Hey everyone! Sorry for the delayed upload, but life happened and I had to take some time off to deal with things! I really hope you enjoy this video because sooo many of you guys requested videos about watercolor pencils! Let me know if you want to see more videos like that and what you struggle with when it comes to using watercolor pencils!
So for the people that are thinking that they did it the wrong way. You didn't. The original way is coloring with pencils first and then going on top with water. You can obviously just use it like this. It's just a different technique. But I actually think that it kinda ruins the reason why you would even use watercolor pencils. I think it's best to use both techniques but not just painting alone. Just use watercolor if you are only using them as normal watercolor. You use watercolor pencils to use them as pencils. Not as paint. (only). It's a mix, I use them to give the things that I don't want smooth some texture.
Yes there are ton of different ways how to use watercolor pencils! I just got a lot of requests about watercolor pencils because not everyone has watercolors, so I decided to share a fun and easy way how to get most out of your watercolor pencils :)
there is no right or wrong way to use a medium, how does using it as paint "ruins the reason to even use watercolor pencils"? in the end they are pigments too (in a pencil) just as the standard watercolors you get in pans or tubes. Also people on a budget will go for pencils because pans & tubes are more expensive, and they get to experience (not the real experience but some sort of introduction to it) the watercoloring feeling with the technique shown on video. If they love it they could then move on to watercolor pans. It's a sort of affordable introduction to the world of watercoloring and i can't see why you see it as wrong really.
You are a true artist ...no special colours no extra brushes...no waste of paper.......awesome sense of using color.....and good imaginations 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Oh my god This is amazing I used this technique (different painting though) and won an art competition You are half of the reason I love you I liked and subbed I’m in shock I will never use another technique again _i love you_ *yes* (Also I have a set of Faber-Castell I love them)
Uh it is cool to use. But to never use another technique? That's a harmful thought for an artist to have. Keep your mind open. Just like you did when you found this video/technique
as a beginner, i don't have a lot of great tools yet. but i did buy myself a pack of quality watercolor pencils because an advertisement of them looked so amazing. and then i used them twice and gave up. i am SOOOOO happy to see this example of how i can basically use them now in place of the better paint i have not yet talked myself into buying. thanks again!!!
My mom bought some for me 10 years ago.I wasn't sure how to use them.I haven't done traditional art in YEARS but always loved watercolor.I might get back into attempting to paint.
I LOVE this video! I bought watercolor pencils for the fun of it but am pretty clueless. Your video was sooo easy to understand, love your style too. I’d take any “new to this” videos you’d like to make. Thx!
#makoficationsquad I wasn't expecting such vibrant colours to be possible when you water down watercolour pencils this much but these are super pretty. These pencils are way more versatile than I thought.
Watching you drawing is a relaxing , i just came back from final test and i am so tired and sleepy, but when i watch this , i feel fine , like if i am inside this spectacular views. Thank you so much
Just bought a set of watercolor pencils...m glad I clicked this when I was looking for a tutorial on watercolor pencils! It's subtle but yet so beautiful!
I have been struggling to learn how to use my watercolour pencils, and after watching your video I feel like I can actually start to experiment with them! Thank you so much for sharing!
You have saved my day!! I struggled to paint with these pencils (I have the same set you have) by applying the dry pencil to my paper. Then you said "create a palette", the skies opened and I swear I heard angels! :) Thank you so much.
Such cute scenes. I’ve been wanting to try my watercolor pencils again. Oh, not sure if anyone mentioned it already, but if you’re looking for a more permanent, reusable palette for your watercolor pencils (instead of using paper), try looking on Amazon for the Caran D’ache Palette Aquarelle. One side is rough for pencils and the other side is smooth for paints
Oh my word! You just opened a whole new world for me! I have them but never really used them because......hmm, I never realized the versatility of watercolor pencil, just thought they where more water soluble colored pencils, 🤷🏻♀️ lol
I use watercolor pencils as dry pencils and then blend it out with a wet brush. But your method is more convenient and amazing. Keep making more videos like this ❤❤ #makoficationsquad
Amazing video :) I love this watercolor pencils from Faber Castell! I can give you one more tip how to use these pencils. Lets say you have a pallet be it plastic or porcelan and so on, then you take your water color pencil and a wet brush. If you rub your brust against the tip of the pencil you can drip the color-water mix directly into the pallet and you can use it like you would use watercolor.
OMG!!! THIS IS SOOO SOO SOO BEAUTIFUL😍😍😍😍 I LOOOVED IT MAKO! KEEP UP YOUR GREAT WORK😍😍 LOOOVE YOUU!!😊❤❤❤ AND A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS!! YAYYYY!!🎊🎊🎊
Thank you so much for making this video it helped me so much! This is the first time I used water colouring pencils and I never realised how wonderful this piece of art is!
Please make more of this! I really need more inspiration and motivation for art, to learn more, to make it even more motivating, so this is absolute great!
#makoficationsquad This was so beautiful! I hadn't really given much thought to watercolor pencils. Admittedly they seemed to me at first glance like they were intended for those uncomfortable with paints to introduce them to the medium though a familiar tool rather than as their own wet media with their own strengths, and so I'd been decidedly avoiding them as a beginning for worry of becoming reliant on the familiarity. I can imagine that might still be something to be mindful of, but this video really demonstrates the unique touch they can add to the paintings, particularly in the way of the sort of grainy, dotty texture they add. In a weird way, it sorta reminds me of Yoshi's Island, just in terms of the softness and the pop of the textures. Delightful! :>
Thank u for introducing me to watercolor!! Because of you I love watercolor today . You have taught me so many techniques! Watercolor is just so relaxing 😆😆😆 #makoficationsquad
I bought my first water colors a few weeks ago and use your videos for inspiration and learning😊💪 I looove your channel, you're such a nice person 😻❤ #makoficationsquad
Interesting! Most people I’ve watched draw as if they were using normal color pencils, then use a brush to blend. I didn’t know people draw the colors on the side & use it like normal water color painting! That’s cool, also you’re good at painting!
Thanks for this video! It really helped me! I have watercolor pencils, but I didn't know how to use them, PD:your logic at the end is...unique... I like it

#makoficationsquad Thank you so much mako for making videos like this 😍 Your videos always motivate me everytime I feel down about the outcomes of my artworks 😂😍 Please continue doing videos like this. More power to you 😘
I’ve been using watercolor pencils like colored pencils. Mako’s tutorial really opens my eyes to possible techniques using watercolor pencils. I am going to buy a watercolor sketch book to practice Mako’s techniques.
I really appreciate this tutorial. Now that I know how to use watercolor pencils, I feel stupid for letting them break and losing some colors without even caring. TuT I was a beginner in watercolor pencils and I thought you were suppose to draw the whole thing first before activating them with water. And because of that, the whole thing always turns into a huge muddy puddle and I hated it. I feel like I betrayed my watercolor pencils. T__T Thanks for the tutorial.
This is so good! I'm trying to make a sky watercolor painting for my girlfriend but since I'm new to it, I didn't know how to start. Now I think I got a little bit ideas of what to do. Thank you so much for uploading the tutorials
You are always my inspiration to keep drawing no matter how skilled I am!! Thanks for another awesome video Mako, I have a bunch of watercolor pencils and now I know how to use them!! 👭👍👌👏

Thank you for showing us how to use watercolour pencils. I have some and never knew how to use them until now. It will be fun to experiment with them. I love your videos.
I actually love watching you make three different paintings at once. I'm always afraid that I will lose focus if I take even a slight pause when working on something. That makes me tense, stressed, and unhappy which, in turn, makes me want to avoid art altogether. Watching you proves that multitasking is not the same as losing focus and being focused is not the same as restricting myself and my creativity.
#makoficationsquad!!! this was so amazing! you're such a talented artist and I LOVE your work! using the pencils this way is so cool and if you're travelling then you can just draw some colours on a piece of paper and take it with you!❤❤❤👍👍👍💗💗💗😍😍😍💖💖💖

How to make pictures realistic with watercolor pencils. .🙁#makoficationsquad
Wait... this is how your supposed to use them? I've always been coloring the entire picture then putting water on top. XD
You can do both ways! There are different techniques and I liked this one to create the smooth texture!
Honestly that’s what I thought you were supposed to do that
Me too! I dont know why i did that too.
Mandee Dong same
I did tat too
I never even thought about using watercolour pencils like a pallette, that's a much better idea! 😅
I didn't thought either it's a great idea ✨

I used watercolors pencils because its cheaper XD
We use watercolor pencils because we are part of the broke family
I use watercolor pencils because they are much more portable for me, because I am a messy person.
there is no right or wrong way to use a medium, how does using it as paint "ruins the reason to even use watercolor pencils"? in the end they are pigments too (in a pencil) just as the standard watercolors you get in pans or tubes. WOOF THE FREAK?! I didn't know you can use them as a palette! Thx for the tutorial!

Omg cool! Sometimes i also feel like drawing with watercolor pencils in some competition but afraid that i will ruin it and fail:(
as a beginner, i don't have a lot of great tools yet. but i did buy myself a pack of quality watercolor pencils because an advertisement of them looked so amazing. and then i used them twice and gave up. i am SOOOOO happy to see this example of how i can basically use them now in place of the better paint i have not yet talked myself into buying. thanks again!!!

My mom bought some for me 10 years ago.I wasn't sure how to use them.I haven't done traditional art in YEARS but always loved watercolor.I might get back into attempting to paint.

Nice to see some variation as to how the pencils can be used other than the standard; just draw & add water
This is amazing! I love it! I’ve had watercolour pencils for two years but have never known how to use them well. Thank you!
seriously, finding your art journal series is really therapeutic for me. also helping me in starting watercolor painting.
That's so beautiful, I never thought of making a palet with watercolor pencils. I subscribed to see more, thank you!
Thank you so much for the lesson and especially for your personal comments.
THANK U SO MUCH I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO USE IT BETTER.
