Both sound good IMHO. Sorry for the excessive hum, something's very wrong with the electricity in my rehearsal room (just sometimes, I really don't get it :-))
Wow ! In the Gibby 335 V Yammy SA2200 video I felt the Gibso certainly had a more “classic semi hollow tone”. These two are a more even match and when gained up, if I wasn’t watching the video I’d find it hard to believe you were playing a pair of semi’s. I have the Yamaha myself and it’s one of my favourite guitars. I think these two are too close to call for me. Great playing. Thanks for the videos Nicolay. Calven 🤘😎🎸 🇦🇺
I love the adidas! Just need a lada with stripes and you got the Russian Bear happening! But thanks for that. Well done getting your hands on an original as200. See the pat metheny guitar in the background as well...
Great comparison. Both guitars are wonderful and in their own.Generally Ibanez is better in my opinion - Tighter, more mids and high freqs, more high end crisp, especially when overdriven it has more sweeter sound, as i expected.Yamaha isngenerally wonderful guitar,it has archtop like low end and punch.Great playing, too.
awesome playing! In my ears, the yamaha feels like it has more depth in tone and the Ibanez tone are a little bit more brighter, more attack. The AS200 is an awesome guitar, never played the Yamaha but I like the sound just a little bit more than the Ibanez.
Wonderful playing, tone, and choice of music to really give us a comparison worth watching, I would love either guitar, I have a Ibanez AS 200 (2014 model)
It's a pity no one talks about the neck profiles. Which one has the fuller neck? I am unable to test either guitar. Have seen a couple 335s and those necks felt quite weedy.
Clean Iba 0:02 Yam 0:38 Iba 1:14 Yam 1:51 Iba 2:23 Yam 3:00 Dirty lead Iba 3:44 Yam 4:35 (I prefer the rounder, less aggressive Ibanez. HOWEVER, the Yamaha really shined when you added overdrive, which makes total sense. It's obviously set up to cut better at standard EQ settings.)
Bought the SA2200 two Days ago. Very happy with the Guitar. I mean the SA2200 and the AS200 are very similar. In the end the deciding factor was the Price. Ibanez was 2179€, the Yamaha 1749€. So clear thing that i got the Yamaha but as i said... both are very similar, even the Modelnumbers. And btw: excellent playing here. Gladly liked and subbed! :)
great video! i have an sa2200. it's magical on the edge of clipping the preamp in middle position w/ bridge tapped to single. The girth and warmth of the neck now can play with as much jangle and/or faster-attack from the bridge as you like.
Hey Nik, I'm caught at a crossroads. Trying to decide between the Yamaha sa2200 and the Vox Hdc77. What do You think? What is yhe significant differences in sound between the 2 if any benefit one over the other.
Is it just me or you enjoy playing the Yamaha more than the Ibanez? In any case, to my ears, the Yamaha has better clarity and definition that the Ibanez. It would be interesting to know which guitar YOU preferred. :)
Those super58s are the best HBs ever made IMO. GOT nothing against Yammies whatsoever, the SA top models might even have slightly better build quality, at least bindings seem to hold up better than the Ibanez from that era.. but neck profile on the AS fits my hand perfectly. Both are excellent, PUs makes the difference for me personally
that lick your playing at 8minutes, is that down up down up strokes or some legato/picking combination? it sounds so damn fluid and cool, i love those type of licks you seem to bust out and play them a lot :)
He plays that scale like 10 times in the whole vid, it's exactly the same every time. It's hardly a "lick". Very well executed, to be sure. But lacking in any real soul IMO. Alternate picking all the way, BTW
I like more of a direct sound coming from the Yamaha, it may be a little closer to the 335 sound than the Ibanez? Obviously they both sound great in the hands of a great player.
what you should do is let people hear what the guitars sound like acoustically, that will give people an idea of how much wood tone they have and what kind of sustain as well... And then just hit a single note on the guitar in different locations when it's plugged in. .. put the amp on a clean setting to see how much sustain it has... And then do that with a few chords... You're a great player, my name is Gary I live in Philadelphia PA I am gazorbo on RUclips and that's me playing Santana Black Magic Woman on gazorbo Channel....!
@@NikolayKarageorgiev Cool. I have an AS... the flatter radius of the SA makes a difference to me, but I think I like the sound of the SA more... both great guitars :)
Is that a black PM120 in the background there? I almost got one of those - it just seemed to be neither thinline enough nor full on hollow earlier. What's your thoughts?
Coolio, I have a HR (Howard Roberts - he has some excellent books btw. out there) myself from the late 70's, want to get a GB of some sorts but not too keen on name inlays they have. Benson is great and all but it just feels a bit weird to perform with someones name on there. That is what makes the AS200 so cool, those who know will think of Sco but those who don't will not automatically try to connect you with the name on the inlay. Anyway good playing man - If I din't go almost bankrupt buying up polytones I would definitely grab a similar mesa to the one you have - it has such a pleasant immediacy for lag of a better word. Take care;
Thanks for the comment, I know what you mean :-)! BTW, here, for the demo, I am playing with Engl Thunder 50, not with the Mesa, but I really like both amps a lot! Cheers!
+Nikolay Karageorgiev Hi! Did you try changing the inclination of the pickups on the Yamaha by using the two screws that are on the "upper" side of the pickup rings? I think you can get more biting, PAF-like tones by doing so, and you can also make splitted humbuckers sound much fuller.
At some stage in the late 80s Ibanez changed the windings of they’re super58s giving them less bottom end and not as sparkly in the top end. Absolute mistake imho. So the models after 1988 would be better for rock. The models b4 that date better for jazz and blues and warmer bridge pup tone.
I have just bought the IBANEZ JSM10, made in Indonesia, good sounding guitar.......... BUT the frets are not all at the same height so the strings G and B rub, Lame, I am not very happy to have to go to the luthier !!! And what about that dirty black dye on the fretboard that I had to remove !!!!
to me it sounds like the yamaha is more "hollow-sounding" than the ibanez... which also slows down the attack. they both have a very cool appearance and great sound. so how are these guitars comparable value wise? and one last question: do you ever play your mesa combo?
Thanks, I have no idea how much cost the Ibanez, the Yamaha is around 1600 Euro. I play the the Mesa very often, if you want, check some of my other videos.Cheers!!,
yamaha best why? If you check well, the ibañez makes more noise and at the end began to be slightly out of tune by the use and bends. The yamaha in the end feels slightly out of tune but that was due to the guitarist being excited and imposed too much force to the attack. When the metal part begins, the ibanez gets out of control and starts to do feedback, but as a good guitarist he is, he immediately controls it
Some great playing and tones! Which do you find you end up using most? I'm on the fence between the two. Yamaha is significantly cheaper than the Ibanez and both seem to be at about the same quality. I'm also jealous of your PM120 ;) If I could find one of those I'd scoop it up!
Hi my friend You make soloing appear so effortless..... I am a recording artist and would like to improve my playing. Any advice? Google Rukiza Okera. The composer / Me and my guitar. Great playing without saying anything you reviewed 2 guitars... wow!
Somehow, the Ibanez seems more derivative than the Yamaha, as if its soul purpose is to cash in on an established market. The Yamaha seems to have more “soul”. However, that could just be my subjective aversion to the Ibanez brand talking, having only owned a few of their stomp effects and no guitars, basses or amps.
God that yammy is SICK!!!! You are an incredible player btw, props friend.
Great playing! Good to be able to hear A/B testing like this. Now I´ve decided to go for the Yamaha sa2200. Thanks for making it so clear :-)
Oh and great playing. I've checked out your other vids. You are an amazing musician. I like your style..... nice touch.
That was a fantastic comparison!!! They sounded great...

Another killer playing/video comparison from N K. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed your playing, two very close guitars in comparison. I'm planning on getting the Yamaha.
Fabulous player...you make it look so easy Nik when we know it really isn't!
Thanks!
Steve Channing the
I was so wrapped up in guitar comparison I forgot to mention your astonishing playing ability.
Thanks a lot man!!!
When you access the clean tones, you've got the pickup settings set up differently between the 2 guitars.
fucking awesome chops, man!
I wonder if it is the pickups?
If both guitars had a set of lollar imperials, for instance,
would the difference be so great then?
Great comparison. Both guitars are wonderful and in their own.Generally Ibanez is better in my opinion - Tighter, more mids and high freqs, more high end crisp, especially when overdriven it has more sweeter sound, as i expected.Yamaha isngenerally wonderful guitar,it has archtop like low end and punch.Great playing, too.

The sa2200 has a much better neck and better sound
Great playing and tone! Love your videos.
Can I have both guitars?
Your amazing playing made them shine. Thanks for this!
BTW, LOL at the thrash metal at the end of the video.
Wonderful playing, tone, and choice of music to really give us a comparison worth watching, I would love either guitar, I have a Ibanez AS 200 (2014 model)
they both sound really awsome .. slight different texture
It's a pity no one talks about the neck profiles. Which one has the fuller neck? I am unable to test either guitar. Have seen a couple 335s and those necks felt quite weedy.
Hi, I would say the Ibanez has a fuller neck, but just a tad! I also have a 335 , but the neck feels different than both! Cheers
thank you man , good reviuw!
Maaaan youre awesome :)! Gr8 vid :) ...
Hello...what height do you recommend setting the pickups on the Yamaha? Like I've said before...you're crazy good da....master jazzer!
Do you still have both of these? I am drawn to the Yamaha but I am not sure why.
Hi Nikolay, you are playing awesome! could you tell me what kind of skill or style you use at 1:56 that is cool. Thanks man!
kunwu jiang thanks, I am just jamming really, nothing paticularl
Great playing man!
Thank you!!! Cheers!!!
Yamaha pickups are hotter,or closer to the strings? I like the Ibanez a tiny bit more, seems warmer.
I've got the Yamaha SA2200. Great guitar. The Ibanez is very expensive!!
the ibanez is the smoothest sounding
A great video! Great playing on these wonderful guitars! What kind of guitar pick do you use? Keep on rockin' man
Phrase at the beginning of the Who song?
Let's be honest, they both shine, but the true star is sitting against the wall, discreetly dominating all guitars, the Ibanez PM120!
Clean

great video!

what string gauge you're using? sounds really good! you have a very nice hand-tone!
Prefer the AS200 dirt & clean; Yamaha is by no means a 2nd in quality. Just different tastes. Thanks for the video.
Is this guy any relation of the great guitarist/ composer Philip Catherine ?
Hey Nik, I'm caught at a crossroads. Trying to decide between the Yamaha sa2200 and the Vox Hdc77. What do You think? What is yhe significant differences in sound between the 2 if any benefit one over the other.
no comparison. the Yamaha blows Ibanez away. nice playing

dude gots “chops!"
You are fucking good, awesome doing your bussiness show.

I Love both of Hollow tone..My opinion Ibanez little smoothly tone than Yamaha
Great Playing,,,,, :)

Nice man schredder.
For around $200 bucks you can get a reasonable power conditioner to run behind your amps and itll get rid of the hum!
The Yamaha guitar is my favorite.
I like more of a direct sound coming from the Yamaha, it may be a little closer to the 335 sound than the Ibanez? Obviously they both sound great in the hands of a great player.
Yes, the Yamaha sounds close to a 345. The ibanez is to me more woodier, warmer and its core and punch is in a lower register than the yamahas.
8:52 impressing himself!

Borys Pomianek great guitar in my opinion. cheers
the Yamaha has much higher output pups. the Super 58s on the Ibby are total vintage output... otherwise great comparison!
Ibanez sounds warmer (suits with jazz) and yes I'm a Yamaha guy.
excellent video! both are great but more definition on the yamaha!
Hey Nikolay, which one of the 2 guitars do you like better?
Hi, I like them both, the Yamaha is a bit more jazzy, the Ibanez has great bite. Hard to choose really!
Cheers!!
Thanks man. I actually have the same 2 guitars as you, but the solid body versions:
Yamaha SG 1000 and Ibanez Artist :)
Keep up the great playing!

I like yamaha sa2200 better
Yamaha sound is twangy on the attack & sounds cheap on the bends. Could be the strings!
Ibanez sounds crisper. .. but I'm on a budget now soo..... yamaha will get my green blood for now.
Yamaha has more clarity cleaner sound ! Ibanez is mudder sound!
I find the Yamaha too bright. Both nice guitars though
Yamaha wins has clearer fuller woodier tone
Yeah i agreee (more dynamic)
Try another hollow guitar brand from Japan, SeventySeven Guitars.
I would love to, but I don't have one!! Regards!
The Ibanez a tad smoother...
Probably because of the RW board as opposed to Yamaha's ebony?
La Yamaha ha un suono più corposo.
