I enjoyed this video because you explain the process. I used to build roll off trucks and I installed PTOs and warning buzzers for the hoist when it goes up and a bunch of other stuff! It wasn’t a bad job just repetitive. Great fix
Gotta have battery power, ignition power and grounds where they are supposed to be for it to work right, good job keeping it simple. What the customer wants, the customer gets. Nothing wrong with running a fused ignition wire straight to the ecm.
I shall kneel at Wally's feet. He certainly is an electrical specialist. Henceforth, he shall be known as Dr. Wally. I can not imagine diagnosing that. Great job.
Welp I'm in the same predicament ecm has power but not reading any codes I ran a power straight to the 70 pin from the battery still no start so now I'll run it into the ignition and hope it will start
Awesome video!!! I'd love to see more videos like this. There's a whole bunch of automotive channels that how car diagnostics, but there aren't many youtubers out there doing heavy truck and diesel diagnostics.
Ooooo!!!! Electric problems, hate 'em, hate 'em!!! Glad you found the problem and fixed it. I had kinda the same problem on 2005 Freightliner, only it derated the engine, but to fix the problem I had to replace the engine wire harnesses. Of course there is more to the story but essentially it was replace the wire harnesses to fix the problem. Nice video Clay.....
I’m having the same issue on a 03w900l. I was doing the same thing when a wire shorted and blew a fuse. Replaced now truck won’t start. When I check the harness And pin #70 is hot with key but still doesn’t run. What wire or PIN number did you run a straight wire from
At least it's got a kitty better than a dreaded Cummins or mx13 if he has to have a Pete I would replaced any wiring needed to be right the newer ones got a whole more problems than a working harness
Pin 70 is key hot but pin 52 & 53 are constant hot on the P1 connector So we got no power out of the cab to the pin 70 boy I would of liked to see you guys back track that wire wire a fluke tone tracker to see were the break was
Not sure I know they did some wiring behind the dash and he washed the engine when he did the light install ? Not sure why it broke but it was from firewall back
Some times you half to look at other connections I went through this and followed all tests and it not just a fuse. I shorted out a wire and found another fuse in the sleeper that need replacement also on peterbilt namux 1 2 3 multiplex system use the diagnostics service software it will tell you what wrong and resetting the system. Food for though. I own my peterbilt 389 and if you don't want to deal with diagnostic equipment Don't bypass system it will become a fire hazard without knowing what happened.
I assume you DID wat he the video and not skim through it? I clearly said in the video we told the owner of the truck we could find and fix the wire or we could do it this way and he’s the one that made the choice of how it is done.
Great to see some heavy truck repair! Getting tired of tool infomercials.
i had a similar problem on a 337 and i found that there is some fuses underneath the truck..
Thank y’all so much for this video, I have a 2001 Pete 378 with the 60 series, basically the exact same situation and I was able to fix it

I get this a lot on construction equipment. Great video thanks for taking the time
wish you guys did more like this

Awesome video, keep showing the repair end of the business.

You guys are awesome thank you for this tip!!!
Hey brother I got same problem but what wire did you do the test on to ecm please help I have 7months working on it
Dead kitty.... well, Clay and Wally revived it. I hope it'll get all 9 lives back.
379 Peterbilt's also have a 5 prong relay in the dash down by the steering column for the ignition switch to the ecm to turn it on and off
Good video y'all have a good one and stay safe 👍

Yeah all the harnesses are wicking oil or fuel so it’s not gonna be long he will have to replace them anyways.
Awesome tip!
The electrical system gremlins yippee
Great truck a sweet pete with a Cat. Does get any better. Where is wild bill?

@Lo Kim no i think they dont hv any for the most part some do have run relays down in the corner that water gets them older units
Thanks for sharing the info but don’t share too much, wise man once said don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Will the check engine light work key on engine off?
Any clue what that happen? Just a break in the wire or....?

Koon Trucking 👍🏼 not in the Diesel industry but a lot applies to the motorcycle world so thanks for the videos.
