    Thanks for the nice comments down here, also been a pleasure to talk to Ahmed one on one, hearing people going through a similar thing and rationalising that sort of mental block from different perspectives was quite the ride, my solution usually was just push through it and ignore the mental state which now seems borderline self destructive, Ahmeds solution is a bit more subtle ,going back and analyzing your life and finding the root of the problem.

    Concerning the first part of this video, I recently was gifted a book on Norman Rockwell where Rockwell explains his creative flow. It's titled "Rockwell on Rockwell" (How I make a picture by Norman Rockwell). Back in his day (I would pair it with concept art for video games, movies, graphic novels, etc today) he would have to provide art for magazines, advertisements, etc. The same idea applies for any concept art, and one of his techniques for creative flow is just to do a sketch of an idea I.E. a sailor leaning on a lamp post, and he does more sketches that stem from that original idea. From the book, "I draw a lamp post, with a sailor leaning on it drunk... I know that sailors have to sew their own clothes, how about I draw a sailor that cant sew, having his mother sew his clothes. Lets add a dog to the sketch, well next I could do a kid with a sick dog giving him medicine..."
    I was in a rut for a while, couldnt come up with a decent idea for a painting. I tried this technique and it helped me get out of my comfort zone. Helped me force myself to be creative. Another thing that helped me get back into creating art was to force myself to spend at least 30 minutes sketching. Some of it studies of other artist's work, some of it just basic still life, some just anatomy studies.
    The best thing you can do is make sure that you see artwork constantly. Online, from your peers, from entertainment. I found that social media addiction kept me from staying involved with art. I counteracted that by following a lot of art groups so my feed is filled with art. Ive been trying to get into art communities where there are contests. Healthy competition will help you improve. Being open to critiques will help. Ive found that the most harsh critiques will be a stronger push to better yourself. I know this is a pretty long comment. Ive been artistically blocked for at least 2 years. Prior to that ive been painting for 13 years constantly. I hope this comment helps some of my fellow artists get out of their funk.
    Im not a great artist, im okay, but in the words of Michelangelo, "I am always learning."

    I would appreciate if you answer this, cause I don't know what to do with it. So whenever I have a cool idea in my mind and its like picture perfect clear and detailed and all that cool stuff inside my head and I "see" it and I'm going like "Holy this is awesome I gotta draw this!" but when it comes to actually drawing it my brain just deletes this image entirely or I'm trying to imagine the details again and they're just vanishing. Long story short do I teach my hand to draw what I imagine? XD I know its a pretty dumb and basic question but it doesn't go away with practice either. It's been with me for several years already and I just don't know what to do.

    • @EliasBaracuda

      @dreamingsophie5792 6 лет назад

      Oh, that's a tough question... but also a very good one^^
      I'd say, whenever you have an idea, just start doing really really rough sketches just to pin down the idea. Don't get to concerned with detail or anatomy/ perspective. That's at least what I would do, i often have really cool ideas whilst knowing I won't be able to draw it the way I want it to be. At least that way you'll have your ideas "saved" and can maybe come back to them later. Didn't really answer your question, hope this'll helps anyway

    • @Jas-hi9nb
      @Jas-hi9nb 6 лет назад +1

      You should try a process called thumbnailing. Basically, once you get an idea, immediately just sketch out the gist of the composition, any major colors, that stuff. It's very quick and easy to do, especially if you have trouble remembering ideas. Then, once you're ready to actually draw it, do several more thumbnails of the same concept to work out what does and does not work. Don't stress over tiny details that you may end up forgetting - after you do a couple iterations of a composition, you develop a strong idea for a piece anyway, and it becomes stronger because you've already imagined it so many times.
      Anyway, that's my two cents. Hope you find something that works for you! xx

    Hey Med, this question/request might be off topic for your channel, heck, you might be tired of hearing about it. But I was wanting to know what your thoughts would be on the whole Battlefront 2 fiasco, insight from someone who has worked in the industry. Are micro transactions justified or is it just to exploit human flaws for more gains to the higher ups? Would a raise in price to video games be justified? Like I said, I’m not sure if this would be on topic, but how would all this effect an artist? I assume you would look at this matter through the eyes of a gamer and an employee of the industry.
    Thanks, man.

    Can you please address the following issue because I think me and many other would-be artists face it. Is practicing art supposed to be fun? For example, learning anatomy is not fun. Trying and failing to make beautiful art is not fun. How do you know if you're cut out to be an artist if you're feeling the pain that comes with artistic growth vs. just going through a phase that's painful? I'm worried that because I'm not enjoying the hard work that goes into being an artist and I'm not sure whether I'm more in love with the idea of being an artist than actually being an artist. I would say that creating good art is gratifying but it's not fun. Please tell me, if that's the case, should I be spending my life doing something else? I'm at a crossroads where I really need to give up and do something I truly love, or whether toiling away at art (and suffering) is part of the process... that art isn't always supposed to be fun and enjoyable?

    • @syntheticsynesthete2542
      @syntheticsynesthete2542 6 лет назад

      if you want to ascend as an artist you need to love the process. I think that is the core of what drives passion. I hate making landscapes but i do it anyway because I love the process of trying to get better. There are lots of ways to game yourself into doing what you dont love but is necessary. JP talks about planning out your day. You do not have to design your days doing nothing but things you hate. Design a day you will like and sprinkle in some necessities. You can apply this towards art. Make most of what you like and make yourself do something for future you. If you truely -truely find nothing about the arts enjoyable other then the end result then save yourself some suffering, and apply that same grit towards something else. Beleive me that type of grit is useful, in many fields, and youll get paid more.

    • @PozerWolf
      @PozerWolf 6 лет назад +1

      I think I have an answer to that, and hope it helps.
      Basically, to fall in love with art, try to remember why you got into art to begin with. Are you trying to create stories? Awesome characters? Awesome landscapes? Crazy monsters? Basically, let's say you want to make a cool robot, Mega Man or whatever (it can be anything, but let's use Mega Man as an example for now). Draw them out the best way you can from your head. It's going to look bad, but knowing it looks bad is a Good start. Now it's on paper, and you see it, it's shit. But at this point, think of your inspirations. Think of other "robot" type other characters and check them out, think "well, how was astro boy drawn? what shapes are being used" etc etc.
      The more you try to fix your character, the more you're gonna want to learn. All these anatomy books you're reading might feel pointless to you. But, if you're attempting these "robot character" I mention, you may ask yourself simple stuff like "well, how will the neck of my robot connect to the shoulders of his torso", and thus you'll actually rush back to those anatomy book and WANT to learn more even re-reading chapters you've already read but this time with glee. You will turn One Hour of struggling to learn, to "wtf, I wish I had more time to fix my character with this hour!!" in this processes
      Draw what you love. Draw what you love. Draw what you love.
      Find out what challenges you, tackle those problems first. If you try to learn things for the sake of learning, you'll never obtain anything that way.

      Artistry Artistry well dont just study boring stuff. Study it for a while and then draw what ever you want. 50% practice 50% fun

    • @WadWizard
      @WadWizard 6 лет назад

      Im wondering something similar, ive allways wanted to make things, its allways been all about the product, i might have enjoyed the process in class cause i was bored but im not getting away from anything now.
      I honestly most of the time find the process quite boring, but i really care about the thing im trying to make, people allways say to focus on enjoying the process not the product, but the product is all i care about... if i didnt focus on the end goal i dont feel id really be the same person and i dont know how to do both... enjoy thinking, but the doing is just time between thinking it and making it(well hopefully making it, not allways very perfect)

      Malak M so instead of properly learning something , like Ahmed did by studying stuff like that by himself , you would rather just watch someone do it because he already has an accomplished way of doing it. I understand you wanna see the artists you like in action , but thats not the point of tutrials. You have two options 1.learn it the hard way by actually doing it by yourself
      2.pretend like trying to learn the thing by just watching a video instead of actually looking at it and slow down your learning process and the quality of your work

    • @laki2458
      @laki2458 6 лет назад +1

      Drawin Stuff Okay slow down. How would you know the people asking for tutorials DON’T learn the “hard way” or whatever you want to address it? Do you have a solid proof that they just watch tutorials to give them the sense of accomplishment without doing a single job done? Okay sure maybe some people, maybe you used to be like that, but not all people are like this you know? To be honest I really don’t have the need to prove myself to you giving you evidence of hard work, but don’t just go around judging people bashing them assuming they don’t do studies and they don’t put hours and hours of work every day to get better. I merely was curious about how Ahmed came up with this style. So anyway, basically what you’re saying is “don’t ever ask others! Only learn it the HARD way. Because asking is CHEATING. Tutorials are HACKS and that’s cheating.” Well then why you’re here in a channel that do tutorials.. it’s cheating right? He give us “shortcuts”, we just watch him draw all day and we don’t work.
