskrit: (षड्रिपु) meaning the *6 enemies which are in the *6 enemies:
    of the mind.
Hence, each individual fights them and the longer will be the life of:
Dharma in this *Yuga, one finds:
*Nirvana (free from all desires) and so, the following Mantra:
    1. *Lust or desire for sensual pleasure - काम - Kama.
    2. *Anger - क्रोध - Krodha.
    3. Greed - लोभ - Lobha.
    4. Attachment - मोह - Moha.
    5. Ego - मद - Mada.
    5.1. False ego - Ahankar,
(all actions in the World are for selfish ends).
    6. Envy or Jealousy - मत्सर्य - Matsarya.
    7. Laziness - Alasya.
In summary in Hinduism, the fundamental tenets of *Kali Yuga:
    - the *7 traits are considered negative characteristic(s) which prevent:
*Spiritual Enlightenment; meaning as human(s) from attaining *Moksha.

Since the History of International Law : *Capitulation as a *Series of Treaties.
According to the term of *Capitulation, as a *Series of Treaties.
Whereby One State, which is permitted by another to exercise extraterritorial:
    - jurisdiction over its own National(s) especially within the former State's:
    boundaries.
Hence the term *capitulation, is to be distinguished and derives from:
the Military term. Thus, meaning the following use of the word:
*capitulation, implying an *agreement for surrender.
For instance : the meaning of *capitulation in the British context.
Reference : /kəˌpɪtʃuˈleɪʃn/ [countable, uncountable] capitulation:
    - (to somebody/something) is "the act of accepting" that one has,
    been defeated by an enemy/opponent.
For example : the synonym interprets as : surrender:
    - (1) a humiliating/shameful capitulation.
Furthermore : (5) more Synonyms for *capitulate:
    - (as follows) :
    1. Defer,
    2. Relent,
    3. Submit,
    4. Succumb,
    5. and Yield.
    ..
Foundational to this is an example of *capitulation.
For instance : the 'verb' as follows : the 'terrorist(s)' are forced to *capitulate:
    - unconditionally. And so, the terrorist *capitulated to the organisation(s):
    to avoid a strike.
Conventionally, the *Series of Treaties. *Capitulation(s) of :
    - the *Ottoman Empire. Given there were plenty of contracts between:
the Ottoman Empire and several other Christian powers.
To name a few in-particularly France.
    For example : the-Act-of-capitulation, aka : the-Act-of-surrendering/yielding.
Term & condition(s) as the *capitulation of the defenders of the besieged:
    - a. town and b. the terms of surrender.
However : the *Turkish capitulations, or also known as the *Ahidnâmes,
were generally considered the 'bilateral act(s)'.
Since, *Capitulation, in this context refers to the moment when the,
people(s) gave up their belief that the system can be saved. And as:
    - a result abandon their hope for a better future.
Based on the findings of from a psychological state/prepositive which:
it can be argued that which often leads to the collapse of a society.
Whereby, the latter suggests that the definite arrangement(s) were,
    - entered into by each contracting party towards the other,
    and was not mere concessions.
For instance : if one *capitulates, then one stops resisting and does what:
    - someone else wants them to do.
For example : the terrorist organisation eventually *capitulated and now:
    - grants equal rights to *hamas.
For instance : given the impact(s) of the *Series of Treaties, the Ottoman:
Empire underwent during the European industrialization.
And so, in turn the *Capitulation(s) lead to European influence.
Based on the ideas presented : *Capitulation is a period of prolonged:
    - price drops which causes *investor-in-terrorist-organisation(s) to sell:
    - their positions and accept the losses. Rather than see their assets:
    decrease further.
Since, it may occur as the final stage of a bubble, when their family/
friends don't need them to do they 'dirty work' anymore and so,
    the inflated asset prices collapse.
For example : the agreements gave France, and later other European:
powers, the *Right to trade within the Ottoman Empire without paying,
    taxes and other economic concessions.
    Hence, a sort of pre-modern *free-trade agreement.
    Nevertheless *capitulation(s) ends.
Given, the First Country to conclude the *Set-of-Treaties, which ended:
the *capitulation(s) put on Japan in [1899].
Yet, it was not until [1943] that Great Britain & the United States:
    formally relinquished:their Right(s) in China.
Then again, except for certain arrangements in *Muscat and Bahrain,
    the *capitulations ceased to exist.

The Ottoman's *Arab(s) were *not a part of the Nationalism Movement:
    - since they failed to industrialize.
And so, as a result the capitulation and collapse of the 'Ottoman Empire':
    - since they surrendered in WW1.
While this is the case, given a number of reason(s) but the main one being:
    - such as the lack of money which in turn prevented the 'Ottoman State'.
Specifically not been able to *in-completing the necessary reforms and:
thus not a part of the industrialization era *the Nationalism Movement:
Complementary to this is the reputation of: rising Nationalism, located in:
the outer territories of the Empire.
Likewise, especially in the Eastern Region of the European Christian areas,
    - who in effect rejected the following to tribes. Namely, the Turkic:
& the Islamic character of the modern Ottoman State.
For example : the modern Ottoman State & their Allies known as :
*Armistice of Mudros | Ottoman Empire, during World War [I].
Reference Date : on October [30] [1918] when a *Pact signed at:
    - the port of *Mudros, on the *Aegean Island of Lemnos.
In brief referenced above this *Pact signed between both the:
Ottoman Empire & Great Britain ( which at the time represented:
    - the Allied powers) marked a very important time in History.
Given the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War [I]:
    - estimated with-in the timeframe [1914-18] Years.
    ..
And yet, the term *capitulation, refers to the legal position of foreigners:
    - in the Ottoman Empire.
For instance : this legal position of *capitulation, is set and regulated by:
    - a *Series of Treaties (also some customary rules). Which in-effect gave:
    - *foreign citizens special privileges.
These privileges include the (3): as follows :
    1. Right to Worship,
    2. Special Tax status,
    3. Exemption from the Jurisdiction of the local Courts.
Nevertheless. UK aka : Britain wanted control over the Ottoman Empire:
Alongside : the *Armistice of Mudros | Ottoman Empire,
    during World War [I].
Encapsulated with-in the (2) areas as follows.
    1. Great Britain wanted control over what is now Palestine,
    - (some have argued due to its) in and in close range approximating:
    - to the *Suez Canal in Egypt.
    2. Britain, also viewed the *Middle East as an extension of their:
    - already existing Colonial Empire.
Yet, the term 'Capitulation' is neither good nor bad, and when implemented:
in the appropriate context it can be seen as profitable depending on an:
    - *investor's position.
For instance : these *Investors have a long position standing to profit:
    - during a 'bullish capitulation' as short sellers close out their positions.
And so, derived from : Latin *Capitulation' / capitulum, is a translated as:
    - a little head or division; known as : 'capitulare; (by which means to treat:
    - upon terms).
Thus, the term *Capitulation' in many respect applies to an *Agreement:
    - in time of War for the surrender to a *hostile armed:

    - initially made during the *Ottoman Empire's Military dominance.
Only, to entice and encourage commercial exchange with Western merchants.
Moreover, after the *Military dominance shifted to Europe, (the situation:

Its not the fault of american jews that there is only Biden or Trump to "elect" - or is it? First Interview that was boring to me. Not one answer that hit the bell.

    The Efficacy of *Divine illumination:
Reference : Palestine Under the British Mandate [1920]-[1948]:
    - Hence : the whole Region was known as Palestine.
Nevertheless the key aspect in the *Psychology of Lighting.
Since : the fact known as *Colored light which can also have:
    - a significant psychological impact on one's being.
Emphasised in the fact as the *Brilliant Light-Ideology:
    - such as: reference : *Blue Light Therapy:
Where studies have shown that an increase alertness and,
improved focus when one under-went treatment.
And so, *Blue Light Therapy, has been rated for been an ideal:
    - choice for workspaces.
However In contrast, *warm-toned lights are said to be ideal therapy:
    - for creating a calm and relaxing environment.
Such as : scene(s) of *warm-toned lights, where it sets a perfect:
    - ambiance for bedrooms and front rooms.
    ..
In the same way : *Palestine in the Bible.
But, the name *Palestine, was familiar to their Ancient neighbours:
    - in Egypt: as the *Egyptian as 'Purusati' and in *Assyrian as 'Palastu'.
Furthermore : *Palestine: in the *Hebrew Bible as 'Peleshet':
    Reference : Exodus [14:14] & Isaiah [14:29], [31] & Joel [3:4].
To add to this in the English Authorized version, *Palestine as :
'Peleshet' is rendered as : 'Palestina' or in *Joel only, Palestine.

Just as important is when the *Jewish people left Palestine.
Given the *social and economic discrimination and the implications:
    - it caused as significant number of the *Jewish Emigration from:
    - Palestine, cease to have existed then.
Equally important is the *Muslim Civil Wars in the [8]th & [9]th Centuries.
Since: many Jewish people had to leave their homes the Country.
Another instance: by the end of the [11]th Century as the *Jewish:
    - population of Palestine had declined substantially.
To elaborate further and to set some sort of boundary on the *mental-mode:
aspects such as : *Brilliant-Blue-Light concept as: *Divine illumination.
Given : according to *Divine illumination, ( which is a process known):
as : of *Human thought needs to be Aided by *Divine Grace.
Yet, the oldest and most influential alternative to *Naturalism in:
-the theory of mind and epistemology.
For example : the basic concept of *Illumination.
As Illumination: is when the light falls upon any particular surface,
and so, the phenomenon is called the *illumination.
Subsequently, defined as the *number of Lumens, falling on:

Surely there are believing JEWS and non- believing JEWS and this centres around ones FAITH and RELATIONSHIP with GOD and a heart knowing belief that the TORAH IS the WORD OF GOD. ...and one should not be surprized that there are even RABBIS as their are christians and christian pastors and preachers, WHO DO NOT KNOW GOD IN THIS WAY........AND who do not HAVE A FAITH RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

Yes the Good Friday Belfast Agreement of 1998. Very difficult peace procsss and it took parties in N Ireland(Uk) politicians and leaders of both paramilitaries to want peace to come together with the British Government Tony Blair the Irish Government Rep of Ireland Bertie Ahearn and with the assistance of the Americian Government President Bill
Clinton. And it invoved both sides in N Ireland in decommissioning their arms under the supervision of George Michell,US.
I see very little similarity with Israel and the hostility of Hezbollah (Party of Allah) who are baed in Lebanon whoes goal is to destroy the Jewish state and Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza who also want to destroy the Jewish state of Israel and replace with a Palestinian Islamic state and the West Bank ,(Judea and Samaria) and Gaza from.the ' river to the sea ' .
