The Legend of Knife Lake - BWCA

  • In 2021 I headed Knife Lake, one of the most legendary lakes in the Boundary Waters Canoe area Wilderness. Knife Has arrowhead quarries that date back almost 12,000 years, the oldest known human activity in Minnesota. This lake was also the home to Dorothy Moulter, better known as “The Root Beer Lady”, the last permanent resident of what is now an amazing and unique federal wilderness.
    This lake is massive, deep and clear with a seemingly endless series of complex bays, islands and branches. Straddling the border with Canada, this incredibly blue water has clarity close to 30 feet, with depths approaching an impressive 200 feet. This sparkling body of water also poses a new set of challenges than the smaller more stained lakes I am used to fishing in the BWCA. A combination of gentle winds, time on the water and good luck will all be needed to find the Walleye, Bass, Pike and ever elusive Lake Trout that stalk the darkness in depths of these waters.

    There is nothing i look forward to more in life than waking up to that beautiful sunrise after the long trek in the first day in the Boundary Waters. The last 2 years we went there was a couple of swan that swam around with each other on the lakes we stayed at. we even watched a male swan swoop in and challenge the male that was already mating last year. You see all kinds of cool stuff out there where people are few and far between. On top of it anyone you canoe past is just happy to see you out there. It's a very special place.

    Cool trip!
    I'd rather catch smallies than Walleye all day! My last few trips, was ON Walleye. Targeting bass..
    Ironic I know.
    Cool video!

    Thanks for sharing your trip. Watched the whole thing. 2021 was a tough fishing year on the east side of the BWCA as well 😔. Last year was much better. Caught my PB walleye.

    Knife is an excellent lake, second in my mind only to lac la croix. Both are gems and the laker fishing can be truly phenominal.

    Still yet to get my first Laker, but I admit I haven’t tried too hard. Enjoyed the video and nice wilderness shots in between the fishing. Cheers!

      Thanks Matt! Took multiple years to figure it out. Once you get in the groove its just patience. Such a thrill when they break the water.

    Hey guys! Love the videos. Heading to seagull et. al. In a few days. Wondering what your big green screen house is called and where you got it and how heavy it is. Looks really nice! Thanks for putting videos together to keep me excited for the next trip!

      Appreciated! Big tent is a lifesaver. Nemo bugout I believe? I have a 9x9 and a 12x12. Eureka makes one too that is almost identical. I have never seen in person though. Big one is 4 or 5lbs maybe? Poles are optional but help. they probably add 3 or 4 more lbs. I am not sure Nemo makes them anymore but you can find them. Some outfitters rent them too..

    What's the trick to keeping your leeches alive the whole trip?

    • @AnglingUploaded
      @AnglingUploaded  2 месяца назад

      put them next to a bag of frozen pork chops on the way in. transfer to a leech locker and keep em in the lake. We've brought in 2lbs before and needed them!
