Im happy to see other manufacturers making lenses for fuji. If they could make some super sharp super fast lightweight primes I would definitely be interested. 500mm f/4 / 600mm f/4 in fuji mount please :)
The reason lenses are sharper when you stop down is because you are blocking the typically less sharp edges. Even FF use bigger lens so they can also use only the Sharp center. That's why some FF lenses get obnoxiously large lens diameter, when have very fast aperture, basically the lens is shooting the center part only of the large diameter, even when wide open, it never gets close to the edges.
Thanks, Richard. I am an amateur looking to shoot soccer/football and my fuji 50-140mm doesn’t give me all the range I would like, so this review was very helpful as I consider whether to get this, the fuji 70-300, or the 100-400.
@@Eyeofkamau No new purchases as of now. I want to really feel "forced" to buy something new, and I'm not there yet. We just went to a tournament where I got to push the 50-140, see what I could accomplish with cropping in. The images are really great. It's really only when the action was half a field away or more is where I felt like I wanted a bit more. Good news for my pocketbook! And since I haven't felt fully compelled, I'm also holding back on deciding "this is the lens I'll get once I feel ready." But before this video I'd never have considered a non-Fuji.
Great review, although I'm not in the market for it, I think it's a good option for Fuji shooters. I have the 17-70 myself and am quite happy with it. One thing about these Tamron lenses for Fuji that might be worth comparing: how their VC works with Fuji's IBIS cams. A side-by-side comparison of shots taken on the X-T3 vs shots taken on an X-T4 might be helpful to know if there's any advantage (or disadvantage) to using their VC lenses on IBIS cams 🤔
Thank you Ian! Yes i would also be interested to know if using it on a Fuji camera with IBIS make any difference to the results. Unfortunately I don't have a XT4 myself to try that :(
@@TheRealRichardWong yes, I mean image quality. I’m approaching to photography, and I’m looking for a lens to do wildlife shot(birds and animals). I thought this can be a good lens
Kia Ora Thanks for the great review, very tempting lens. I bought the Tamron 18-300 as my simple travel lens and I am loving although I avoid pushing to 300 due to sharpness loss, and it seems this one performs much better. I will think if It makes sense to add to my collection, maybe for surfing and outdoor sporting shooting
Thank you for watching! a super travel zoom like the 18-300 usually would suffer a bit at the extreme end so yes this 150-500 should give you better sharpness in the telephoto end. However I haven't compare the two lenses myself to verify that.
Really nice review! Now it would be nice to be able to compare a bit more with the 150-600 (and not just weight wise) since it seems like it will be our only two options for a while (like someone said, maybe someday we'll have a super tele lens from Sigma on Fuji but when...)
When compared to Fuji’s own xf 100-400mm, this Tamron gives you more reach at the long end but same lens length, smaller diameter, lower price (both new), but a few ounces heavier. Dimension comparisons to the xf 150-600 are more in favor of the Tamron but the Fuji option gives you even longer reach. This lens seems like an intriguing alternative to Fuji’s own super telephoto options.
This is 3/4 the size (but 100g heavier) of the XF 150-600, much smaller. And way smaller than canon’s equivalent glass. This fits very nicely on the XH2
Using a lens-design meant for full frame, for cropped sensor cameras, will always render better in cropped… Because, the cropped format captures mainly the very best areas of the fully covered image (on a full frame camera), so the average quality over the whole image on a cropped, will be higher than on a full frame camera.
It's much worse than my old XF 100-400. It's nowhere near as stable as fuji OIS, and It does those very sudden, quick jumps like you can see at 6:27 on the right side, all the time. Got mine today, goes straight back.
If you go APS-C, it's because you want a camera system that is not heavy with great photos performance. The Tamron 150-500mm is too heavy in my opinion... better go with the xf150-600mm.... 100mm more and less heavy.
But f/8 is way too dark for many uses. If you're in a forest, you're gonna be shooting at 6400 ISO minimum with that aperture. I'm hoping for Sigma to bring their 150-600 to X-Mount, none of the current options seem like a good enough upgrade from my old XF 100-400.
Just got mine and I'm super disappointed. The stabilization is absolutely terrible, switching it on barely even does a difference, and it constantly jerks up and down, visibly stretching images if you're using ES, because of the sudden movement. What really surprised me, is that in direct comparison, my XF 100-400 is about equally sharp at 400 mm, which is where I was expecting some significant improvements, since the fuji is kind of soft there. The Fuji also has MUCH better stabilization, faster autofocus, is lighter and has no chromatic aberrations, while there's some fringing with the tamron.
The Fuji XF150-600 is a seriously nice lens, so I’ll never be in the market for this Tamron lens. I also have the older Fuji XF 100-400, which is also super awesome, so again, no more reason to cover this focal range with more lenses
The 100-400 is $1,900 and 150-600 is $2,000. This lens being at $1,300 is enough of a reason to have it in the xmount lineup, as not everyone can or is willing to drop over $2,000 (including taxes) on a lens
Are you looking at getting a super telephoto lens for your fuji camera? Does this Tamron lens tick all the boxes for you?
I’ll get a super telephoto when they find a way to make a 70-1000mm f1.0 that’s the size of my 18-55 kit lets.
Seems like a dream lens. Wonder why there aren't more reviews of it. Only one piece of puzzle is missing: tell me it costs less than 1k! 😂
Great to see another long telephoto for Fuji!
Indeed! And it's a pretty good one!
Im happy to see other manufacturers making lenses for fuji. If they could make some super sharp super fast lightweight primes I would definitely be interested. 500mm f/4 / 600mm f/4 in fuji mount please :)
I would love to see some third party high quality fast super telephoto prime lens!

Enjoy it with your xt5!

Can't wait for this lens to be available in the Z mount.
Yeah hopefully not too far future
This is great review. However, have you tested in on xt-5 or xh-2. is the quality same on 40mpx sensor?

yes i think that would be great. Unfortunately it's not always easy to get access to lens i want to compare :(
I think I'd get this for my Sony A7IV rather than my X-T3, I don't like the size, price and weight of using a FF lens on APS-C.

Excellent lens, excellent review!
Looking forward to Sigma releasing their 150-600 for Fuji but it hardly happens cause it will destroy the one from Fuji, I guess :))
In some aspects. In others, no.
Is it just my eye's or does this lens look sharper on other camera's and other reviews here on RUclips?
Nope! It’s not your eyes. I returned mine and bought the Fuji 100-400
Richard have you compared this lens with Fuji's own 150-600?
No sorry I haven't
Hi, thanks for the review. I wonder if the VC is equal to Fuji's OIS?. I am afraid the performance is something not so good as it's sibling 18-300mm.
Would be interesting to find out. Unfortunately i wasn't able to find a lens to do a side by side test

And also 50% larger.. you’ll need a separate backpack to carry it lol. This lens is faster and smaller
Hello sir, can I buy this when paired with Fujifilm 150 600?
hi there, sorry not sure if i really understand your question
Is there a way this lens will work with the fuji telekonverter ?
Hi Sven, sorry i'm not sure
Q: So would this lens be perfect for photographing surfers off the beach ?
Yes i think it would be really suitable, unless you want to pay more for the faster aperture lens
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks 🙏. i might get the lens. in regards to paying more for faster lens I think this one renders nice backgrounds.
