Love or hate it, bryan is a powerful vocalist in his consistency. He never lowers his register during the entire set. Few vocalists can do that in such a high register. Also this is a stylistic choice. Bryan actually has a semi deep voice

The smaller crowds in smaller venues is where this band goes hardest. This larger venue doesn't compare to a compact, mosh ridden, vicious hardcore show. Knocked loose for life baby.

The band still sounds great. Has new good music and is still pushing the genre forward. They’re getting these bigger venues (deserved) but this will never be as hard as watching people storm the stage. They deserve the fame and bigger stages. But man it ain’t the same
If you look up their Coachella videos, they convinced the festival to go without a barrier.. and it's pretty awesome. Coachella is about 5-6x bigger than this festival, too.
You're right that they go hardest when the crowd can be one with the band -- which is basically the foundation of hardcore, really. I would love to see them continue to push for no barrier stages, even at festivals, in the future!

It's moshing/hardcore dancing/slam dancing. Generally they aren't trying to hit someone deliberately, it just happens. If you don't know what a hardcore is you should probably just stay out of the pit during a breakdown and you should be safe.
