All center stages lost their trees when Showbiz did away with Smitty’s backdrop on Billy Bob’s stage and replaced it with the campground stage. The center stage trees were simply moved to Billy Bob’s stage and the gas pump replaced with a lamp post. This was to differentiate Showbiz Rock-afire from competitors who were also buying and adding the Rock-afire during this time.

This timeline is a little off actually. It was originally a Showbiz, then it was converted to Chuck E Cheese as stated. Then after they decided to close Chuck E Cheese they opened it back up as Billy Bob's and converted all of the band back to Rock-a-fire. This was a stand-a-lone restaurant, not owned by Chuck E Cheese(just like Billy Bob's Wonderland in West Virgina still does today), I think all they had to do was pay licensing fees to be able to use the animatronics. This lasted for a few years or so and then closed. Billy Joes which was already an established business in the Lynchburg area for many years moved to this location and then animatronics were still in place from Billy Bob's and they used it until they closed down permanently and then the building was finally demolished two years ago.

Awesome to know more about the history. Even living in Lynchburg for 35 years, I did not know that much about the early history. Also, thank you for using our footage well and giving credit! We have someone earlier this year just completely try to use most of our video as their own. Well done! 😁

From 2009-2011, I attended Liberty University which was about a mile or two south of this former Showbiz Pizza location. When I was there, it still had the Billy Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor signage. I thought that would be a cool place to check out, but it had forever shuttered its doors never to reopen.
I had no idea that it was originally a Showbiz Pizza location and that the Rockafire Explosion band was still there until the restaurant closed for good. Had I not been afraid of getting caught trespassing or running into some deranged individual residing inside it, I would have gone in to see what was left.

i went in one time!! was basically gutted, empty stage, some torn up seats, and a bunch of graffiti / destroyed walls, so so sad :(

Excited for this. I still want to make my own history video on this (I may have connections to someone who has photos/videos of the location) but I'm interested in seeing this and maybe learning something I didn't know about the location.

Good job I was originally going to make a video on this because it sound interesting to me how they got cu and eventually got turned back into rock afire again for the ice cream shop. But still good video

Where did you get the photo of the ice cream parlor when it was open?

Its actually nit unknown as to why it was reopened under billy joes ice cream. The ice cream parlor was started on fort avenue and moved into this building. So there was no actual ties to the old show biz.

What’s the link to the Chuck E. Cheese video in 94?

Showbiz and Chuck e cheese merged into one company and the characters from showbiz were lost due to the rights to the animatronics. So all converted to Chuck e cheese's, some are still open as Chucky e cheese while others are not. There's one showbiz left in WV, but it's called Billy Bob's now.
