The DJI recently has dropped it's price from $329 to $249 - so the Ulanzi is now not less than one third of the price lol

    • @BlairAir
      @BlairAir 7 месяцев назад

They are clearing stock. Mic 2 is coming, already comes with Pocket 3 - no physical receiver, as its built-in to Pocket 3. Now we need ECOSYSTEM - so the drone controllers get mic receiver built in. I can PAIR Mic 2 to drone controller, Bluetooth, but no sound is transmitted. Now I have to bring Pocket 3, Mic 2, and Mic 1 kit. Or... just use mic 1 with everything, olus ill need to sell mic 1 and get mic 2 to have it all work. Ecosystem DJI. Ecosystem.

Ulanzi is 1/4 price of DJI as of today in China. It is priced at $60 while DJI $249. It seems like a no brainer to me.

Thanks for the direct comparison! On my PC, not having a new or expensive speaker setup, the difference was pretty clear. DJI sounds a little cleaner, crisper with just the onboard mic. With the lavalier mic the gap closes that much more, and listening on a phone the difference is non existent. The Ulanzi setup should be a perfect wireless mic setup for most peoples needs

Great video, as always. I use the DJI with all my videos and I think it is pretty extensive, reliable and produces high quality. However, I have been eyeing the Ulanzi device as well as a secondary option (Ulanzi has been really stepping it up, and affordably). Thank you for the detailed video and the comparisons. May have to pull the trigger and get one now, lol.

I have purchased this ulanzi in the pre-sale for 80 USD. The sound quality and the battery life has surprised me. I cannot hear any difference from the Original Rode Wireless Go I have used for ages now. It is also much better with the range as my Godox MoveLink M2 or Synco Air G2 i have used sometimes, I needed to mic up 2 or up-to-5 people at once.
My only problem is the time it takes to copy the saved file from the mic to my PC. my win. explorer (Win.11) starts freezing right away I plug the device in, and also the copying takes ages. The read speed is barley 1Mb/s most of the times. but again, it is a safety track I use when there was a connection issue.

I bought one of these when Ulanzi notified me about them. I'm not important enough for them to send me stuff but I bought them anyway. I was one of those that asked Mark to do a review. I did a review myself but Mark is so much better at these than I am (he's better looking too). The only other wireless mics I have are the Hollyland Lark 150 which do not have the internal recording on them. I really think these are top notch for the price so if you want a wireless set up but can not afford the prices of the big brand names these are a no brainer. Mark has even left a link for you to buy your own. Well Done Mark.

i do have a good mic (that i actually got recommended by you- can’t remember what it was called, it was a budget one) but the shock mount broke and it’s not great for recording voice overs since it doesnt work with the extension cord i got. so i’ve been looking into getting a new shock mount so i can keep the mic, but then also get a wireless mic for voice overs and long-distance audio recording.

I don't have the best opinion about ulanzi's quality control with somw lights failing me after 3 weeks so I wouldn't buy it for important unrepeatable moments. But for someone starting trying to cut expenses to grow up or for some vlogs or backup kit, even as extra recorders, they look Ok. The sound is good for the price

I don't have either mic system - I use Pico Gear mics (they too accept a lav plug-in) - but I always love a good mic video. It could be my laptop - but the Ulanzi seemed borderline peeking as your voice got higher through the rhythm of your speech and speakers got really rumbly - the DJI seemed to control those upper pitches and volumes better - just held together better in general.

I'd say against the Ulanzi, that is doesn't have a rotary dial on the receiver - there is one that has a dial (don't ask me which one, a lesser-known brand, with a good price point); and its touchscreen is tiny; sau modifying the volume on the receiver differntly for each transmitter can be difficult.

It's important to note the Ulanzi records at 16bit while the DJI records at 24bit (ah sorry you did mention this, thank you!), so if you don't get your levels quite right, especially in situations where you are in a loud environment, you have a lot less flexibility in fixing it in post. With that said, most cameras including the ZV-E1 record in 16bit too (which is also a bit disappointing).
Question though, how securely does the wind muff attach on the AM18? - I've lost a few on my Rode Wireless Go 1 as they are not secure at all!

Wow, it sounds like they use an identical capsule. You're right, to hear the difference between 16 and 24 bit, you need hell of a listening setup. The only advantage of the Rode is 32 bit float, it will never clip, but the DSP on these mics probably prevents that with a limiter (Ulanzi and DJI), so the Ulanzi seems like a no brainer especially considering that the Rode doesn't sound better than DJI or the identical sounding (on studio monitors) Ulanzi. The icing on the cake is the price in China, barely over 50 USD, ordering one even if the Boya XM6 still sounds better.

I think ulanzi sleek design is better for sure

I think the conclusion is simple - if you have a lot of money or you are a professional, buy yourself ROde Wireless Pro, the best set at the moment. If you're not rich and famous yet, the Ulanzi AM-18 is a pretty decent device for most tasks, such as vlogging, reviews and reporting. The main problems of Ulanzi are design and materials. Unfortunately they look very cheap.

unfortunately, the ulanzi transmitter does not have a blocking system. When it is used with an external microphone and the transmiter is kept in the pocket, the physical buttons are accidentally pressed and the recording is interrupted.

You can power off the receiver and just use the internal recording on the transmitter if that helps

How about Lavs? Compatible with both: TRS and TRRS or only TRS?

I have issue with both TRS and TRRS lav mics and Ulanzi U-Mic. The microphones aren't detected by transmitter or there's a buzzing ground noise. I recorded a video about this issue for Ulanzi Support but for now they aren't really helpful :(

I literally could tell no difference, the Ulanzi is a tremendous value. On Amazon it’s $99 but also has a 15% off coupon. I’ve picked one up because you can never have enough microphones. lol 😂 thanks for the review !

Today I discovered that Ulanzi equipped their transmitters with the weakest memories in the world. If you record internally and want to copy files, you'll experience speeds of 300 kbps and a maximum of 1-2 Mbps. So, you need a lot of patience. Besides this, sometimes when the audio file splits, it remains silent for 1-2 seconds. A total disappointment with this Ulanzi product.

If the internal recorders split the audio after a certain amount of time, but if should line up in your editor without gaps. Use a high speeds usbc data transfer cable if you haven’t tried that. Maybe send it back and see if it is better with a different unit?

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I used thunderbolt 4 and usb 3.1 input. Just as slow. There is another person on youtube who complains about the lack of sound when splitting the file.

I’ll check mine. I generally use the internal as a backup, but that would be a big downside
