Clever use of the acorn nut and washers as a bearing surface.
I was thinking the other day that I need to make some of these.
There is few versions of this on the net but in the end I used what I had in the workshop🤣

What size and type of wood are you using for the foot of the clamp? The acorn nut and washers to make it swivel is brilliant. Also what size hole saw and forstner bit are you using? I am asking because I tried this with pine and it just rips out when you use the forstner bit to make the opening so I think a hardwood is needed for this along with the correct size for the hole saw and forstner bit.

Enjoyed the video but I'm curious to see if that rod actually slightly widens the 20mm holes as it seems to put a fair amount of pressure on the side of the hole. Armor tool have a threaded rod which cuts into the side of the hole and over time would definitely widen the hole. I like using the "L" shaped clamps which go through the holes and under the bench for that reason. Other than that a great DIY project.

Great Video Thomaz. Just done a MFT and now looking to follow up with accessories. Never cut aluminium with a mitre saw - is there a particular blade or technique required?
Thank you. The saw Im using is an Evolution saw that comes with a multi blade - cuts wood, plastic and metal👍
You did not leave enough wood on the outside of your holes. That is why the part cracked. Drilling a 21 mm hole is not advised.
Hi, I am really enjoying your neat ideas for MFT type tables.
I plan to upgrade my worn out MDF table soon and have a concern re bench dogs in general and that is often I end up needing to put extreme pressure on the dogs so will then make the holes go out of shape which will then be no good for cutting exact cuts with a rail saw thus making one of the main the purposes of the table redundant, any thoughts?
Hi, that depends what will you make your top from. MDF will be more prone to loose shape when great pressure is applied. In those cases where you need to put a lot of pressure against your dos I would suggest using hardwood ply as the top. That will minimalise the damage and extend the life of the table top.
You could use a metal insert in the hole that the clamp sits in, maybe, same problem I'm having I've got kitchen worktop for my work bench thingy,

So far after few years not had any issues with it
What’s the reasoning behind when some one uses the sliding miter saw that they move it back and forth making shallow cuts, I was always taught it was to cut wide boards u can’t cut in a non moving saw? Please educate me
For me it seems that I get less tear out when I cut hardwoods. And when you make shalow cuts ypu are not putting that much prrassure on the saws motor. As I say mainly do it for hardwoods only as they are much desner and harder. But there might be other explanations to it.

Loving your ideas for DIY dogs. What happened to the dog collar video?
Well apparently in the UK there is a company that had that design of dogs covered as their design so I had to take it down. Who knew. It's a shame I believe people should have the option of getting a product from a store or be able to make a cheaper DIY version of it... It's all about choice. And my channel is about the cheaper spectrum of DIY.

How do you make your dogholes without a lot of tearout? You can't put it under your drill press and even when I use painters tape and forstner bits, it tears out badly.
I had a jig and you needed to use a router with it. I think going slow was the key👍

Will the aluminum bars eventually bend?
I don't think so, they are quite thick plus short. So far nothing happened with them

Why bother making your own bench dogs? Just buy them to use in your fully equipped workshop. I and am sure many other amateur woodworkers do not own of have access to the kind of equipment and working space your using.
That's what makers and Diyers do. Why make anything, you can go to IKEA and buy whatever you want. Why would you have a vegetable garden, you can go and buy vegetables. Whyy prepare your own food, you can go and buy ready meals.... the list goes on I hope you understand my answer now.
