ForeFlight Sentry Plus ADS-B Receiver Field Report

Made by uAvionix for ForeFlight, we think the Sentry portable ADS-B receiver is a good performer and decent value, based on our long-term reports. And after using the latest Sentry Plus model, we like its long list of standard features. But at $799, it's $200 more than the Sentry model, which still lives in the model lineup. Any of those screen functions, like the amount of G's, can be displayed on your foreflight app. One of the benefits of the 18 hour battery life is that this particular model has USB-C power delivery. Although it isn't the ideal way to power your foreflight device, usb-c allows you to charge your device assuming you have a usb-c to lightning cable.

Foreflight also records your flight path, so that Sentry+ feauture may be redundant.

To me the size is definitely a factor. I find the Sentry+ too large. My small flight back just barely holds everything I got on me. The sentry+ seems unnecessarily large. Also talking about battery life, who doesn't have mobile chargers or USB ports inside their airplane? I've never come into a situation where I ran out of batteries on any device, that'd just be poor planning. To me the Sentry+ is nonsense and this video proves my first thoughts I had about it.

An 18 hr battery is practical in that battery capacity degrades with time and use.

I am considering a portable adsb in device , it would be a good video to compare these two as well as the stratus 3?

Thanks for reviewing. I think the next question is if you were to buy a portable ADS-B receiver, and use Foreflight, would it a Stratus 3 or ForeFlight Sentry Plus? I am a new private pilot and it is time to purchase one.

At that point, it comes down to the CO detector, G-meter, built-in display and whether you ever want to use a third-party app. Stratus has a more open architecture and works with ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, FlyQ and others.
