My favorite thing about Rodney is, he isn’t one of those guys who you feel like is “acting humble” or anything, he literally has like zero awareness how just how good and legendary he is. He’s just a normal, nice dude.

The guy invented the flatground ollie and a majority of the tricks people use today, there'd almost be no skateboarding as its known now today without him. Genius.

@@TheLurkerAtTheThreshold If you're talking about Alan Gelfands vert ollie thats a vert trick. He did invent the flat ground ollie. He was one of the only skaters that even bothered with flat ground anything. The Vert ollie is a totally different trick if you think about it but its essential to master "FOR VERT TRICKS". The flat land ollie involves jumping. The Vert ollie involves pulling your knees in over the coping. If you jump on a vert ollie you'll throw yourself off the ramp....its not a good sensation.... Gelfands technique involves your momentum forward, Mullens ollie is vertical. Its like comparing a nollie varial kickflip to a varial heelflip just.....no.....
@@KingOz. Maybe, but back in those days nobody really gave a shit about skateboarding. Especially if you weren't from California. It was seen as a little kids toy. And grown ups seen playing with it back in the day were thought of as low lifes. Not that that perception changed when it boomed again in the 90s...but its come a long way since then to the point where its seen as a healthy sport and you have cities build parks around it. Back in my day you couldn't find a park if you wanted to, so you had to skate street and pick up on what people like mullen were using especially if you were poor.... because...well...there are no bowls or boxes in the city LOL. You just fuckin ride until you find something that looks like a box, or looks like a rail (AKA shit that companies build that doesn't have full guard railing or cheap schematics) AND BOOM you're suddenly looking at a kick ramp a stair, a rail with no posts, and a nice sized 2 foot tall box. Wax that shit up and boom you got your own skatepark sorta... as long as the business owner doesn't see you there to call the cops, and as long as you don't go out of your way to leave too much of a trace you're gold.
I mean sure we can say well maybe someone somewhere would have bothered inventing tricks that you could do without a skatepark....but....back then nobody really gave a shit enough to do it except mullen LOL.

He's erased his normal stance, so I think he sees switch, nollie, etc now in terms of probably how he started on the board prior. He doesn't consider himself having any sort of regular stance anymore.

Man been going down the hawk, mullen rabbit hole. Takes me back to a kid, I haven't skated regularly in about 15 years. But watching these two brings the joy back and I want to get a board again. Just to do some old man tricks. They make me feel like a kid again. I also love how close these two are.

I think it's so awesome that he said Bryan Herman was his favorite!! Bryan has been hands down my favorite skater ever since i first saw the baker 3 video and i think he always will be. I also watched a video like last year or something where Reynolds also says he thinks Bryan is the best.

Technically fakie is just a name for riding backwards its a subjective term just like most skateboarding tricks for example nollie impossibles are technically front foot impossibles but most will call the other trick with the frontshuv a front foot impossible it's subjective, technically fakie is switch nollie if you're ambidextrous and have no stance

Daewon has said the same thing. Although he now uses the "fakie" standard. Many people used in the 90s the terminology of "switch nollie".

Man, I watched him doing plenty of tricks. Every of them is like a calling of the nature. But, casperslide 360 is the most amazing trick I've ever seen.
Its so crazy to think about how many tricks and variations of said trick there are and for him to of literally invented them is insane
anything you put in your body that affects your nervous system can be considered a drug. food, medicine, herbs, anything that causes a response. doesn't really matter anyway, they are just words. "drug" a concept that society forces onto us.

Anonymous User Rodney comes from so far back that there was still a legit difference between nollie and fakie. Namely that fakie was skating tail first (a lot easier to picture if you think big 80s fishtail boards) and nollie was popping off the nose (which again at the time was significantly different, not like today's basically symmetrical popsicle decks)
I've also heard him use the term switch fakie, which I can only assume means switch, but rolling backwards.
