During their entire marriage, she was pretending to be the perfect housewife for the sake of her mother. After falling for Mikio, she finally felt like she could be vulnerable. After being vulnerable and he asking, "I want to see all of you, not who your mother wants you to pretend to be," She did just that. Showed her true self and beauty. To her, that "fight" was a dance. It was her way of showing her passion and he called her a monster, just like everyone else did her entire life. He betrayed her way before the guys came looking for her.

Mizu was already packing herself away again before he betrayed her - putting on feminine clothes and makeup again and resigning herself to a much narrower gender role than even the one she met him in. This series is so good because Mizu is ‘other’ not just because of race but also in gender expression and role.
And even tho and even he sold her horse, she put a make-up on, waiting for him and being ready to say sorry. Even when she didn't do anything. But he left her behind. I guess we will never knoe where the truth was lying when she killed him after what happened. But he definitely was the one who started it.
She'll never find happiness, I think she might die after finding the last white man. Either she'll get killed in a duel by Taigen or she'll let her revenge be the only thing she lives for, to the point where completing it makes her life meaningless.

I love how they framed this segment to show that whoever committed the betrayal of turning her over didn't matter. Both the people who she loved had ultimately betrayed her long before it got to that point.

Throughout this whole episode, I was waiting for the ball to drop. It warmed my heart seeing Mizu actually happy and content, but I knew that if Mizu was the cold, stone resolved person she is now, something had to have happen to turn this fairytale into a nightmare. It still breaks my heart though... 💔

Spoilers From what I watched he got scared of how aggressive she was and didn’t like it I do agree he shouldn’t have called her a monster but can you imagine someone you love putting a sword up to your neck after you wanted to stop fighting. but from what I can tell I don’t think he turned her in I’m 100% it was the mom but again I could be wrong but how she was acting was suspicious at the least.

Episode 5 is the best one. All three narratives are pretty good and the way it all comes together was masterful.
