- A compilation of Siskel & Ebert reviewing the films of Francis Ford Coppola
From The Godfather to The Rainmaker, though since Coppola started before their show came out, they couldn't cover everything (No Godfather Part II, even in retrospect??? No Gardens of Stone, though, either...)
Apocalypse Now is very thoroughly covered. After that coverage, it's in chronological order
Primarily for educational purposes, but enjoy however you see fit!

In 1980, Apocalypse Now was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, but lost out to Kramer vs. Kramer. On their 1980 "If We Picked the Oscars" show, both Siskel and Ebert predicted (as most people did) that Kramer vs. Kramer would win, but Ebert argued that Apocalypse Now was a much better film. He said, "Ten or twenty years from now, Apocalypse [Now] will be remembered and studied, where Kramer vs. Kramer will be seen as a respectable, intelligent Hollywood domestic drama, but nothing terrific." I think it's fair to say he really nailed that one.
It's definitely the superior film.
I’m addicted to these videos. Thank you and Merry Christmas
Ebert was inspiring with his passion for Apocalypse Now.
I miss these two guys and their show. I used to watch it loyally every week. Now there’s nothing.
Thanks for putting together these compilations.
Kermode & Mayo are great.
Each review it seems Gene is gradually liking Apocalypse Now more and more each time.
I noticed the same. He def softened on it. Shame he didn't come around on Cop & a Half lol
I love the little moment where Siskel tells Ebert that he had a convincing defense of the end of Apocalypse Now. These guys fought but they both had integrity and respect for one another.
I appreciate their enthusiasm for The Cotton Club-thoroughly underrated
Hearts of darkness is such an underrated documentary
Merry Christmas Vanilla Skynet! Thanks for all your hardwork. These videos are awesome.
Thank you,Vanilla Skynet, for these wonderful videos-l always used to watch Siskel and Ebert(in their various shows throughout the 1980s and’90s).I hope you are having a lovely and restful holiday season.
Awesome to see Siskel gush about Hearts of Darkness, it's really one of the best documentaries ever.
I also appreciate how he can make a good case about movies I love, like I disagree with him about apocalypse now (and others) but he's not wrong in his criticism.
I love how ebert always gets super upset if gene disagrees with him lol
And vice-versa.
Happy Holidays and Thank you for all the work you’ve done putting together this series.👍
Love your content! Please do the Coen Bros. next if possible.
Eventually!
The Godfather Part One and Two must be watched together always. Masterpieces.
I'm addicted to these videos. God they were young in the initial ones. Good clean fun, interesting and innocent. Not the horrible craziness of today.
These are the best relaxing interesting videos that are neutral...not divisive, interesting. One from the heart! Apocalypse now...hearts of darkness...some of the best movies ever. Obviously godfather.
thanks for doing all these!
Watching Gene Siskel backpedal on his criticism of "Apocalypse Now!" more every year they talk about it is hilarious! He went from hating it and not even wanting to acknowledge any part of the film was good. In their second go at it he admits the first half is great but doubles down on how bad the second half is. To he final review he tells Roger Ebert you just sold me on the ending. LMAO crazy how time can make a man feel different about a film.
To be fair to Gene Siskel I did the exact same thing with "Jackie Brown". I went into the theater expecting another Pulp Fiction kind of crazy ride and absolutely felt betrayed and mislead into hating that movie with a passion. I watched it again for the first time since that day in the theater 25 years ago and I absolutely LOVED it. Now that I'm middle aged I easily identify with the characters and I no longer had a Pulp Fiction expectation and now it's one of my favorite QT Films.
you're great at lying. he didn't say that ebert "sold him," he said ebert was great at selling it, but he still didn't accept it. how about actually listening before going on a rant to confirm your bias that the movie you like is actually the best thing ever made and that everyone who doesn't think so is wrong. get lost bozo
Thank you so much! Your videos are awesome! Can't wait for the next one. Merry Christmas!
Some of the cuts you make are great!
Thanks!!! You gotta try de palma and spielberg
They're coming!
@@Vanilla_Skynet😬thank you!
@@Vanilla_Skynet thx
I have a feeling Siskel & Ebert love The Godfather
Thank you for these videos!
If you take recommendations, can you do director Adrian Lyne's movie reviews next?
OMG...you rock....happy holidays!!!!
13:21 for Gene Siskel Shorts goldmine.
"Now available on cassette!"
May you live long enough to do some for my movies !! 🥂
Thank you thank you thank you!
I wish they would’ve touched on the historical significance/symbolism of Wagner
While some critics have said that Apocalypse Now was a modern psychedelic fantasy based around Robert Conrad’s book Heart of Darkness, AN hit a nerve with veterans who saw the surreal nature of the film as akin to what they went through In Vietnam.
"THE LIVES OF OTHERS" FOLLOWS THE CONVERSATION AS A GOOD SURVEILLANCE FILM!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Wish these guys had the same attitude about box office flops in regards to The Cotton Club when Heaven's Gate came out.
Siskel: "On occasion, I'm told, eavesdropping is done, in Russia..?"
Ebert: *steady gaze, hint of sly grin, no comment*
Lord these two were hilarious together..
Coppla can't do wrong!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎😎
Yeah, New York Stories - Coppola's bit is the weakest part of the film.
i love the ending of Ap now. sorry gene
"High on booze"?
AN is great until the final act. Sorry, I never saw the big deal about Brando's Kurtz. He is basically half asleep reciting a College freshman's essay on the Vietnam War.
I agree with gene on Apocalypse Now. It was overrated. Some good scenes, but over all just didn't go anywhere.
I enjoyed it but I agree I don’t love it as much as everyone else seems to hold it in such high esteem.
I think the Kurtz stuff is weak. Most of it is phenomenal.
Another episode of Ebert making siskel look dim. Siskel seems so detached from everyday man. Fratboy intellectual.
After the conversation, Francis really hadn't made a great movie.
peggy sue got married, ap now, dracula. 🧛. makes a good wine too
@@daytripperhd Dracula was dreadful, Pegg sue aight, Apocalypse Now over rated.
