Diving foreword can be problematic. The board will more then likely follow you and hit you very hard. Best thing to do is stay crouched on your board and punch out the back at the last second.
Good vid. Question about foot placement. Do you do anything special when getting up so your feet land forward on the board? I’m usually moving my feet after I’m up but it looks like you’re landing forward already.
How do you like not hurt your knees when the wave closes out on you with a lot of power? I heard of people saying you're supposed to dive forward as the wave closes out but what if its a shore break and its shallow?

One good barrel tip I learned from watching the footage - if there's a good wave and someone else is on it, BURN them and get tubed. A question I have for you, Mr. Sullivan: I keep getting burned on all of the good waves at Salt Creek, so when I'm in the barrel a wall of water comes down on my head and I can't make it out. Any tips??
Something I struggle with is getting into the wave when its steep, is the best tip to paddle super hard and put back foot closest to engaged rail? Also sometimes I deal with air dropping and the wave runs away from me, any tips?
Yeah to me this sounds like a paddling issue. Just work on strengthening your paddle. I've even heard Slater talk about a wave where he air dropped and he was saying he remembers that wave and he felt like he wasn't paddling hard enough. So I would work on that part of it and see if you have improvements.
These are my new favorite videos!!! Keep ‘em coming!

Straight through the face brother; you closeout on the closeout.
