The album recording is clearly played over it, but if you listen closely you can still hear him belting out a pretty fierce scream. You can tell there's a real one under there by when he stops. No way could he replicate the original recording after so many years of destroying his vocal cords.
he actually did scream, I was standing just to the right of the person taking this video and I could hear him over everyone shouting :) they played the recording over the top, to make it closer to the original
I might just be imagining (i.e. projecting, this one kinda got to me this time) but there's emotion in this and the previous song in this performance that I don't think I've ever seen in him before. Oh well. Don't beat yourself up too hard about those vocals there, Dev.
He mentioned after finishing the album that some emotional stuff came back up that he didnt expect, while playing ocean machine he wasn't the jovial sort of character we see most nights.
We had tickets early this year in Bristol were I live, only to find out talking to others that he was doing the whole ocean machine in London, BOLLOX, sorry , 😭
;~) Saw him in Bristol last year And previously with Vai in 93 One the the best live acts, ever. And i'm getting old now and seen hundreds of acts live, many of whom are literally in the grave Bowie Lemmy Bon Scott Randy Rhodes to name only a few! Was next? Ozzy or Iggy
He was talking about how this show came right at the end of an 8 week tour, so he was thanking the audience for their support given how clearly exhausted everyone in the band was.
Notice how we all say "The Scream" not just that he screamed... Love it!
ultimate goosebumps when he stepped back after the scream.
You can see the adrenaline rush as he kneels down, his arm is shaking like a leaf. What a feeling it must have been for him!
I love you Devin Townsend...
Thanks for uploading this, probably one of my all time favorite songs
Thanks for the upload! Concert looked amazing
He actually did the scream. I wish I went.
Fucking NUTTY
I can't decide if he actually did it or not, it sounds too close to the recording to me.

Queen Jamie this is the last song I'm playing at my funeral, including the scream, at least I'll have a smile on my face before I get scorched,😂

What did he say at the end, what was a rough one for the boys?

He said "that was a rough one for the *voice"... which, after a scream like that, I would imagine your voice would suffer a bit, lol.
