Not only my grandpa was German - I am German! I am a fan, and it's pronounced almost like Matt suggests, but not Tabaaac, but Tābac. Both vowels short and emphasis on the first one.
I started using Tabac products when I first started wet shaving about 40 years ago, and have used the shave soap sticks ever since.
I got a bottle of the aftershave in the mid 1990s as an Xmas present from my mum, a couple of years before she passed away. I still have that bottle 🙂

I rediscovered Tabac recently - my dad always used to use it. I wear it regularly - I love the smell!
I love Tabac a lot and using since I bought it first in Germany in 1984
There is no other scent out there like Tabac it’s all masculine with no foo foo la la. Performance is one of the best for the price.
Okay so I have a ton of fragrances and Tabac is my favourite by far - interestingly, when Chanel No. 5 is left for a few days the scent that is left is to my nose 90-95% Tabac (I found this out today in fact).
As for old spice, I find the resemblance to be slight, or even passing. As a scent, Tabac destroys it in sophistication and pleasantness. Honestly, old spice simply smells rough and unrefined in comparison.
Also, _Eau de Cologne_ means "water of Cologne" - which was the name given to the first commercial men's fragrance invented by Johann Maria Farina when he moved to the city of Cologne and which fragrance is now known today as 4711. Yes, 4711 the citrus-y fragrance is the very first commercial mens "cologne"
Shave soap is the best - creamiest - slickest shave soap i have ever used - great smell - loved their deodorant also !

When my grandfather used it I didn't like the scent and when my father used it I didn't liked it either. This was the first soap I bought when I started wetshaving and I absolutely love the scent :)

Back in the 80’s when I was kid, first thing entering bathroom in the morning was this tobacco leathery smokiness scent left after my dad had a shave. For me personally, the manliest scent ever.

It’s my new favorite! I stopped into Razor Emporium about a month ago to drop off a Fatboy for the revamp service and took a whiff of this. WOW! Bought some oil for preshave but it wasn’t enough. Ordered the lotion a day later. Love it. Great video!

I have the aftershave which I like the most from their product lineup.
It's a masculin smell indeed and each time I use it, I travel back in time; remembering my father happy and freshly shaved, ready for a brand new day :-)
Bought a Tabac puck for the first time last month. The soap lathers very well and find the scent to be floral and powdery.
In the 60s/70s there was a ballet add. My sister and I tried to copy it. As a result she fell flat in het face. Would love to see that again. We both would. ^_^
Not only does it remind me of Grandpa - I AM Grandpa: in fact, I’ve been Grandpa since I began wearing TABAC around 1961 (pronounced TA-BA’ , accent on first syllable, silent C - though a German product, the name is French; the German for ‘tobacco’ is TABAK, pronounced TA’BAK, accent on the first syllable hard K).
I learned from Tabac when I saw a video of a German youtube introducing After Shaves and Colognes used by grandfathers and fathers. And he also mentioned Tabac and I love this scent!
I love Tabac. I have the shaving soap and it is a good quality product. Fantastic scent, good lather and slickness. The soap is also easy to lather in hard water!
I have the shave soap, Aftershave, edc Cologne and body wash. Phenomenal scent, timeless, rich and classic!
I shave with Tabac soap and aftershave every Tuesday morning . I call it Tabac Tuesday. Love the stuff but I’ve got a million other soaps and creams that I have to use up. Sometimes I think that when the other stuff is all gone, I’ll just use Tabac for the rest of my life. It’s doubtful that I’ll actually do that … but I could!

if you like the scent, it is the same scent with tobacco cologne, which you can find in turkish markets or in turkey itself
I have the shave stick, the after shave lotion, after shave balm and deodorant stick! I have also used the deo spray. It's an awesome set to have!

As a traditional wetshaver I have come back to Tabac Original. love this stuff. yes it reminds me on the good old days when I was a young boy spending time with my loved grandpa. (70s)

this spicy scent begins soapy, clean and transforms more and more into sweet.
For some guys this scent is outdated.
but as a mature man and traditional wetshaver I am a big fan;)
You havent mentioned the EDT. which has come out later. It is a different scent than the other stuff (but still in harmony.I think can be used together.)
German blood runs through my veins along side that of several other ethnicities....I am a pure Mutt and proud of it. Danke Schoen. :D

Its a chain here in norway called normal, got all stuff for cheap and normal brought tabac to norway, i use their deo every day!! I just loooove it, its warm, cozy, spicy😍😍😍

Tabac is great! Everyone should at least have the soap in their shave den. I recently bought a refill puck. From Razor Emporium of course.
Ever since I was a kid I did not like the smell of tabac.
Since I got to wet shaving I wanted to give it another chance, and bought the shave soap when I was in Austria.

Love you guys. You all are the reason I got into wet shaving. I actually just got a new Gillette super speed. You are spot on with the old man smell. When I was younger I used to hate but now I love the feeling the Tabac smell gives a sense of life accomplishment.
Got the Tabac shave stick in a RE Mystery Box...still working on adding it into the rotation, but the smell is great!

That is my daily fragrance, shaving soap tablet luxury soap for showering, the splash on after shave and the spray on, every day. P.S.I live in the Netherlands and unfortunately I see the brand here less often lately so I usually order it in stock.
I love Tabac. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks but it’s been my go to. I have the shaving stick, the soap+bowl, the Eau de cologne, and I just ordered the EDT from you guys. Not only is it my go to in terms of shaving but also my signature scent.
Recently bought my first tube of Tabac cream. I notice a wonderful mild scent off of the open tube that seems to be stronger when lathered. Do I smell a "tweed" scent that dissipates shortly? Is the aftershave and cologne scent the same as cream? Does the "tweed" note remain with aftershave or does the milder overall scent take over? The "tweed" portion is my only complaint with the cream as it is a bit sharp. BUT- what a wonderful shave. On par with Proraso which has been my go to.
I love Tabac, one of the best performing soaps ever. My Greatgrandfather already used it, so do I.

Tabac's formula has been maintained so much better than Old Spice's formula. P&G completely ruined OS, or at least they ruined the cologne version while the aftershave IMO still smells great, but Tabac smells absolutely amazing still in 2022 and I would feel comfortable wearing it in public even, I think it's a timeless scent although I guess it could remind some people of their grandpa or their dad or whatever. I don't care, I love those kinds of scents as much as I like the more modern higher end stuff. There's something really comfortable about wearing Tabac or Old Spice or Brut, they have that old timey charm.

Love Tabac. The soap is a lather beast! I have the balm (stings a little) and the cologne. The smell is addicting though some may not like it. I aim to always have the soap. Thanks for the video.
The shaving line is only the beginning: there is also bath soap, body wash, deodorant, hair lotion, and hair cream. I've got the shave line, bath soap, body wash, and deodorant, and am going to get the hair lotion and hair cream as soon as I find a seller that won't rip me off, ha ha!

I am a little puzzled that you compared tabac with old spice? I see those as two totally different genres. Both wonderful but both totally different. If I had watched this video only 30 mins earlier I’d have utilized tabac for my shave of the day!

One of my favourites. It always takes me back to my father and my grandfather (both dead) who used both the shaving mug plus soap and the After Shave. And when I open the bottle they are right there with me.

Just to let you know that I love love (LOVE) the distinctive fragrance TABAC (TA - BOC) and it has this attractive like musky smell that it reminds me of if you might remember Jovan's Musk that my beloved Grandad he used wear that every day from every single day of his life bless him, and to TABAC that I got from an amazing charity shop that sold a decent clear bag of TABAC Aftershave, Deodorant and the Antiperspirant Spray and I was actually impressed with the 3 items only by £3 - $3.66 and i was impressed with the price came to the 3x TABAC items.
I wear TABAC on sometimes everyday single day if I want a bit of a musky smell on me, depending on my mood but all in all TABAC is a lovely fragrance and I am huge fan of their fragrances and that fragrance may be in the 1950's but I do love a bit of retro fragrances too 😊, because I'm a retro kind of person who loves a bit of nostalgic things like TABAC for example.

I love Tabac, it’s not that common, mature and seductive. Women seem to notice it more as it’s not your typical Boss, CK or run of the mill pee! I love the shave stick too!

The oil is also shave oil IT protect the skin very good. I use IT for pre shave. The smell is like Grandpa but very good for me. The soap is one of the best i know.
I love Tabac and yes it smells like grandpa but it still smells amazing. I think the comparison to Old Spice was spot on. It's in the same "vibe" but where Old Spice is very linear. It's good but simple. Tabac has some spice but it has a lot more depth a more complex Old Spice :)
Tabac original is the coolest shaving soap, at least in my opinion.

I only have the soap. For me it is a unique sent that had to grow on me. It is good stuff and performs great.

Tabac, emphasis on the first a.. My favourite soap & aftershave, & one of my favourite colognes.. Eau de Cologne was invented in Cologne, Germany, 4711 being the first, but marketed primarily in Paris, hence the ‘Eau’.. Now 4711 & Tabac are both owned by Maurer & Wirtz...

Maybe less popular in the United States. But in Europe it's very popular.
I've always loved the fragrance Tabac had, funnily enough one of the biggest changes this product has made from when I first start using it in the late 70's early 80's is that back then it had the reputation of being a cheap/budget smelling product. Whereas of now it is sought after.
ps. Still don't like the smell of one of their most iconic fragrances, 4711. Both my grandmothers used the stuff and I love them dearly, but that I could do without.

Hi Matt. Great and enthusiastic presentation of TABAC. The shave cream in the tube has always been in my den, as it is also very handy for traveling, like the elegant push-up shave stick. The AS and EdC/EdT are not my favourites though. YMMV.
lol .. I remember we had a dusty old tabac bottle in the bathroom cabinet when I was a kid in the 70's .. I always think it smelled like pee when my dad used it occationally

Love this stuff. Makes a great lather and the shave is very luxurious. Pronunciation is pretty good. Other comments already stated to make it a bit more german :) And I really don’t get why americans make sounding the ‘eau’ such a struggle. In french it’s like ‘oh’. There’s nothing more to it. Same as with the french wordt for water, l’eau which is pronounced like ‘lo’.

Please never try to do german again 🤣 I am 55 and came back to Tabac when I was maybe 40 (?)my Dad used it. I am German by the way, living in Australia and you can get it here as well. My absolute everyday use product.
I wish someone could demystify the EdC vs. EdT situation. Fragrantica is no help, and reviews are scarce. I hear the notes are fairly dissimilar.
