I bought Boyeson Reed Valves for a 125cc and cut them to fit. They came with one thick sheet overlaid with a thin sheet. Cost me 65$ for the material , but damn well worth it. Great video. Respect, RH DSD
+Pony Power The material is custom made at Boyeson Reeds and Valves. THey DO NOT make them for a 50cc, but that does not mean you cannot buy a larger reed and cut it down for like a CT reed cage, like I did. The Material is highly classified, very expensive and works at low mid and extreme high speed with no flutter. I have many reed valve videos in my playlist to show exactly how this is done.
My two stroke Yamaha rx 135 has reduced its fuel economy average which is 20 kmpl only. And the throttle accelerates automatically at low fuel and fuel cork off but returns to normal when the petrol tank is refuelled and fuel cork on. Also I connected my oil pump after a long time as I was using premix earlier. Please let me know the issue.
Hi mate. I have a Yamaha aerox yq50. It overheated as I was riding around and didn’t realise the tank was empty therefore overheating and I rode it the next day wouldn’t go past 20mph started backfiring so ordered a new piston and barrel as they were both damaged fitted it turned it over tried to set the carb up but no look under full load engine would bog and refuse to go over 10mph and I was wondering wether it could be the clutch slipping, rollers or even the reed valves could be bad I was wondering wether you could recommend anything
i got one of those 66cc motorized bicycles and first thing i did was jetted it lean enough to run right and put an expansion chamber on it and at wide open throttle boy has it picked up a few miles an hour, not to mention it makes atleast twice the power from mid range up as far till it simply cant breathe anymore at 17,000 rpm. but its always lacked in the down bottom end of the powerband, i know they dont have any torque below like 5,000 rpm but it 4 strokes and runs like shit untill it hits the "powerband" where the pipe starts to work, i got a reed valve intake coming in the mail for it to hopefully make it run smooth all through the rpm range and hopefully make more bottom end torque, before it was just where the piston comes down and covers the intake port like a chainsaw
can i use silicon gasket maker replacement for gasket? I destroyed the old gasket and can't find a new one at local store. Or can i use cardboard box from cereal?
ever try making them with the thin plastic that protects a plasma tv on the inside ???? ive been making stencills to paint with them for years ,,,,i made some but then my kick start broke dying to know if theyll work ............... but do i need to worry about the seats , they are looking pretty corroded the person bought the bike from ran home made metal ones bad cuts n all so i think these will b better advise please and please dont say buy some new ones im bord and thats tooo easy lol
Hi Matt, I have a malaguti xtm 50 with the popular but awful minarelli am6 engine. The barrel is standard, the carb is standard and I put a new piston in it when I got it a few months ago. The bike is derestricted but mid revs the bike splutters and gets stuck in a dead spot and struggles to get out unless I'm going down a hill or I push with my feet. This is very annoying as you would imagine so do you know what it could be? I have tried applying the choke slightly when it is in the dead spot (to see if it's starving of fuel) but it just makes it worse. I also covered the exhaust when it was in the dead spot and it also made it worse so I'm thinking it could be an exhaust problem. The reeds also don't shut completely at rest and there is about a half mm gap. They do shut when pushed so they are not jammed open. Could you please help! having to ride a 50cc bike is awful enough already lol. Thanks
I had to research this as it just seemed that you got your info completely wrong. Turns out you just didn't explain that these reed valves are not from a four stoke KLEEN air (Kawasaki) or PAIRS system (you give a clue at the end though lol). Still cool to see how they work and I'm sure they are still built the same and work the same with air pressure differences.
Hello mate, a good next step is to remove the spark plug and pour a slight amount of fuel into the cylinder. Then start the engine and listen for ignition. If you get a pop then you know that its a fuelling issue.
The Workshop I have one more question about my bike the radiator has a clear hose connected to it and their is a hole on the top of the motor near the power valve is that where it hooks up and the hose go there or is the hose a breathing hose for the radiator and the hole a breathing hole for the top end
You generally don’t add reed valves to a piston port engine. It usually doesn’t work very well. I’m sure that’s not always true but I’ve never gad success with it. The timing between the reeds and the ports just don’t seem to sync.
hi I got a gilera dna 50 and on full throttle it pretty much dies, it feels like engine breaking and it does it going down hill, I checked the reeds, and carb they are fine, just wondered if you had any ideas of what it could be?
+Pony Power nah Its got no mods apart from being unrestricted, and by die i mean it stops all revs and speed drops, it's almost like a killswitch effect that stops the revs and engine
Top left patch say dinli by chance? Question? I swithed out a 50cc reed valve to a 90cc thinking reeds were bad it did make the bike run. But what issues might this cause if any? Ive had a hard time getting it going. This got it running just not tuned yet. Ty
how long is a piece of string? I depends what they're made of, how many miles they've done, how high your rev range is etc. If they're nearly 7 years old they a change would be a good idea. If they've lasted this long then i'd replace them like for like.
+Joe Mamma The first reeds were stainless steel and metal. metal fatigue cause them to break, get sucked into the engine with catastrophic piston failure. New reeds like Boyesen and others are plastic so the don't chew the hell out of your rings , cylinder, head and piston.
Thanks , good information to use for tuning. May I suggest that you be aware of your audio volume. When you turn away from the camera, you may mumble a bit which becomes difficult to hear. Also, certain portions were "off screen" of the video. It may take more practice to be aware of your viewing area and set up your camera accordingly. Other than that, thanks again for your time and effort to share good information. J K

did you replace the spark plug? If the engine over heated the spark plug had a bad time as well
The Workshop instead we cleaned the spark plug as it didn’t look burnt or damaged but I will order one and see if that makes a difference
@@leary1051 What fixed the issue?
@Theworkshop it turned out that the carb had a part broken so carb was rebuilt and had to order a new airbox now it’s running perfectly

Think I figured it out. Yes block and reeds. I looked it up they sell the same one for 50 and 90cc so should be ok

"but do i need to worry about the seats , they are looking pretty corroded"
- Yes you do.
Would a bad reed valve contribute to an engine bogging?
yes

firstly you need to sort out your reed issue, secondly add me on facebook as I need to see some pictures

My info is completely wrong, how?
This video is about 2 stroke reeds, that is obvious...
@@dirtygarageguy you need to read my comment again! 😂
I got a 03 kx 100 that wont start I checked check the engine and everything is good and has spark and good compression what u think is the next step

The clear hose coming from the radiator is an overflow tube so if the radiator boils the coolant will go on the ground.
KING TROLL wat about the hole is it a breathing hole
KING TROLL on top of the engine near the radiator
hey Matt, if you put reed valves on a piston ported motorycycle do you gain something(acceleration, top speed or..)
More about piston ported/reeds soon cause people seem to be confused about the whole thing
The Workshop - Looking forward to THAT, Matt!!!

+Pony Power nah Its got no mods apart from being unrestricted, and by die i mean it stops all revs and speed drops, it's almost like a killswitch effect that stops the revs and engine
A bit late, but probably something with your ignition

The reed petal or the reed block and petals, I'm a bit unsure in what you mean?
Is there anything to keep pieces from going into your crank case if the reed chips?
+Joe Mamma unfortunately no, anything in the inlet path will upset flow and effect the performance. You having trouble with chipping?
+Pony Power No, but I have been putting off getting new reeds, mine haven't been replaced since 2009! How long do they last?

So is there any point in me spending £130 odd quid on a set of Moto Tassinari Vforces Reed valves for my YZ250 ? 🤔
LOL no!
What's it made from Virgins Fanny Flaps
The Workshop Carbon Fibre haha but Yamaha come with Carbon Fibre reeds standard 🤔
A lot of people seem to buy them !
Robert Beattie because it has a w cage design not because its carbon fiber
jåbani priviet which one has the w design ?
And what does it mean ?
Is v force 3 stock valdes for ktm exc 125? Need to know

👍👍
Pony Power??
It's funny 5 years later you are still unprepared in your videos 😃
Can you remake the video in American English? Thanks
