I have a 7.5 Golf R. I think it's great, and I got it because of the usability and comfort as I do a lot of miles. I can't deny I prefer the BMW engine, but as an everyday tool I'm happy I have the Golf.
You should get the proper m-steering wheel

Maybe some of you guys think I'm crazy - I sold my Cupra R and bought a M140i Manual.
The M140i isn't as sharp as the Cupra, but I love changing gears by this 6-cylinder engine. Also in wet conditions is it fun to slide, there was no fun with the Cupra R. There are many fast hot hatches, but I always choose the ultimate 3.0l turbo charged understatement beast🤘

Cause of the engine it is faster.
In my opinion the Cupra R feels a bit more like a track toy compared to the M140i. It isn't the top version like the R and you feel it - it's the M2
The M140i - even being a compact car - feels like a proper GT car:

The whole interior looks like 1994, way behind VAG, Mercedes.
This is the 2011 interior I think...pre LCI II. In 7 years a lot has happened....
The golf is faster and quicker. The catless downpipe in the 135i helps a lot and also it has a intake. If the 135i would have been stock it would have been slower all around. And don't forget that the R moves 4 wheels while the 135i only 2. In theory even if the cars would be identical in weight and power the 135i should be faster because it has less power loss in the drivetrain. All this added makes the R even more impressive if you ask me.

Worth pointing out the BMW top speed is *electronically* limited and can easily be removed, then it's higher than the Golf's

Had an FK2 Type R for nearly 3 years and looking to 'upgrade' so test drove a 2019 golf r and was a totally underwhelming experience. Quick off the line but so so dull to drive. Tried an M140i and was a lot more entertaining so on the lookout for a BMW now!
Obviously neither car compare to the FK2 for the handling but the M140i will be a great replacement plus it sounds better than the Golf!
Golf R for everyday

optioned with the brakes wheels leather and exhausts.drive away 48.000 euro. why did that golf cost so much money?. thats about $120.000Au.
here $67.000Au and i thought that was expensive for a golf. the limited edition looks no different from the standard golf R.no more power. and standard R has
better wheels and costs about $8000 cheaper. i can understand the BMW and its followers as a drivers car. but the grip in the wet from the golf is amazing!.

The Golf is awesome as a daily driver. Bmw is my pick coz I just love em to bits. I'm loving my 340i non x drive with the rear wheel drive in sport+ mode and the paddleshifts:-))

A lot of comments from people who have probably never driven either. They are both fantastic cars for different reasons (I chose the Golf), but the idea that anyone would make a very serious choice (to the majority) of purchasing a car based purely on the noise it makes need to give their heads a wobble. Each car is a better car to different people, based on their requirements. Handing over a lot of cash for a car is very different to clicking play on a RUclips video.

The golf R in my opinion it’s such a safe option you can’t go wrong really their not really expensive but u get a lot of car for the money, golf have come so far imo and bmw basically have the same car as they did in 2011 set from a few different exterior changes so personally would go for golf r

Insane how a fully loaded Golf R is 77000 EUR in Europe but ~42000 EUR in Australia.
We usually pay a lot more for Euro cars.

The M135i has so much more driving character than even this particular Golf R (which looks stunning in its own right). The Golf R sounds great... for a Golf R. But it can’t compare to the silky smooth scream of a straight six. The styling of the M135i is awkward and frumpy, and I LOVE the look of hatchbacks. BMW didn’t make the greatest looking hatch. Maybe hatchies need to be FWD to look right? I’m a big BMW fan but my current ride is a GTI.
I am a big fan of VW, but i must admit the exhaust on the BMW is very nice!

Love the M135I, in my opinion it's a much more playful car in comparison to the Golf R. However totally different cars, interiorwise, engine wise etc. I'm very curious about the new interior on the upcoming 1 series. I think that the Golf R then takes the second place interiorwise,

I have that same golf r, unfortunately when i bought mine we couldn't select the akrapovic exhaust. The color name is curcuma/turmeric yellow

Love BMW engines they are powerful as hell, but their interior designerneeds to be fired. All BMW looks the same inside throughout all the ranges and its getting old. You could buy a BMW from 4 years ago and itll look the same inside as a brand new one, otherthan that BMW are monsters

I think that it's a great idea to compare this two cars and actually one of the best videos you did.
The looks of the M135i let it down for me. Interior looks bland compared to the Golf and even the quad vs dual exhaust looks much better on the Golf. There is not much in it power wise and the added benefit of 4WD would be the clincher for me.
